This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 27 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 27 years here in a weekly blog post.
Life Update:
My daughter ended up in the ER last week because the pain got so bad. They gave her something for the pain and she was alright for a couple of days. Sorry I haven't been coming around your blogs much. I pulled a muscle in my back, pinched a nerve also and have lightning nerve pain shooting down the back of my leg when I walk. I've have to use one of my crutches to walk outside to let the dog potty. I've been in a lot of pain the last week and couldn't sit at my computer desk for very long. Hopefully it gets better soon. That's why this post was late in getting published today.

I've talked quite a bit about the homeless people in my area. I know not all of the homeless are drug addicts, thieves or out for nefarious purposes. I am friendly with most of the homeless people in my area. Some of these people have been homeless around here for many years and I've talked to them for a long time.
Not to mention all the veterans and others with PTSD or similar disorders that just want to hunker down on a little piece of property in their tents and be left alone. The world is too big a place, too loud and too disorienting. I feel for all of them.
There are homeless shelters but a lot of them don't want to go to them because they can't do their drugs there.
But there has been an influx of homeless people since the RV's have settled around here. The picture above is of a makeshift tent one new homeless guy made for about a week. he used wood, metal and a sheet to make himself a tent. I have no problem with the homeless, I feel bad for them. The problem I have is the mess they leave behind.
When the guy who made the makeshift tent, left. He left behind all of his mess. There's a trash dumpster not 40 feet from where he left this stuff.
And then there's this. The Water Authority boxes that the homeless like to sleep or set up camp next to for a few days. They tore the door off one of the boxes again this week and left a mess.
Those water bottles aren't filled with water, it's urine.
And then there was this uncapped syringe on the sidewalk near the mess. This is not the first syringe that I've seen laying around where the homeless camp out. This is what makes me mad.
A lot of these people do have drug issues and drugs are easier to get than keeping a place to live.
---
I walk the dog a lot. This bullet was laying in the rocks near the sidewalk, in front of the apartment office one morning. It wasn't there the day before, I would have seen it.
Did someone put it there on purpose?
Was someone loading their gun?
Did it fall out of a pants pocket?
Will we hear gunshots tonight?
These and other questions "might" be answered on the next episode of, "As the apartment burns!"
I now give you back to your regularly scheduled programming. 🤪🤪🔫
Hey, at least they didn't set the dumpster on fire this week.
The high this week was 98F/36C
The low this week was 66F/18C
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Dear Mary, bless your heart! My goodness, imagine finding a bullet like that! Stay safe, dear friend.
ReplyDeleteI've found other bullets around here in the past too.
DeleteI am sorry for all the pain you and your daughter are suffering. Your daughter, in particular, can't seem to get the proper medical care she needs. Re your homeless discussion: I don't know if you heard about the five teens who beat & ended up killing a homeless man in my area of New York State about 10 days ago It was in walking distance of where I used to work before Covid. One of the group was 13, two 14, and two 15. Needless to say it's horrified everyone I know. The victim was only, I think, 45. The boys did it for kicks and to brag about on social media.. His mother has been interviewed about the life of her late son and why he turned to the homeless life. Drugs were a part of it. We can't imagine the dangers the homeless face every day. ReplyDeleteThank you. I didn't hear about that. Awful.
DeleteI always love these posts. You're right, the homeless situation is a hard one and as a society we certainly don't have the solution or help for it. But the messes they leave behind are what I don't like either. And I'm SO sorry you're having pain issues. My wish is for a better week for both you and your daughter!
ReplyDeleteThank you. The solution is not easy, especially when they don't want the help.
DeleteI can understand you having less time for the blogosphere. You have a hell of a lot to deal with. There's no reason for the internet to be a priority.
ReplyDeleteIt's disgraceful that we have veterans living in tents, even if some of them have mental problems.
Thank you. It really is. There really should be more help for those that want it and there just isn't.
DeleteWishing less pain for both you and your daughter this week!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteLiving with chronic pain is awful. We have to take time to rest and recuperate when things flare up, and it takes longer than it does for people whose bodies aren't constantly working on healing. Visit other blogs and catch up when you're feeling up to it. I hope they can find some answers and assistance for your daughter, too. Seeing our kids hurt is worse than anything.
ReplyDeleteThe mess from the homeless people is the thing I hate, too. I don't have a lot of it in my immediate vicinity, but within a mile of my house there are several different camps.
I wish I had a huge pile of money and could give some actual help to people who need it!
I hate seeing my daughter in pain. I would do the same as you if I had the millions that some of these celebrities have.
DeleteI hope you heal up sooner rather than later. Ouch. Yeah, the homeless just have no sense of taking care of their surroundings as they are not really *their* surroundings. Sad.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting there. Still hurts a lot but at least the shooting nerve pain is better. There's no easy solution.
