Apartment Life #61

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 20 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 20 years here in a weekly blog post.

2 years ago my water heater exploded *not really* and water leaked out over night all over the inside of the cabinet it was in, the kitchen floor and through the kitchen wall to our bedroom and all over carpet on my side of the bed. Everything on my side of the room that was on the floor got drenched and ruined. Thankfully it was just a few books and a nice pair of suede boots that were too high for me to walk in without falling down anyway. It was the weekend and we called the emergency number for the office and no one picked up and when Ken knocked on her door she refused to answer. So we soaked up as much as we could and put fans on the carpet to try and and dry it. It was in the middle of the summer so opening the bedroom window really helped dry it out in a couple of days.

Later that night though the bathtub, bathroom sink and kitchen sink backed up and smelly black water started filling the sinks and tub. The manager refused to answer her door or phone until Monday morning and when we asked about it she said she doesn't get paid to be on call on the weekends. So I guess too bad for us, huh?

The manager sent the maintenance man over who tried plunging the sinks and bathtub. He turned off the water until he could get a new water heater so we had no water. At this point it had been 2 days. 2 more days went by before we got a new water heater because they said they had to order one. And when they came to install it the maintenance man had no idea what the hell he was doing, so Ken asked the manager if he could install it with this guys help and she said yes since he used to be the maintenance man here years ago.

So Ken installed the new hot water heater with the help of the maintenance guy and then emptied the trap under the sink and fixed the kitchen sink. The plumber came out and snaked the bathroom tub and fixed the bathroom sink.

So after 4 days of not having running water in my kitchen, a stopped up sink and nasty black water that kept coming up in the sink that Ken had to keep bailing out, everything was finally fixed. Oh and don't mind my messy floor because on the day I took the picture I hadn't cleaned the mess since I didn't have running water yet. Falcor was right by Ken watching what he's doing over there. My kitchen sink got fixed! My bathroom sink was fixed! The new hot water heater is not leaking and we had hot water again!

I just think it's ridiculous that the manager refused to do anything on the weekends if something like this happened though. Just call a plumber and get that stuff fixed instead of leaving it for days. Thankfully we don't have that manager anymore.

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Apartment Life #60

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 20 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 20 years here in a weekly blog post.

This happened 2 years ago with a different apartment manager than we have now.

This overhang was supposedly fixed so the rain water wouldn't leak through the overhang and go on to the walk way, but as you can see, it was not fixed and the water was coming down heavy right there when it rained.

That night my manager calls at 11pm to see if Ken would look outside and see if the overhang was leaking and as you can see it was during the day so that night when it was really coming down it was leaking even worse.

The roof on my building and the one across from me was supposedly been patched and sealed after a crap roof job that cost $22,000 for both roofs. So at 11pm my apartment manager calls here and asks if Ken can go outside and see if the over hangs were leaking. O.o what? He was sleeping so she asked me to look outside and see if my overhang was leaking and of course it was because the roofers did a shit job. I still can't believe she called my apartment at 11 fricking pm instead of getting off her lazy lazy ass and going to look for herself like a manager should have done. She lived on property in the next courtyard! The water came right through the over hang on my side as well and right onto the walkway there as well. This didn't get fixed until the next summer. But at least it got fixed.

It was fun trying to walk around here when it rained, that's for sure.

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

I hadn't heard of either of these singers before hearing part of this song on a show I was watching. I had to find it and listen to the whole song. It's a beautiful song.

Review: Immortally Yours by Lynsay Sands

Book Description

One hundred and twenty-five years is a long time to nurse a crush. That’s how long it’s been since Beth Argenis first met Cullen “Scotty” MacDonald and he instantly became the star of her most X-rated dreams. Back then, he was rescuing her from a Rogue Immortal. Now Beth’s a Rogue Hunter—a damn good one. She doesn’t need saving anymore, despite what Scotty thinks. What she does need is the fierce, wild desire that finally erupts between them.

