This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 21 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 21 years here in a weekly blog post.
This week I saw a police car near the sound wall and when I stepped outside I saw that white car behind it pull up and it was a guy wearing a vest with LVPD logo on the back and a police shield hanging from his neck on a chair. So I'm thinking he might have been a detective. Right directly across from the police car is the alley for the apartment complex across the street from me and there were at least 7 police cars over there for hours. I have no clue what happened. It wouldn't surprise me if it were drug related though because there's a lot of activity that goes on over there. People actually pull up in their cars, honk their horn and someone will run out and take money from them, run back in an apartment and run back out and give the person in the car something and then they drive off. All day long.
-----
We heard a gunshot at 5:30am Thursday morning. There had been a party going on at 2am across the street when I took the dog for a walk so it was probably from them. I'm jut glad I wasn't outside when it happened.
----
Ken completed his last radiation treatment on Monday. They gave him a certificate and let him keep the plastic mask that fit over his head and kept his head still. When he went in to see his Oncologist on Thursday the doctor admitted him into the hospital because he's lost another 20lbs in the last month and he's not steady on his feet so she wanted to give him some supplements through the IV. He got out on Friday and met with his doctors and an in home hospice team. Ken has decided not to continue with anymore chemo or radiation because the cancer has spread to his pancreas and spine and there's nothing more they can do. So we met with the in home hospice nurse who came out and set everything up for us. It's not the news I was hoping for but we're going to be able to be there for him right here at home for as long as he has left.
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.
Oh Mary. I am so very sorry.
ReplyDeleteI will hold you and Ken in my heart.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that.
DeleteHey Mary. 😉 As usual, police's there. Why am I not surprised? 🙄
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't surprise me anymore either.
DeleteLove and hugs from all of us, we're all here for you.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, I really appreciate that.
DeleteDruggies and guns still abound at your sea.
ReplyDeleteThat is crummy news.
yeah it is.
DeleteMy prayers are with you and Ken as you enter this next phase of his life. I'm glad he'll be able to stay at home through it all with you. It's such a hard, sad thing. Hang in there!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, I really appreciate that.
DeletePrayers for you - so very sorry you have to go through this.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, I really appreciate that.
DeleteI'm so sorry to hear the sad news, but it sounds like Ken is living the time he has left on his terms. I'm happy you and your daughter will be able to be there for him instead of him alone in a hospital room. My thoughts are with you all!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, I really appreciate that.
DeleteAt home with you and daughter, will make things easier for Ken.
ReplyDeleteMay God strenghten you all three during this phase of Ken's life!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that.
DeleteI love that figuring out whether someone is a detective or not. I think that even talking to one would be great. I met a guy who was a former cop turn group home worker and he told me a lot of stuff, and then I may or may not have met an air marshall on a flight once.
ReplyDeleteIt's fun trying to figure out who all these people are.
DeleteI wonder if there's nothing they can do on a more permanent level to make your area crime-free. It sounds like sending out a police car (or even seven) once a week doesn't deter the people there from committing felonies...
ReplyDeleteAs I already told you on Twitter, I'm really sorry for your family. But what I know is that Ken will get to say goodbye well-cared of and well-loved, which is the most you can do at this point. Hang on in there.
I'm glad he's home with us too.
DeleteWhat very sad news. But it's good that Ken will be well looked after in the time he has left.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad he's home with us.
DeleteAww Mary, I’m so saddened by your news. I’m sorry for Ken, but also for you and your daughter and grandson. Please know that I’m thinking of you all. XO

ReplyDeleteThank you so much, I really appreciate that.
DeleteI saw the news about Ken on Twitter first, but I wanted to offer my condolences on here. I’m sorry to hear that, I hope he doesn’t feel much pain in his final days
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, I really appreciate that.
DeleteI'm sorry the outcome isn't what we were all hoping for. I am glad he will be with you/you with him. There are never the right words to say.
ReplyDeleteSending good wishes for your daughter and her little guy, too. It's going to be hard for you all.
I'm so sorry.
(((hugs)))

ReplyDeleteSending hugs. Ken is lucky to have you and it is good that he made a decision that makes him feel happy. I hope he is comfortable and at peace at home.
~Jess
Thank you.
DeleteThanks for filling us in and Congrats to Ken!!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome.
DeleteMary, sending all my love and prayers to you and Ken. I've lived through that tough decision with my best friend, so I know how bittersweet this moment is. I know you will cherish this time with him and it will be great for him to be at home with you.
ReplyDeleteOn a less serious note, we had some police activity at the home across the street from us. Apparently the elderly man who lived in the home up and abandoned it. He literally packed everything up and moved, left the doors unlocked and the garage door wide open. Police were there doing a walkthrough and closing everything up. The good news is that he has sold the property and the buyer is doing a complete remodel of the entire home. So now we've traded police for construction crews haha.
Thank you. That is crazy.
DeleteI'm so sorry for Ken... It's complicated but it's great that you're here for him
ReplyDeleteI'm glad he gets to stay home.
DeleteMy heart breaks for you guys. Hug!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that.
DeleteHugs to you and your family
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteI honestly don't even know what to say, I just hope you all can enjoy the time that's left to the fullest.
ReplyDeleteWe are trying.
DeleteOh Mary, I am so sorry to hear the news about Ken. I hope he's as comfortable as it's possible for him to be during the time he has left.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you and your family.
Thank you. He is comfortable.
DeleteOh Mary I'm so sorry. I had hoped that the treatment would slow things down. I went through this in 2014 with my mother and I can well remember what that was like. My heart breaks for you all and I'll have you all in my thoughts daily.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm sorry to had to go through this with your mother.
DeleteI'm so sorry to hear about Ken. I'm glad you can have him home.
ReplyDeleteI hope Hospice helps you like they helped me during the loss of my parents. They took care of so many things so that we could just be together but respected our wishes.
It's inadequate but {hugs}
Karen @ For What It's Worth
They have been great so far. Thank you.
DeleteI am truly sorry to hear that the cancer has spread and treatment will be stopped. I'm glad you have help through hospice to lean on during these tough times. They were a tremendous help when my father was battling cancer as well. I hope Ken is comfortable and you're able to just be with each other, cherishing the remaining time you have left. I'll keep your family in my thoughts ♥
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteI am so sorry to read this, but pleased that you are getting help through hospice care.
ReplyDeleteI will keep both you, Ken and family in my prayers.
All the best Jan
Thank you, I appreciate that.
DeleteI am so sorry the news about Ken wasn't what you were hoping for. You are in my thoughts. 💟💟💟
