I use to use this as a bagged rat food for all of my rats until I found Oxbow Regal Rat Food. I switched because studies have shown that dried corn is bad for rats and can even cause cancer and this rat food has dried corn in it. Now I will say that I still use this rat food as a treat for my rats because they like the pumpkin and sunflower seeds as well as some of the other bits, but I pick out all of the dried corn before I give it to them.
Rats like a variety of foods in their diet and I've had rats live to be 4 years old feeding them the mixture of foods and treats that I feed them. I would not recommend feeding this exclusively as a rat food, only as a treat and only if you pick the dried corn out of it.
Dried corn is bad for anyone now, corn in most any way with all the gmo crap
ReplyDeleteI did the same with my mouse girls. I gave them a nice daily food then used a mix like that as treats.
ReplyDeleteIf dried corn causes cancer in rats, does that mean it can cause cancer in US? Is there something in corn in general causing cancer or is it the drying process?
ReplyDeletepat- I've been hearing that pretty much all corn we consume now has been fiddled with in some way. It's kinda scary.
ReplyDeleteAnna- Yep, since they love a variety of foods I have to be quick on my toes. lol
Stephanie- During the drying process some of the corn has a small pocket in the middle that doesn't dry all the way and can produce mold that can cause cancer in rats.
That's interesting about the corn. I wish scientists would stop messing with our food.
ReplyDeleteI wish people would stop messing around with mother nature period!! No good can come of it! We are gonna be the ones that eventually will end up killing off our owners. It's hard to know what is safe to eat these days, if anything at all!
