This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.
For some reason I was seeing and finding needles everywhere this week. There was a large population of homeless people in these areas this week so that's probably why. Plus I was seeing a lot more people by drug dealers apartment this week as well. The wall that these first two needles were was right by the wall that separates my complex from the parking lot of the store next door. But right on the other side of this wall is a garbage can. Good grief.
I spotted this needle by the hiking trail that I walk Falcor.
And this needle was further down the hiking trail where I walk Falcor. I found a plastic bag to pick them all up and put them in the garbage can. I just think it's ridiculous that they leave their needles laying around like this.
----
Saturday morning around 3am, my daughter was sitting outside our door in one of our chairs and herd gunshots close by. She wasn't sure where they were coming from until a couple of people started running by the side of the apartment building from the alley and then she heard a couple more gunshots. She quickly came back inside and said a few minutes later she heard the police sirens out there as well. I have no idea if anyone got shot in the alley but I didn't see any blood out there when I walked Falcor later that morning.
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.
Mary, that's terrible finding needles everywhere. What about kids as well as pets and people walking down the street?
ReplyDeleteI've seen others pick them up and dispose of them as well. We also have a porter for the grounds and they pick up all the trash during the weekdays.
DeleteHi, Mary!
ReplyDeleteWith trash facilities within easy reach, it's just wrong for people to scatter their spent needles around oh the ground, making it necessary for you and Falcor to dodge them like land mines on your walks. If you're not extra careful, the poor pooch could get one of them stuck in his paw. And gunshots coming from the alley? It's a good thing Lizzie got back inside safely. The shooter must have had bad aim if you didn't find blood in the alley. I hope he or she was more considerate than those needle users and had the decency to pick up the shell casings and dispose of them properly. :)
Have a safe and happy week, dear friend Mary!
That's why I usually pick them up and throw them away when I see them so others don't get stuck.
DeleteHow on earth isn't possible for your area to get more sicure and livable? One would think that the police could do more than coming when things get hot...
ReplyDelete(isn't it possible)
DeleteI really don't know. The danger comes and goes with the different people moving in and out around here. A few years ago it was a lot worse. The police do drive around here a lot but unless they get out of their cars and walk through the courtyards, they aren't seeing much.
DeleteHope your daughter doesn't go outside at that hour anymore - God only knows what could happen with the weirdos in your area.
ReplyDeleteI keep telling her the same thing.
DeleteDrugs must be very cheap over there if hobos can use them so much and so often. You have to kill your parents and rob their house to buy drugs here LOL
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know you can get a line of coke for $20. I have no idea what meth costs. But they panhandle in the parking lot and get money that way. I assume that some of the women are prostituting themselves out in the drug apartment seeing how I see naked women coming out of that apartment on occasion.
DeleteI wonder what percentage of the homeless have a mental illness? I’m guessing 80%. It’s probably no surprise that they don’t have the mental awareness to throw anything away. Do you see other litter, like food wrappers?
ReplyDeleteYes, there's a lot of litter where they congregate. I'll have to take some pictures.
DeleteI haven't been seeing as much lately. I usually see a lot of garage sales this time of year in Minnesota, Maybe my head is just wrapping around survival these days.
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine what it's like in other places if I'm seeing so much just in my neighborhood.
DeleteStay safe!
ReplyDeleteI will try.
DeleteI was thinking along the same line as DESMOND ... how can the homeless afford the drugs? And that having to check for blood in the alley, WOE.
ReplyDeleteI see them panhandling in the parking lot where there's a McDonalds, Del Taco and a bunch of little shops. They get money that way.
DeletePeople are so inconsiderate! Hope no one got hurt. Stay safe, Mary!
ReplyDeleteI hope not either.
DeleteHard to believe this is happening in big, rich America with its resources and innovations. Things just seem out of control just as in the third world countries. Sad, very sad.
ReplyDeleteThings are bad here in a lot of different places. The help for drug addicts, homeless and mentally ill just isn't as available as it needs to be.
DeleteThis entire situation just sounds so scary. Glad you are all safe. Hugs, RO
ReplyDeleteIt is scary. But all I can do is deal with it as best as I can.
DeleteMaybe somebody shot the needle litterer.
ReplyDeleteIt's probably several needle litterers..
DeleteWhat a mess, that's not good people just dump those needles like that. That's nice of you to remove them so no one can get hurt by them.
ReplyDeleteI know there are a few others around here that pick them up too and the porter does during the week.
DeleteI really resent people who cannot pick up their own garbage - and used needles are a particularly dangerous sort of garbage. Stay well, stay safe.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
Deletedamn woman...you sure do have a lot of action around your place
ReplyDeletesherry @ fundinmental
Yeah, some weeks are worst than others but there's always something happening around here.
DeleteYikes that's a lot of needles. And then gunshots, too? Stay safe over there!
ReplyDeleteI will try.
DeleteThat's awful about the needles. And "didn't see any blood out there" Yikes. Be safe, my friend.
ReplyDeleteI will try to.
DeleteNeedle week!
ReplyDeleteI know. Terrible.
DeleteThat's a lot of them...
ReplyDeleteI know. Too darn many.
DeleteNo gunshots round here thankfully. Very sedate and suburban!
ReplyDeleteI wish it was around here.
DeleteGunshots at 3 AM would be scary. Those look like insulin syringes, but I'm sure they can be used for other things, too.
ReplyDeleteThey do but they do use them for drugs as well.
DeleteNeedles everywhere and Gunshots close by? I would be terrified to ever go outside!
ReplyDeleteIt's a little crazy around here.