Scotty has hesitated to claim Beth as his own. But one explosive kiss confirms what he’s long suspected: She’s his life mate. But Beth is tough, fearless, beautiful…and in immortal danger. Unless he wants to lose her forever, he’ll have to rethink everything he once believed about love and destiny as well as confront an enemy who’s terrifyingly close.

My Review

Scotty is an 800 year old vampire and kinda still has some weird thoughts when it comes to things. The fact that on two separate occasions he wanted Beth's mind wiped because of the awful things she went through is a real testament to that. He's a Rogue Hunter and goes after other vampires that break the rules. He met Beth when he saved her from a Rogue and knew she was his mate but she needed time to get over everything she'd been through so he didn't claim her.

Beth on the other hand thought Scotty didn't like her since he was always standoffish and not very friendly but she couldn't stop fantasizing about him or dreaming about him. She had a very bad life as a mortal before she was forcibly turned into a vampire against her will. The story was tragic and awful. What she endured because of her father was heartbreaking.

It became very clear that there were other reasons Scotty wanted Beth's mind wiped and he didn't want to claim her as his lifemate. The fact that she had been a prostitute as a mortal was the biggest reason and it seemed like he just couldn't put her past behind him even though she had done just that. It wasn't until she had explained to him why she didn't want her mind wiped and that her life as a mortal made her who she is now, that he finally understood her reasoning and how wiping her mind would change her personality completely. Scotty was a great character and a good guy. He cares about Beth a lot and he shows it. Plus there's just something extra sexy about a man with a Scottish accent.

While they're trying to sort out their relationship, they're also trying to keep Beth safe from someone who wants her dead and keeps setting traps for her. It's a good thing they're immortal because some of the things that happen to them would surely have killed a normal human being.

While this was a good book in the Argeneau series and can be read as a standalone, it really didn't do much for the series itself. It was a fun read though.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Favorite Picture of the Week

At the beginning of the month when I went to put my tree up, I made a horrible discovery. All of my Christmas ornaments and lights were gone. I have no idea where the heck they went, the only conclusion we came up with is that they somehow accidentally got thrown away last year. I made a comment on FB that I was upset because I lost all my ornaments and unbeknownst some of my fb friends got together and sent me new ornaments.

As days went by, more and more ornaments showed up and some of them didn't come with a signed card so I didn't even know who all of them were from. I guess some people wanted to be a secret Santa, which is so sweet.

But I decided to put up my tree since I had so many new ornaments.

I have some of the sweetest friends and the fact that they sent me these ornaments means the world to me. How sweet was that? When Ken came out and saw all the ornaments on the tree, even he got a little emotional when he saw me get emotional over it. I can't thank everyone enough for what they did for me.

EDIT: More and more ornaments keep coming so I'm going to keep adding them to this post.

Review: Degusta Box Subscription box- December

DegustaBox is a monthly subscription box filled with food and drink products. The price for the box is $19.99 a month.

You do not get to pick any of the products you get, it's a surprise each month. But they say each box contains 10-15 items and each box is worth at least $30. I like trying boxes like this because they usually contain products that I've never tried or haven't seen before.

What was in this months box?

Garden of Life protein bar.
Hu Chocolate bar- mint and dark chocolate flavor.
Vandam Teas sampler.
G.H. Cretors popped corn- cheese and caramel flavor.
Dave's Gourmet hot sauce.
SunSpire dark chocolate candies.
Chef Paul Prudhomme's Magic Seasoning blends for poultry.
Bahlsen Iced Cinnamon Stars.
Campfire Marshmallows- 2 bags.
Chimes chewy ginger candies.

I love marshmallows. I actually already had a bag of marshmallows in my cabinet so I liked seeing those in the box. And I was excited when I saw the dark chocolate mint candy bar but when I took a bite of it...O.o it was so bitter. I ended up not liking that at all. I gave the protein bar to Ken because he likes those a lot more than I ever will. So he was happy about that.

The Dave's Gourmet hot sauce was too hot for me. But my daughter is always asking if I have hot sauce when she comes over for dinner, so I know she'll use it.

