This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 20 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 20 years here in a weekly blog post.
Last Sunday morning I get up and take the dog outside and there's some guy passed out on the sidewalk at the end of my courtyard. I didn't get close enough to see if I recognize him. He moved a few times and he had taken his shoes off and set them beside him so I knew he was not dead. Either he's homeless, passed out on drugs/drunk, or his girlfriend kicked him out. He got up and walked away a few hours later.
-------
On Tuesday a bunch of motorcycle cops and I'm guessing detectives in big trucks came through my neighborhood, the alley, the Cal Ranch parking lot and the path that I walk. They made all the homeless people come out of their tents, or makeshift tents and had them all in handcuffs for a few minutes while they talked to the group of 15 or so of them. Then they uncuffed them and let them all go. We saw the cops on motorcycles and the guys in the trucks driving around my area for a few hours. I have no idea what that was about but the homeless people are still in the same place.
The picture of the motorcycle police was taken through my bedroom window so it's not the greatest.
------
On Friday we heard a few gunshots in the area and a few minutes later the police helicopter was circling my apartment building.
After the helicopter was up for a few minutes the police cars started driving by. I don't know if they caught the person shooting off their gun or not.
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.
WHY can't the police do more to move these people on? Somehow I doubt the cops would put up with piles of drug addicts and homeless camping out on the streets where they live.
ReplyDeleteThere's a new ordinance that says the homeless can be given fines or arrested for sleeping on the sidewalk but the police seem to only enforce it in tourist areas.
DeleteThe hand-cuffing all the homeless people and then releasing them strikes me as on the weird side.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am always grateful when I read these weekly posts of yours that I live in a very boring neighbourhood.
It was weird.
DeleteI would have been scared that guy was dead! Glad he moved on. Very strange about the handcuffing just to ask questions. Seems like a violation.
ReplyDeleteIt's not the first time I've seen people sleeping down there.
DeleteWow,that is quite scary! In here nothing like this happens, like ever☺
ReplyDeleteI'm glad nothing like this happens where you are.
DeleteIf there's no clear policy from above (government)about the homeless, the police can't do anything effective. Their handling of the situation in your area seems absurd.
ReplyDeleteIt really is.
DeleteIt's too bad the guy didn't make it to bed. I always listen to these stand-up comics talk about how these drunk guys in the audience are going to home and wander where their clothes and wallet is. 'It happens' is all I can say.
ReplyDeleteYeah it does happen.
DeleteWeird to handcuff all those people and then just let them go.
ReplyDeleteYeah it was.
DeleteYou sure never lack for interesting and scary things going on!
ReplyDeleteI know. It's so weird around here.
DeleteWow. It sounds like you've had a pretty eventful week. It's sad that there never seems to be adequate places for the homeless.
ReplyDeleteThey are building an 800 bed place here but the drug addicts don't seem to want the help they can get.
DeleteMan, never a dull moment for you.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't seem so for the most part.
DeleteTHat place can be crazy
ReplyDeleteOh it definitely is.
DeleteNot more gunfire? Your part of town really doesn't sound safe. I'm always so impressed by how calm you are with all this weirdness happening!
ReplyDeleteYeah but they could have been shooting in the air not actually at someone. Thanks, if this stuff were happening to me I would be more upset.
DeleteI live in an apartment too, and I can't wait to move out one day! Apartment life can be crazy. I have a goy who yells and screams all day long, and he drives me nut. We've had people stealing cars out of garages, and people partying all hours of the night. The cops circling would worry me, and that guy just laying on the sidewalk like that! Hopefully this upcoming week isn't as crazy!

So you understand. lol Apartment living is the pitts. I hope so too but I won't hold my breath. lol
DeleteNever a dull moment for you! Stay safe, Mary!
ReplyDeleteIt's always crazy here. Thanks.
DeleteThat is a weird spot to lay. Even weirder was the cops handcuffing and then releasing.
ReplyDeleteIt's not the first time I've seen someone laying there.
DeleteThat does not look like a comfortable spot to take a nap! It's too bad there isn't something that can be done to help the homeless.
ReplyDeleteSome of the homeless don't want the help.
DeleteOh, Mary! That man must have had some serious toxic issues.
ReplyDeleteYour title should be: Apartment Hell/Life. Maybe?
I think he was just drunk. That's why I have hell crossed out in the end of the post.
DeleteThings get real when they're in the helicopter
ReplyDeleteI guess so.
DeleteOh kinda scary darling. Glad you are safe. I am lucky I don’t deal with that in that I live in a state that has really taken methods to reduce it. Glad the p9lice situation wasn’t too much to worry about, I do try not judge them too much unless I know all the facts but that’s just me ....happy week love
ReplyDeleteGlad you don't have to deal with things like this.
DeleteSo the police handcuffed all the homeless guys and then un-handcuffed them? I wonder what that was all about? Just trying to scare them?
ReplyDeleteI have no idea. Maybe they were looking for a particular person.
DeleteNever a dull moment...
ReplyDeleteNope, not around here.
DeleteYour neighborhood would make for a great Netflix series LOL
ReplyDeleteIt would!
DeleteMy first thought about the guy sleeping outside the door was that his girlfriend or wife kicked him out. Of course, it could be anything really. Handcuffing the homeless to question them does seem a bit extreme. I guess the cops were really worried about their own safety while they questioned them. We have people who shoot guns in the air here too. So stupid.
ReplyDeleteThere was a little action in the neighborhood right behind my workplace last week with police chasing a couple of kids. Some of the police were on foot and there were four or five cars with their sirens going, trying to block potential exit routes. They did catch them.
I hope you have a great week, Mary.
Sounds like you had some excitement last week too.
