Let me start off by saying I am really sick of all the PC BS (politically correct bull sh*t). I don't rant very often but this has been bothering me so if you aren't ready for a rant that's going to piss a few people off...don't read beyond this point.
I heard the other day on tv that a woman lost her brother and because he was a cop..he was a hero. I felt bad that she lost her brother, I really do but just because he was a cop..he was a hero? really? I don't think so.
I hear it all the time.
Cops are heroes.
Firefighters are heroes.
Soldiers are heroes.
I don't think so. First of all these people volunteer to do these jobs, they sign up, they get trained and they get paid...to do a job. Yes, it might be a more dangerous job but it's a job.
To me a real hero is someone who has no training, doesn't get paid to do it and it isn't there job but they put their own lives on the line to do something for someone else. Like the lady who knows there's a family in the apartment across the street and she goes in the apartment and pulls out an unconscious person from the burning building. She is a hero. She didn't have safety gear on, she wasn't trained to do this, she wasn't getting paid to do her job, she didn't volunteer to take care of situations like this..she did it because she knew if she didn't no one else was going to be able to do it in time to save that person.
So think about that the next time someone calls another person a hero. Were they really a hero...or were they just getting paid to do a job they were trained for and new was dangerous.

ReplyDeleteDefine True Hero? What makes a hero a true hero?
ReplyDeleteWhat is your definition of a true hero?Define True Hero? What makes a hero a true hero?
If you ask me, heroes are those who are willing to sacrifice and want nothing in return (maybe just gratitude)Define True Hero? What makes a hero a true hero?
A real life person who makes a difference in other people's lives. Police men, teachers, doctors, lawyers, fire men and the like are true heroes. They get out of bed every single day in order to make a difference by saving people's lives and helping them to become better people.
A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. - Christopher Reeve
that pretty much sums it up exactly to me. everyone can make a difference.
anyone who is willing to risk their life to better lives of others. Heroes don't run from the fire they run toward it.
examples: police, firefighters, EMS, and anyone in the armed forces.
My def. of hero is someone who puts someone else or a group of other people first for a cause.
(Military, fireman, police officers)
Being selfless and altruistic.
A modern hero: Audie Murphy (Medal of Honor Recipient)
someone who sacrifices something good, for something or someone better
Someone who can take on crap because no one else will. Like Bruce Willis in the Die Hard series.
they're dead and exploited by others
someone with a genuine desire to help without thinking of reward, fame or his own welfare
Bullet proof. Otherwise they would have died a long time ago.
A Martyr.
A true hero
is someone who is willing to give their life to save someone else, someone whom you can admire and aspire to be.

Why people copy and paste vast amounts of information all over the internet and use that as a comment, is something I will never understand.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, you are entitled to your opinion as am I.
Mary, I have to agree with you. I think a lot of people feel this way but are afraid to say so openly the way you did because of the backlash...just like you got from the weirdo posting and deleting several times here today.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how these people want to pat themselves on the back and call themselves heroes, when all they did was their job...a job they were trained to do no less.
Thank you for this post.
Thank you Ashlyn, I appreciate that.
ReplyDeleteI think a person is a hero based on their heroic deeds and not their titles. End of story. In my opinion. ;-)