I used the poultry seasoning on some chicken and it was really good. The cinnamon stars cookies were delicious and so were the dark chocolate candies that had a hard candy shell on them. Kinda reminded me of a dark chocolate M&M.

The tea sampler was great. I do love trying new teas. The ginger chews had a good taste but a spicy bite to them. The popped corn bags were my favorite thing in this box. There were cheddar cheese and caramel popcorn in each bag. At first I thought it was weird to have both in the same bag but it turned out good.

If you don't live in the US, they have a Great Britain Website.

If this box looks like something you'd like and you live in the US, you can use code MARYK-ACB and get your first box half off. That's a big box of food for only $10! and you can cancel anytime. So if you're interested, go to the DegustaBox site and sign up and don't forget to use my code to get your first box for just $10.

Have you tried any of these products?

Apartment Life #59

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 20 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 20 years here in a weekly blog post.

A couple of years ago we called Elder Protection Services for the elderly neighbor who had severe dementia because she said the maintenance man was in her apartment at night and was stealing from her. She thought people lived in her closets and she said that a woman was in her apartment and wouldn't leave. So Ken went over there and she pointed at a pile of clothes on the ground and said there she is. Ken picked up the clothes and let her see that it wasn't a woman but she still didn't believe us. This went on for 2 days with her coming over and telling us that there were people in her closets and in the pile of clothes. But Elder protection Services said it would take at least 48 hours before they could get out here to talk to her and I didn't think this could wait. They told me that I could call to have her evaluated by the paramedics and they would ask her to voluntarily go to the hospital and if she does then people there could talk to her and do an evaluation.

We ended up calling the police and an ambulance to come do a welfare check on her when she started freaking out about the manager stealing her door keys which the manager didn't do. The apartment manager asked us to call and have her evaluated. I was a little surprised that the manager wouldn't call but she wouldn't.

She had to first agree to go to the hospital and have the people there talk to her. Since she did the paramedics said it's easier to make an evaluation on her once she's in the hospital. Her family abandoned her and the paramedics said that someone from elder protective services and someone from social services would come and talk to her while she is at the hospital. If they find she can no longer care for herself they can ask a judge to give them control over a person's health and well being and they can make her go to an assisted living home. The hospital cannot release a patient into what social services believe to be a dangerous situation for herself and if they determine that she can no longer care for herself they can go to a judge and obtain guardianship over her.

She had a cat and the manager asked Ken to look after it until we heard back from Elder Services or her family. 2 weeks went by and Elder Protection Services and Social Services came to the managers office with her brother to get in her apartment and get her stuff. She was moved to an elder assisted living facility and they came to get some of her personal belongings to take to her and everything else her brother took with him. Her brother used to live her with her so we knew him and he came over to say thanks for looking out for his sister and getting her some help. We didn't hear from them after that.

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

My Favorite NYX Products

You guys know that I like to share great products that I find and love. So I was recently looking at these NYX products on my makeup shelf and wondered why I hadn't shared these on my blog yet. I know that I don't do a lot of makeup reviews even though I absolutely love makeup and wear it everyday but when I find something I like, I usually share it. So today is the day...behold the power of NYX.

If you've never heard of this brand, I can say that I heard about NYX a few years ago when I went looking on Twitter for a good brand of makeup products that don't cost crazy amounts of money because I am not paying $50 or $80 for an eye shadow palette. Not gonna happen. I didn't need to though because NYX has several great small and larger palettes and they are so affordable. Plus their eye shadow goes on really nicely and stays put all day.

Then I tried the concealer stick that I didn't know I needed and loved it. I use light because I'm a pretty fair complexion and it works well with the foundation I use. It blends well and stays on all day.

The last two things I wanted to share were the Shine Killer makeup primer and the Matte Finish setting spray.

I've tried quite a few makeup primers and I like the ones that glide on and feel like a thin film of baby power on your skin. If you put this on under your foundation, it fills in the pores, wrinkles and makes your skin ready to add the foundation. Plus it helps the foundation stay in place and go on evenly. I love this stuff.