DeleteI hope your sciatica eases soon, and also that your daughter can get proper, lasting help for her problems. Being homeless is horrible, but some choose it.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I wish there was more help for those homeless that want it.
DeleteHope you both feel better soon Mary. Sending you both love and hugs x
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteHope you both start feeling better very soon.
ReplyDeleteSending healing thoughts across the miles.
All the best Jan
Thank you.
DeleteI’m so sorry about the pain issues. Hope you and your daughter get relief soonest!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteMy goodness, that's quite a mess they've made. I hope you and your daughter are both on the mend super soon. Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteIt sounds like you and your daughter can't catch a health break! Hope things settle down for both of you soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm constantly hurting myself, pulling a muscle whatever. lol My daughter is feeling a bit better.
DeleteSorry about you and your daughter's latest health issues hope things improve soon
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteThat is not good regarding your daughter or yourself, I do hope all improves quickly. Heath is a great thing to have if possible, Mary.
ReplyDeleteThe homeless, gosh so much mess, it's a wonder the authorities don't do something about that mess, it's such a shame that the homeless are too lazy to clean up after themselves but if they are stoned they wouldn't care.
I was thinking what if a child came along and picked up the syringe, the mind boggles.
Have a good week if you can.
Thank you. The police won't do anything.
DeleteIt is no fun living close to hell mouth
ReplyDeletelmao That's the truth.
DeleteThat actually sounds like a strong blog concept because it’s anchored in something you know deeply and can sustain over time. Twenty-seven years in one place gives you continuity, recurring characters, and evolving “episodes,” which is exactly what keeps readers coming back.
ReplyDeleteThe “Apartment Hell Life” framing also works because it sets a tone immediately — readers know they’re getting real-life chaos, humor, and observation rather than polished fiction. That kind of grounded storytelling often feels more relatable than a book precisely because it’s episodic and ongoing.
If you keep it consistent, the key will be structure: each post works best when it centers on one incident or theme, with a clear setup and payoff. That helps turn everyday chaos into something readable rather than just a list of events.

Thank you so much. I appreciate that.
DeleteIf only one thing happened each week, I would do that. But there are usually multiple things that happen around here each week so I post it all.
I keep hoping good health to both of you!!! yikes on the bullet, stay safe too.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteThe plight of the homeless and the ensuing mess are both dispiriting.
ReplyDeleteYes they are.
DeleteYou and your daughter can't catch a break with all these medical issues and pain. I hope things start improving for both of you. And I'm sorry you have to look at those messes when you just want to take Falcor outdoors.
ReplyDeleteI'm always hurting myself somehow.
DeleteAt least the nurses didn't accuse your daughter to be a junkie or mock her pain this time...or so I assume, since you didn't mention it. I'm sorry both of you are having it so bad. I hope you can get some respite.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad that there are so many homeless people around, and I get what you're saying - but those that do drugs should stop and seek help maybe, go to a shelter...(I also wonder where they find drug money). And the urban decorum problem is real. One can't very well go outside and have all that mess right under their nose.
LOL, I'm all sat for the next installment in your bullet story! Seriously though, since it was right in front of the office, maybe it was someone's idea of a prank...or an intimidation?😱
No, they didn't but they weren't much help either.
DeleteThey find drug money from stealing from stores and selling to people around here.
No idea about the bullet. Someone was probably loading their weapon and dropped it.
It is so easy to fall into this pit of despair, homelessness, etc.
ReplyDeleteWe have a counsellor in Ottawa trying to put in public washrooms for the homeless.
They need all the help they can get
DeleteHomelessness has so many causes and issues that resist simple solutions. I'm glad you can remain on friendly terms with most. I hope you and your daughter's pain goes away.
ReplyDeleteMost are nice to you if you're nice to them. Thank you.
DeleteThat's what would annoy me too, the homeless folk leaving all their rubbish behind. As you say, there's a handy trash dumpster not far away so why not use it?
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the medical issues and the pain. I hope something can be done to alleviate them.
Thank you.
DeleteI agree with all your thoughts on the homeless! It's a tough situation, they're in a tough situation but leaving messes and endangering others isn't right either. I hope you and your daughter feel better!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteOh Mary!! I'm so sorry you and your daughter are in so much pain. I hope that you both are recovering and find some peace soon. Thank you for your words about homelessness. So often people assume the worst of these people.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteI am of opinion that at this opinion we should just replace our bodies with robotic ones and just keep the brain as our old bodies are just getting too decrepit and they won't be getting any better, I can tell you ....
ReplyDeleteOh, I would go for that right now. I'm tired of hurting myself while sleeping.
DeleteA coworker pulled something and now she is home again, so yes it must be so painful
ReplyDeleteI just turned over in bed and hurt my back.
DeleteHope you snd your daughter feel better. I like the way you ended this post, seem like a newscast. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm glad you liked that.
