Apartment Life #370

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 26 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 26 years here in a weekly blog post.

Some of the homeless people broke out this window in a vacant apartment and were squatting in it over the weekend. They were kicked out by maintenance on Monday and the window was replaced.

We had strong winds over the weekend and a couple more limbs broke and were hanging down off one of the trees across the street. Hopefully they cut them down before this breaks off and hits someone in the head.

The police were at the end of my street on Monday morning. They had a guy standing at the front of one of the police cars and later arrested him. For what, I have no idea.

I didn't post this last week because I wasn't sure if anything else was going to happen with it. But the guy that was squatting in front of my door last week and had been arrested a couple of times the week before was wheeling this wheelchair around and left it in front of my door. I pushed it out into the rocks. I'm pretty sure he stole it from one of the homeless people and I think they took it back later that night.

It's hard to see the police car in the middle of the picture but he's there. He has his headlights on and is parked between the yellow and red car, but across the street. Monday night around 9PM we heard about 8 gunshots. A few minutes later the police helicopter was flying overhead and then police were all over the place. They arrested one guy. Not sure if this is the same guy who keeps firing shots in the air at night or not.

This week I will leave you with a picture of Falcor stretching out his back leg. He still makes me laugh when he stands like this. He'll stand there with his leg stretched out for a few seconds before going about his business.

The high this week was 98F/36C
The low this week was 66F/18C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

  1. That's pretty low-down, stealing a wheelchair. They're not cheap and anybody who has one probably really needs it.

Maybe the leg-stretching is some kind of doggie yoga?

    1. I don't know where he got it from. It's crazy how many of them I see floating around here though.

  2. I like Falcor, cute photo of him stretching.
My dog Miney does those stretches too.
You do have an exciting neighborhood.
Take care, have a great day and happy week ahead.

  5. Hi, Mary!

I see that the mercury is steadily creeping up in your vicinity, dear friend. Next comes a long hot summer of triple digit discomfort for you, my buddy Falcor and the people of your community. I want to belatedly wish Falcor a happy birthday and many more.

There was a mixed bag of events in your neighborhood this past week, all of them unpleasant. Sorry to hear it. Most troubling are the case of the guy who stole the wheelchair from the handicapped person and the joker who likes to fire his gun at all hours. You shouldn't have to deal with unsavory characters like them.

I'm back with a new post at Shady's Place that is named after you and invite you to join the fun when you can. Have a safe and happy holiday, dear friend Mary!

    1. Thank you. Falcor got a new stuffed animal for his birthday. He had a good day. Hopefully the guy who fires his gun off at night is the one who was arrested.

Loved your post. I hope you have a nice holiday too.

  6. And here for a minute we thought you needed a wheelchair which would be awful. Hopefully the person who owns it actually got it back. Love seeing Falcor with his leg stretched. He's such a small dog but in that pose for that moment he looks like he's a golden retriever on the hunt for a duck.

    1. Hopefully the person got it back. I have no idea who it belonged to but it's gone now. He is s little dog and that pose just makes me laugh when he does it.

  7. It must get really expensive replacing windows all the time.

    1. When someone lives there and it's the tenants fault they are charged $80 for each window. No idea how much this place is actually charged.

  8. I should think it's a notable week when you don't hear gunshots. I suppose you get used to it, but it would scare me to death. 😟

    1. Right? I do get used to it but if you could see me squatting behind my dresser when I hear them, you might laugh. That dresser isn't going to save me if bullet comes through the wall.

  9. Falcor is funny! It’s been so windy here, too.

  10. Warm temperature and night time is warm to what we are used to even in summer down here.
Always something happening in your area.

  12. Pushing a wheelchair around for no obvious reason? There's plenty of weirdness in your neighbourhood!

    1. Anytime someone throws away something with wheels, anything with wheels, the homeless people snag it and use it to haul their stuff around in. There's a guy that hauls his stuff around in a little red wagon.

  14. How do the homeless known when a unit is vacant to break into? A good stretch now and then is invigorating. Falcor is doing it doggie style.

    1. Because they see them moving out. And then the management is stupid around here because when someone moves out, they leave all the lights on inside the apartment and leave all the blinds open so security can easily look inside the apartment while they come by late at night. The only problem is security doesn't come all the time and the homeless shut the blinds when they are in there. Most weekends they don't get bothered when they break in because no one comes by to check.

  16. It's funny (so to speak) how you had a couple of slow weeks a few months ago, and then everything escalated again on every front. At least you have Falcor making you smile (us, too. Love the pose LOL).

  17. Replacing windows is expensive and the tenant has to pay for it. That's insane.

    1. It's a vacant apartment so the management eats the cost of the broken window.

  24. Oh, 36C is crazy hot for May, unlike last year, t his year we are having a fresher May, thankfully, but I did have a very hot blue eyed hunk of a handy man come and deep clean my AC unit this morning to be ready for summer :) All kinds of nastiness came out of it as it did not have a deep cleaning in ten years or so LOL

  25. Stealing a wheelchair from a homeless person is about as low as you can go.