The Matte Finish finishing spray is a spray for your face after you've applied all your makeup. It sets the makeup in place and the matte finish helps keep you from shining from excess oils, longer than you would have without it.

I never used to use a makeup primer or finishing spray years ago until I received samples of them in the mail and loved them. Now I can't imagine not using them every day.

When I searched out this brand all the different articles and reviewers stated that this makeup will rival the more expensive brands in quality but with better prices. Now I don't know from experience if this stuff is as good as the really expensive makeup brands but everything I've tried has been great so I wanted to share it in case some of you were were looking to update your makeup bags.

Favorite Picture of the Week

My brother and sister in law moved out to Northern Nevada a few months ago and they adopted a goat. That's him on the rock. They also have a big dog and a cat. So they take the goat, dog and cat for a walk on their land. I found this funny and cute. The dog is the black spot on the right of the goat and the cat is the black spot on the left of the goat.

The goat found a rock to climb on and the cat is standing next to my sister in law.

He's a cute goat.

The dog is almost as big as the goat.

Review: Echoes of Fire by Suzanne Wright

Book Description

They may not be made for each other, but animal instincts are impossible to ignore.

Madisyn Drake is a rare breed of cat shifter…a loner, unpredictably wild, and emotionally distant. A recent betrayal has left her ready to sharpen her claws on the next man she sees…until a prowling wolf with steel-gray eyes and a brooding dark edge challenges her distrust. No matter how fully he satisfies her touch-hunger, Madisyn’s not ready to open up again, even if it is oh so gratifying.

Bracken Slater has earned his reputation as an indomitable predator. Once broken by grief and guilt, he is feeling alive again, thanks to the heady scent of this independent feline. Madisyn isn’t interested in joining an unfamiliar pack, so convincing her that they’re meant for each other is going to take more than branding her beautiful neck. But when threats from both their pasts take shape, their unexpected destiny may be the only thing that can save them.

My Review

This is book 4 in the Mercury Pack series and even though this can be read as a standalone, it would be better to read in order so you know all the characters.

Madisyn and Bracken meet after Madisyn beat the crap out of three shfters in the restroom. Madisyn is a Pallas Cat shifter, which are small, furry, cute but mean as hell... cats. She has an attitude and can definitely back up anything that comes out of her mouth. The owner of the club wants to know what started the fight but everyone is keeping quiet about it.

Bracken is called to come get Madisyn. He's known for being tough ever since his family was killed but he likes Madisyn. She also likes him but she doesn't let on since she has no idea how he feels. But when Bracken realizes that she's suffering from touch hunger, he gives her what she needs but in doing so he bites her and leaves his mark. He tells her that if she needs the touch of another to come to him, no other. His wolf is possessive but she doesn't understand why right away. Bracken's pack is great and for the most part they were all very welcoming to Madisyn and very happy for Bracken.

When danger comes calling from another pack, Bracken does what he can to make sure Madisyn is safe. His pack and the people from the shelter she works at even get involved because they can't let the alpha of the pack get what he wants. I really liked how everyone came together to help Madisyn even though she's completely able to take care of herself. She's one kick ass little cat.

I loved these two. They're both hurting for different reasons and when they come together, you can just tell they are made for one another and they help each other heal. I highly recommend this series.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Disclosure: I was sent this ebook free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review but all opinions are my own.

Apartment Life #58

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 20 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 20 years here in a weekly blog post.

This happened a little more than a week ago. My neighbor had been screaming at her 3 kids for over an hour because they wouldn't get ready for school and then they wouldn't get on their bike's and go to school. This is just the audio of the last bit or her screaming at one of the kids to go get the bike from the sidewalk that one of the other kids had left there. Apparently the older boy who is about 10 years old just walked off and left his bike on the side walk. The mother called the police and they came out as well as the truancy officer. One cop got in his car and went to look for the kid who he brought back to the apartment. The kid was crying and told the officers that the mom had hit him a few times because he wouldn't go to school and hit the other kids because they wouldn't go too.

