Because Easter is coming up next month and a lot of kids will be getting stuffed animals, I thought this would be an appropriate time for this blog post. When my daughter was little, she had an obsession passion for all thing ducks. When she was just a couple of year old she was given her first stuffed duck and she carried it around for a couple of years. It started getting really dirty and even though I washed it and sewed it back together I don't even remember how many times, she loved it. But once it was no longer going to stand up to another round in the washing machine and it started smelling like something that just came out of the garbage dump, we knew we were going to have to do something.
So we made it a game. The new duck game. We bought her a new duck at easter and told her that the old duck had to go in a box that we would put in the closet. And believe it or not, she went for that. I guess she liked the idea of a new duck surprise. It got to be the 'thing' we did every year at Easter. We would go looking for just the right duck to replace the old one with and we put the old one in the dirty duck box. When my daughter turned 21, I gave her that box of dirty ducks and she thought it was the coolest thing.
You could always tell which one was her favorite because it was the dirtiest one. lol That little one in the right front corner was her favorite that year. This was her duck collection. Like I said, she loved her ducks.
She even got me in on her duck shenanigans.
Everyone knew to give her some sort of duck for easter so she had a lot of them. She even got a duck umbrella one year. It was so cute.
She thought it was hilarious to pile them on me and takes pictures.
Romi, our first rat even got to play with the ducks.
Di you have a special stuffed animal, does your child?
This is so cool! I love that you kept all the ducks for her!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool, Mary. The dirty duck box. I love it. I don't remember ever having soft toys as a kid, but hubby bought me a stuffed mouse with a tartan hat. I called it Jock and he sits on our bed head. One day I was in the kitchen doing something, and I looked up and the puppy was playing with Jock. She had him in her mouth and was running around the lawn. I rescued him and he was just a bit damp. She managed to grab him a couple of times and always took him outside to play. She hasn't done it for a while so must have grown out of her fascination with soft toys!
ReplyDeleteNot sure I took one over the other, i was more of a rip them apart kid lol
ReplyDeleteI got my grandson a Noddy, and he loves it. She does have a lot of ducks, which is cute. Kids soon grow up, eh! The years are flying by with my grandchildren! Have a lovely week.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Love love, Andrew. Bye.
That is such a sweet tradition! My little boy loves giraffes so he has several stuffed ones, though one in particular is his favorite.
ReplyDeleteKatrin- Thank you. She really liked it too.
ReplyDeleteShelley- aww you're poor puppy needs his own stuffie.
Pat- I did that with all my dolls.
Andrew- They do grow up real fast. I bought my grandson a cute stuffed lamb for Easter coming up.
Amy- Thank you. I think all kids like stuffed animals.
Ducks. I love it. My daughter loved stuffed animals. Wasn't a real doll fan but always had a stuffed animal. She did have a duck that wore a raincoat. It was pretty cute:)
ReplyDeleteoh, that is precious.
ReplyDeletei received a stuffed cow one christmas from my oldest sister and her husband. i still have it. :)
Oh that is too sweet. I had a few that were my go to stuffed animals. A bear from a family friend, and elephant I was given when I was born (and still have) and then a hippo that was my grand dads I think and gave it to me and he started to fall apart. My mom threw him away without me knowing. And 20 years later when we have a tiff. Yep. That still gets brought up because omg! my poor baby! lol
ReplyDeleteSandra- I love those ducks with raincoats.
ReplyDeleteTexWisGirl- Thanks. The cow sounds cute.
Anna- that is too funny.
My son got tons of stuffed animals when he was a baby (Being the first grandbaby he was pretty spoiled!)
ReplyDeleteBUT his favorite was a green rabbit that, I'm pretty sure, was from the dollar store. LOL.
He dragged that thing around everywhere. Unfortunately it got lost at my mother-in-law's house when he was four and it was a TRAGEDY! OMG it was a terrible couple of weeks filled with tantrums.
Funny thing is my MIL was redoing her guest bedroom last year and found it squished behind the headboard of the bed. He's got it back now, but at eight I guess Green Bunny had lost his magic :(
He now has a permanent home on my son's dresser
Cute!
