This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 20 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 20 years here in a weekly blog post.
I took a picture from my bedroom window when 4 cop cars showed up on Monday evening. I actually was the one that called the police this time because some girl came onto our street accusing some guy across the street of hitting her car. I guess she followed him home from where he ran into her car. She was yelling and screaming at him and I thought that would be the end of it but then he ran to his apartment and got what I thought was a shotgun but Ken said it was an assault rifle. This crazy woman pulls a gun out of her purse and they're standing there not pointing the guns at each other but still holding them while shouting. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
That's all I saw because I got the hell out of my bedroom window in case bullets started flying and called 911. The police were here in a couple of minutes but by then the woman was already gone and they guy with the rifle had run away. I don't know where he hid his rifle but I didn't see anyone get arrested. But now I know that guy has a weapon over there, so if I see him run in his apartment again, I'm ducking...just in case.
Oh and in case anyone was wondering the rocks finally got painted the rest of the way.
They're all black now. Still looks dumb to have black rocks but at least the entire rock is painted now.
Oh and for anyone on FB or Twitter who has seen me talk about the new apartment fee schedule and having to pay rent on the 1st with no grace period and that making my local news because of elderly and disabled people being on Social Security and not getting their checks until the 3rd...well because they got so many complaints about it they changed it back so that everyone can still pay their rent on the 3rd with no late payment fees. People were calling corporate, sending written letters to management, calling the news stations, calling lawyers and commenting about it all over social media. They finally gave in so I'm really happy about that. Here's the News Story if anyone is interested in what it was about.
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.
I am glad that the bullets didn't start flying.
ReplyDeleteThe rocks look bizarre - even fully painted.
Hooray for finally caving in on the rental issue. Bad publicity sometimes does the trick.
They were getting a lot of pressure so I'm glad they gave in.
DeleteYeah, I'd be ducking too. Nutballs.
ReplyDeleteGuess social media has its advantages indeed.
I was really surprised the bullets didn't start flying. Social media has it's advantages.
DeleteI think the police should just rent an apartment in your building and set up a mini-police-station in it. They seem to be there all the time anyway.
ReplyDeleteThose rocks now look like the fake rocks used on sets representing alien planets in old el-cheapo science fiction TV shows. I can't imagine what was the point of painting them. Their original color was fine, and over time that paint is going to start wearing off and give them a kind of patchy look.
Hubby told one cop months ago that if they wanted to come by for coffee anytime and sit and watch they could. LOL
DeleteThe rocks are crazy ridiculous looking.
Yes, those rocks look much better now! LOL!
ReplyDeleteScary situation with the gun toting lunatics, esp. in light of this weekend. Honestly, it's not safe to live anywhere or leave your own house anymore. I'm scared for our grandchildren, Mary.
I know. My daughter moved into her place a few months ago and she's already had someone try to get into her apartment. She had to call the police. Anywhere it seems is dangerous.
DeleteIdiots can be pretty scary, with or without guns.
ReplyDeleteVery true.
DeleteI always say to myself that America, unlike my tiny country, is a big, vast place - one can move easily to another town, another appartment. It seems, however, from your story, that even in America it's not easy to escape from one place and move to a better one.
ReplyDeleteIt's not. Rent is really high here and I haven't found another apartment that has the cheap rent like our apartment complex. But my daughter just moved less than a yer ago to her new apartment and she's had the police there several times. One guy tried to break into her apartment. It's not easy to find a nice apartment, that's in a crime free neighborhood. Crime is everywhere.
DeleteCrazy!
ReplyDeleteGlad you got it changed back to the third.
I am too.
DeleteWow, that woman pulling a gun from her purse is never a good sign. I'm not one for the conceal and carry law-I feel like if you've been given the permission to carry a gun-the more violence will ensue thereafter.
ReplyDeleteYou're tremendously brave to report on all this-Gives me a lot of inspiration and courage.
DeleteThank you but I'm just reporting what I'm seeing. I doubt either one of those people had a license to carry the guns they had.
DeleteWhat on earth does this guy need an assault rifle for? I mean, this is an urban domestic setting not an actual war zone!! I just don't understand the whole gun thing :-(
ReplyDeleteI have no idea but he sure took off and hid it before the police got here so I doubt he has a license to have a gun or rifle.
DeleteIt's sad that people have to turn to social media to make shitty other people do the morally decent thing.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad no one shot anyone else on this occasion, too.
It really is. They were getting a lot of letters and phone calls to. I'm glad the bullets didn't stat flying either.
DeleteAn assault rifle?? Geez. That's scary, Mary. I hate that the police didn't catch them before they took off.
ReplyDeleteLindsi @ Do You Dog-ear? 💬
Yeah it was crazy. I doubt it will be the last time.
DeleteAt least the rocks look better now.
ReplyDeleteYeah at least they're completely painted.
DeleteI like the way the rocks look now. And scary about the neighbors!
ReplyDeleteThey look better than the half painted mess they had been that's for sure.
DeleteGlad all the complaining made the difference. As we all know, people can be crazy with guns.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day!
I am too. People can be so crazy with guns, it's sad.
DeleteDuck and stay low to the floor! God, be safe! The rocks look better now than when they were halfway done but they shouldn't have been painted in the first place.
ReplyDeleteWe've only had bullets fly once around January 1st. Thankfully they didn't this time. Yeah the painted rocks still look dumb. lol
DeleteI so thankful our neighborhood is boring.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on
Maybe ours will be soon.
DeleteHow scary! Glad it got sorted out. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I'm glad it didn't get bad.
DeleteI am glad they changed the date
ReplyDeleteI am too.
DeleteWow! People pulling guns at each other. That girl must have been crazy to follow a guy home and yell at him. Then to pull a gun on each other? They must have been out of their minds!
ReplyDeleteI would think so. It was so nuts I couldn't believe it.
DeleteSounds like your neighborhood is a magnet for loonies.
ReplyDeleteGlad the date was changed so those on SS won't be penalized!
I'm glad too.
