So my electric rice cooker broke and I had to find a way to still make rice until I bought a new one. So I asked a few of my friends and they came through for me. I can now make white rice in a pan on the stove and don't need to buy a new electric rice cooker.
Here's how...
First you'll want to measure out how much rice you want to make. For every cup of uncooked rice, you need 2 cups of liquid.
I made 1 cup of rice because that's enough for just Ken and I. Pour your 1 cup of rice into a mesh strainer and rinse it. This is a really important part. if you don't do this your rice will be a thick mess instead of fluffy rice you want.
Next add your liquid to the non stick pan. You want to make sure you use a non stick pan because rice can stick to the bottom like crazy. I opted for a can of chicken broth to give my rice a chicken flavor. You can use water, beef or vegetable broth. Jut depends on the flavor you are looking for.
Next, bring the liquid almost to a boil and add the rinsed rice. Turn down to med low which for me on my stove is between medium and low. Stir it once and add a lid. Let it cook for 15-20 minutes and then check on it. Stir it and see how much liquid is left. There should be very little liquid left so let the rice cook for another 5-10 minutes until there's no liquid, turn off heat and then sit for 3-5 minutes with the lid on, this will let the rice cook the rest of the way.
It took me a couple of times cooking it this way to judge how long it would take to cook but the rice comes out perfect every time now.
