Last year I saw on FB this meme that showed how to cook corn on the cob in the microwave and be able to slide the husk off along with all those silky hairs that love to cling to the corn and get stuck in your teeth. lol
Step 1...buy some corn on the cob
Step 2...cut the end off high enough so that the husk isn't attached to the end.
Step 3...microwave each stalk for 2 minutes. If cooking 2 stalks microwave for 4 minutes. Only cook 2 stalks at a time.
Step 4...let cool for 5 minutes and then squeeze the closed end, pushing the corn out the open end you cut off.
Keep squeezing until corn is free.
Step 5...eat.
There was only one silky hair attached to this ear of corn and the other one was the same. The clean up is so much easier and the cooking time is so much faster. And it tastes really good, just as if you boiled it for 30 minutes but with out the scalding hold water.
I cooked a small ear for Flower and cut it into 4 small pieces. I let them cool, gave her one and put the others in a zip lock baggie for later. It takes her a day to eat one piece. But I only give her one every couple of days. The pieces can also be frozen and thawed out later.
I took a small piece of corn and held it up to her window. Hey, she worked hard on these windows. lol
She stuck her head out the window and grabbed the corn...
and away it went...
Flower is quick! I always cook our corn on the cob this way. It's so fast and easy.
ReplyDeleteIt's the easiest way to do it. I'm so glad I found this way. Flower is fast and she loves corn.
DeleteLol on the last picture!
ReplyDeleteI've never microwaved corn. I've actually wanted to try roasting it in the oven.
Roasting it in the oven sounds good too. Flower is so funny.
DeleteShe sure chowed down on that
ReplyDeleteShe did, she loves corn.
Deletefunny how quick she took it
ReplyDeleteShe's fast.
DeleteThanks for this awesome tip. I'm always struggling with trying to remove those strands.
ReplyDeleteI hope this is easier for you. I hate those strands and this really works.
DeleteClever and you shared with Flower...such a sweet mom!
ReplyDeleteShe's so cute, I have to share with her.
DeleteThanks for sharing your trick. I'll have to try it.
ReplyDeleteAh, cute Flower was quick of the draw.
Hope it works for you as well as it does for me. Flower sure liked it.
DeleteOMG Flower is so cute! <3 <3 I am glad this worked for you. Apparently mom tried this and the fam didn't like it microwaved but I have yet to try it for myself. But I definitely will be giving it a go one day. First step: Buy corn on the cob!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I just did it and didn't tell hubby the first time. He didn't even notice the difference.
DeleteLOL she's so cute with the corn! I've done this too. I go back and forth between microwave and stove top since they're really about the same amount of time cooking/cooling. I never boil mine for 30 minutes. Maybe 10 at most.
ReplyDeleteFlower loves everything. I'm so glad I found this way. So much easier to remove those silky hairs.
DeleteI never realized you could microwave corn, it almost sounds too good to be true, especially with how I usually boil it for like 30 minutes. This sure spares time. And Flower looks adorable with her corn, rats sure love their corn!
