This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 21 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 21 years here in a weekly blog post.
I walked outside with Falcor and saw two police cars and the two white vans. The police were across the street rounding up the homeless people that had made a camp over there and were sleeping. Ever since the new law about the homeless went into effect, the police have been rounding up the homeless when they see them on the streets. The new law states that it's against the law for the homeless to sleep on the sidewalks or streets as long as there are beds available at the shelters. I saw the police making them get into the vans.
You can't see it very well but there are two police officers behind the palm tree and by the police car. They are standing with 2 homeless people that they made get into a van. The funny thing was, once the police left with the 5 homeless people that they put in the vans...several more homeless people ended up being in the same place for the rest of the week.
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.
It's a fight with no winners 🙁.
ReplyDeleteTrue.
DeleteSadly there are never enough places in our shelters. Nowhere near enough. And if you have a dog you are not welcome.
ReplyDeleteThere aren't enough shelters here either but they are building more.
DeleteThe law sounds good, but there's law and there's reality.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the reality is most homeless won't go to the shelters.
DeleteSadly the cops have better things to do than round up homeless people all the time...
ReplyDeleteThey do but the homeless people are a huge problem.
DeleteThe problem never ends.
ReplyDeleteNo, it doesn't.
DeleteI’m not sure what the answer is. I thought they weren’t allowed to do drugs in the shelters, so that’s why they don’t use them. Forcing them to use the shelters sounds unsafe for the homeless women and children who need a safe place.
ReplyDeleteThat's probably one of the reasons. But when the police come if they won't go to the shelter, they go to jail.
DeleteIt's definitely a fight with no winners. Do they really think homeless people want to sleep in the streets?
ReplyDeleteI have no idea.
DeleteSlow week for you. ;D
ReplyDeleteYeah, thankfully.
DeleteSeveral more homeless people moved into the vacated space - that was pretty predictable! I wonder if they'll get rounded up as well?
ReplyDeleteI don't know if they will but I'll be watching to see what happens.
DeleteSad, the same problems over and over again.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it is sad.
DeleteSounds like a tough problem. I don't know what the right answer is- but I hope the shelter is a safe place for people.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week!

I wish they would build more shelters for them.
DeleteIts a pretty sad situation. Here in my state we have reduced the homeless population but it hasn't been easy. Some do choose the lifestyle, but I think if local communities reached out better with job opportunities, education, etc it would help.
ReplyDeleteIf there were more places for the mentally ill to get help and for the homeless with addiction problems to get help, there probably wouldn't be so many of them on the streets.
DeleteIt's so sad. I know it's a issue but I'm not sure there are any winners in it.
ReplyDeleteNo, there aren't.
DeleteThere were probably homeless watching the others be hauled away and thinking this spot will be clear for the week. I hope they are not arresting them, but just taking them to a shelter or to get help.

The law is if they refuse to go to a shelter they can be arrested.
DeleteIt's like whack-a mole! I shouldn't make light of it- I know it's a serious issue and there's often mental health and other societal issues. but it absolutely affects you guys too which is sad.
ReplyDeleteIf there were more places for the mentally ill to get help and for the homeless with addiction problems to get help, there probably wouldn't be so many of them on the streets
DeleteBig problem, I always wait for your new post from this series☺
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm glad that people like to read what goes on around here.
DeleteI wonder why they'd rather sleep on the street than in a shelter, because that seems like their preference if they just leave the shelter and come back after being rounded up. What a frustrating situation.
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of them are either mentally ill or addicted to drugs and that has a lot to do with it.
DeleteIt a good thing they are providing beds and making sure they get them but it still sounds like the system is so very broken. Definitely never a dull moment near you!
ReplyDeleteThe system is definitely broken.
DeleteIt seems like an endless cycle. We really need more community resources for the homeless. Shelters aren't enough, and frankly aren't always the safer option.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree.
DeleteOh that place
ReplyDeleteI know.
DeleteWhat about if they are on drugs? Can they still sleep at the shelter with the new law? Ours aren't allowed in if they are users.
ReplyDeleteI really don't know. I'm sure they don't allow drug use inside the facility.
DeleteMaybe the issue is finally being taken seriously and you'll see a gradual improvement as more shelters open, and maybe something being done about the drug dealers getting evicted. I really do hope so because what you have to put up with is appalling.
ReplyDeleteI can only hope so.
DeleteI hope they find real solutions---sounds like there are plenty of problems so go around.

Yeah, there are.
DeleteThey need to build housing for them instead of having so many shelters. 😢
ReplyDeleteyeah they do.
