This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 20 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 20 years here in a weekly blog post.
You might remember I told you guys about the homeless tent that was set up right outside my courtyard a few of weeks ago. Well they did finally move down the street. They set up their "tent" about a block down the street in between some power boxes. They had 5 people sleeping there for about a week. The police got called out a couple of times but all they did was make them pack their stuff up and move on. They were back that night.
Then the other day a few of the homeless moved about a half a block further down the street and one day while I was out walking Falcor I saw 2 motorcycle cops that were on motor bikes talking to one of the homeless guys that had a sleeping bag out in the rocks. I took the picture from a block and a half away that's why the picture is so small. If you click on the picture it will enlarge it a little. The police drove away after a few minutes and the homeless people are still setting up their tent way down the street. So at least I can walk Falcor without being harassed for a while. A lot of them still come to the drug apartment in my courtyard. I think if the manager evicted them, the homeless would move on somewhere else. I feel bad for them and just found out that my city is building new housing for the homeless which will house around 800 people. They are also getting more help that they can sign up for but I think the ones that are addicted to drugs like some of the ones around here don't usually partake of any of those services so the only thing we can do is get rid of the drug dealers here and hope they move on somewhere else.

The other morning around 5am we got woke up to someone screaming outside. We got up and heard yelling coming from my courtyard in one of the apartments. A door slammed and it sounded like people were arguing. So I got up, got dressed to take Falcor out. Ken calls me in the bedroom because the ambulance pulls up outside on the street. Of course my camera won't take pictures at night without being 100% blurry so all you get to see are bright lights. But it's an ambulance with its lights on. They stayed for a few minutes and left. No one went to the hospital. I didn't hear any more arguing.
One of these days I'll figure out how to take pictures at night without it being blurry. lol
So that's it for this week's Apartment
I don't think I could live with that much excitement - and if you find out how to take pictures at night which aren't blurry please let me know.
ReplyDeleteIf I find out, I'll let you know.
DeleteNice pics, very interesting post!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteNever a dull moment, Marvelous Mary. I love that they're building new spots for the homeless, and agree that as long as there are drugs around from the dealers, that's where quite a few of the people who are addicted will hang out, instead of trying to be in a safe environment. Please be safe. Hugs, RO
ReplyDeleteI agree. It's sad but the drugs just ruin their lives.
DeleteHopefully the drug dealers will move on when it gets built, or the 800 will get off them that go there, but that's doubtful. Sure never need an alarm in your place.
ReplyDeleteI hope they get evicted. I'm sick of the traffic at their apartment. It's nonstop all day and night.
DeleteShame they don't kick out the druggies from the apartment. At least those who are homeless who want help will get some.
ReplyDeleteYou need one of the latest smart phones to get night shots that aren't blurry.
I don't even know how many times I've complained about that apartment and nothing has been done.
DeleteThat is quite a tent structure! I hope the new housing helps those who want it.
ReplyDeleteYeah it is. They had several people staying in it. I hope so too.
DeleteWow, this is really something. People say that developed countries don't know about poverty, but we really do. Poverty is even worse the US in a lot of ways, because temperatures reach down below zero or above 100 ferenheit.
ReplyDeleteI see poverty all over the place where I live. Seems like the cheapest apartments have the people that need the help the most but there's not a lot of help out there to get.
DeleteThe drug crowd really need to be moved on so the homeless will also go. It's crazy that you have to put up with all of this!
ReplyDeleteI keep complaining but the manager hasn't kicked them out yet.
DeleteI hope you'll stay safe
ReplyDeleteI do try.
DeleteWe had a homeless man living behind our house and I was so worried he'd freeze out there. I tried to get him help he didn't want it. Nice post the week.
ReplyDeleteA lot of them don't want help which is sad.
DeleteI hope the housing will help people. It's so hard to give help to people who really don't want it (or at least don't want the type of help that's being given). I feel for people who are addicted to drugs, but it's hard to know what can be done for them.
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
That's very true.
DeleteThe police should have a firmer hand with the drug dealers and consummers. The homeless present a separate problem which could be dealt with by the social services.
ReplyDeleteYou would think they would but they really don't.
DeleteScreaming at 5am would scare me right out of bed. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteIt happens so often I wear foam ear plugs now.
DeleteThat's far too early to be blaring sirens and flashing lights!! I'd have been out of sorts all day if they'd woken me up before dawn!
ReplyDeleteFalcor usually gets me up at 6am so it wasn't too early for me.
DeleteThe homeless situation is incredibly sad. I am glad that there is going to be more help but so many people have other issues like drug addiction and mental illness. Never a dull moment in your neighborhood!
ReplyDeleteThere definitely needs t be more mental illness help than there is.
DeleteAlways tricky to find a solution to the homeless problem that benefits everyone.
ReplyDeleteThat's very true.
DeleteThey really do need to clean out the drug dealers, maybe things would improve some.
ReplyDeleteI keep hoping they will.
DeleteI remember getting my first real camera. I tried to take a picture of the moon, damn that shit was impossible.
ReplyDeleteYes! I've tried too and it is impossible.
DeleteNever a dull moment! Hopefully they can get those drug people outta there.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping.
DeleteI hope management will get smart and evict the drug dealers. Hopefully the new housing will help with some of the homeless problem there. I know our mayor is hoping his housing project will have that effect, along with job services and drug treatment programs. It's been tried before and I only hope that something about these new programs will work better than previous ones. . .
ReplyDeleteI am hoping that as well.
DeleteHere in North Idaho it would be pretty rough living in tent condition, during the winter.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on
Yeah I can imagine.
DeleteIt seems like the homeless situation is just growing. It's really sad, and I agree, the ones who apply to the programs available to help are not the problem. It's the ones that are on the street because of lifelong issues like drugs. They usually don't want to abide by the rules of the programs out there and so they continue to wreck havoc on the neighborhoods where they camp out. Hope they move out of yours.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I hope they move on too.
DeleteAs Carole says, a huge number of homeless people have addiction or mental health problems. There should be a lot more specialist help available. The police moving them on elsewhere is no solution.
ReplyDeleteAnd they don't want the help that is available. I just don't want them around here causing problems.
DeleteGlad to hear they're building something for the homeless! 800 is a lot of people! I feel so bad for the ones that are actually down on their luck. Now the drag addicts on the other hand...
ReplyDeleteHopefully it will be enough to help the ones who actually want the help.
DeleteMan, I don't know how you get any rest. I work for a non-profit and it's sad because I've seen people get enough benefits that they could live on (maybe not comfortably or excessively but at least have housing and food) and they chose to live in the homeless shelter here so they can spend their money on drugs and alcohol.
ReplyDeleteOh damn, that's awful. The drugs and alcohol will really ruin your life. I do get rest. I wear foam ear plugs to bed so I don't hear all the BS going on outside.
DeleteWhat a fun idea for a post series.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm glad everyone enjoys these posts.
DeleteIt's sad that they're homeless, but it's also not nice if they're just sleeping close to your apartment complex like that, let's hope those new homeless housing will help a bit.