You can clearly hear at least one of the kids in my audio saying, "oww, oww mommy." so she probably was hitting them but the officers didn't seem too worried about that. The older boy said he wasn't feeling well and that's why he didn't want to go to school that day. I couldn't hear everything but the mother and kids all went back in the apartment after the police and truancy officer left.
They kids never did go to school that day.

Then 2 nights ago from this same neighbor's apartment we hear this...

Neighbors yelling at each other. She was in the apartment and he was locked outside.

Him: Just gimme my ID and I'll go.
Her: No.
Him: Gimme me ID or I'm gonna kick the door in. 1,2,3 Bang! *He wasn't able to kick it in*
Her: No. Go away you ugly f*ck!
Him: Ugly? I'm fine. Fine! Look at this. *Points at his own body* I'm f*cking fine! You know you want this. *points at his crotch.
Her: Ha ha. No. Go away.
Him: Gimme my ID and I will or I'm gonna kick in the door in 3,2,1, Bang! *Second attempt and still couldn't kick it in*

He walked away. lmao

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Review: Daily Goodie Box- December

The Daily Goodie Box has been around since about July of 2016. I signed up for an account right after I heard about them. They are 100% free, you don't even have to pay for shipping. And for a free box it's a nice sampler box of products.

What did I get in this box?

The Grandpa Soap Co - Thylox Acne Treatment Soap- This is a bar of soap that is supposed to be good for acne prone skin. I get the occasional pimple so I will try this out next time I get one and see how it works. In the mean time I decided to wash my face with this for a few nights and see how my skin reacted. It's didn't break me out, it didn't dry my skin out and didn't case any redness so maybe it will keep my skin clear as well.

Organic OCHO Candy - Chocolate Covered Coconut Bars- It was just one piece of this candy and after I ate it I wanted more. I love coconut candy and this was so good. I would buy this for sure.

The Original MakeUp Eraser - Sample Pack- I actually signed up for this sample a few months ago so I was lucky enough to have already tried this out and I love it. This MakeUp Eraser is one of the most unique things I've ever tried. You just wet it and use it to take your makeup off. No soaps, no cold creams or makeup removers are necessary and it works so well. I could hardly believe it.

Hyalogic - Vitamin D3 Gummies- I love trying new gummy vitamins. I already take Vitamin D supplements because I have a deficiency so if I can find an easier way to take them, win win for me. These taste good and I'm taking them for the month to see how my blood tests look next month after taking these instead of the pills I usually take.

Sprig - CBD-Infused Soda- Unfortunately for me this did not have a good taste. I took a sip and let my husband take a sip and neither one of us liked the taste of this at all.

KiZE - Raw Energy Bars- I cut this is half because my husband usually likes these kinds of bars better than I do and I was right. Not my favorite thing but it wasn't awful, my husband liked it though.

Alcala San Diego - Deodorizing Body Wipes- These are big, strong wipes. They have a nice scent and get the job done. They would be good for just about anything.

Herbal Zap - Party Detox Herbal Supplement- I don't do a lot of 'partying' so this isn't something that I would use so I actually gave it to my daughter. She's all for taking an herbal supplement if I get samples of them in the mail.

Chocolat Frey® - Milk & Dark Crunchy Nuts Bars- This chocolate bar is so good! It was my favorite thing in the box! I love dark chocolate and peanuts and this was just yummy all the way around.

All they ask you to do is try the products and leave reviews for the products you got in order to be eligible for more Free Goodie Boxes. As you guys already know, I'm a fan of all these types of boxes. I love all the different subscription boxes and it's really nice to be able to try new to me products for free. This is a great box to try for.

Oh and one more thing, if you visit their FB Page, they give away Goodie Boxes to people who interact with their posts. So if you've tried before and weren't able to get a Goodie Box, there's even more ways to get one now.

I'm a fan of subscription boxes and love trying new products for free so this was a huge hit with me. New products+free box = Fabulous!

Have you signed up? Have you received one of these boxes?

Disclosure: This box was given to me for free in exchange for a blog review but all opinions are my own.
