This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.
--
This week my daughter was sitting outside with her boyfriend when she saw a couple of police officers walking down our street with shotguns. She didn't see their car and didn't see where they were coming from or going to. I have no idea what was going on.
---
On Sunday at 10pm the police showed up in my courtyard. I don't know why they were here but they left soon after they talked with a resident. They didn't stay long and no one was arrested.
---
Friday afternoon a neighbor texted my daughter and told her the police were out front. We found out from a neighbor that a man in the last building of our apartment complex had died in his apartment. He'd been going through dialysis treatments and was sick. He passed away 4 days prior to this day and the AC had been off the whole time. (His AC was working he just didn't have it on when he passed away) Some people around here like the heat and don't turn their AC's on all day. He must have been one of those people. The white SUV on the left hand side if the coroner vehicle. I don't know if the man had any family around here or not.
The high this week was 113F/45C
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.
That's a whole lotta Drama! Sad about the Neighbor, hopefully he didn't Die because the Air Conditioner wasn't on/working?
ReplyDeleteNo he had Ac, he just didn't have it on when he passed away.
DeleteVery sad...
ReplyDeleteYes.
DeleteI am sorry to hear that a neighbour died - and those temperatures are DREADFUL. Stay as cool as you can. And safe.
ReplyDeleteYes it is. I will try.
DeleteSo, a relatively quiet one, and I mean no offense to the poor neighbor who passed away.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean though.
DeleteThat's so sad he was dead for four days before someone realized it...
ReplyDeleteYes, that is sad.
DeleteWell, that was sad news. Hope you get a cool down soon.
ReplyDeleteIt was. I hope so too.

ReplyDeleteHi, Mary!
ReplyDeleteSo, let's review. The mercury hit 113 this week, and the body of a dead neighbor remained undiscovered four days in an apartment with no air conditioning. Not good, dear friend. Not good. At least the poor man suffers no more. May he rest in peace.
It must be reassuring to see police officers walking down the street with shotguns... or not. All in all, it was a quiet week on your block, and that's a win for Team Mary.
Please stay safe and have a good week, dear friend Mary!
Yes, who knows why he had the air off. A lot of people around here seem to like the heat and have their doors and windows open during the day.
DeleteLots of interesting things going on in your neck of the woods Mary--hope you find a few pleasant things this week. Got to love those palm trees despite the authorities having no rest in your area.
ReplyDeleteThe palm trees are nice.
DeleteYou've got your own police show going on there. That is sad about that poor guy.
ReplyDeleteI see the police around here all the time.
DeleteThat's so sad.
ReplyDeleteIt is. I feel bad for him and his family.
DeleteWe've had a few residents die alone in their units. One guy was found days after, with bruises on his body and his new caretaker gone missing. I lived a few months in a senior complex that used orange cards. Residents put the orange card on their door at night and, if the card wasn't removed by a certain time the next morning, a welfare check was made to make sure they'd not passed during the night.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that's a really good way of checking on people. Ken used to work maintenance here for years. He's found 3 people who had passed away in their apartments. One of the other maintenance people passed away in his truck in the parking lot and the pool guy passed away while cleaning the pool.
DeleteMaintenance man and pool guy, Good Lord! Was it the heat?
DeleteThe pool guy had a heart attack and the maintenance guy was in his 70's and it was cool outside so not the heat.
DeleteSo sad about the neighbor. I don't think I'd want to go into his apartment after four days with him being dead without the A/C. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteI know. Sad all the way around.
DeleteSo a quiet week in your neighborhood. ;D
ReplyDeletePretty much.
DeleteIt is the bad smell of a corpse after a few days, that makes neighbors call the police.
ReplyDeleteVery sad.
That's what I was thinking too.
DeleteOmg, so got.
ReplyDeleteAnd omg!
I know.
DeleteOh my. Never good to see the cops with shotguns in hand. :) And that poor guy. Man, that place must have not smelled good with the heat and if he was there for days...
ReplyDeleteI don't know why the cops are walking around with shotguns. Not good.
DeleteSure been hot there.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Yeah it has.
DeletePolice with shotguns...braced for some drama, I guess. At least they didn't fire...
ReplyDeleteIt's so sad that that man died alone and his body wasn't found for 4 days - probably only because of the smell, or who knows how long it could have stayed there...
It is sad. I just want to know why they are waking around with shotguns. Where were they going.
DeleteI shudder to think what state the dead man was in after four days with no air conditioning.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it wasn't good.
DeleteSorry about the drama. Somewhere I remember reading about someone keeping the body of the deceased (I think a parent) so to continue receiving social security payments. It got really bad and they discovered the person several months later when neighbors complained of the smell. I'm sure at 113, it would get bad quick! Police with shotguns, that seems serious.
ReplyDeleteOh dang that's terrible. People will do the dumbest things for money.
DeleteI hope that the man didn't die because of the heat. It is a shame either way. The police should just open a small station on your street since they are there all the time anyway.
ReplyDeleteI don't think he did but I'm not sure. He had a working AC he just had it off.
DeleteThat's sad about your neighbor.
ReplyDeleteIt was 90 here today and I wanted to die. I don't know how you survive those over 100 temps!
I try not to go out much during the day.
DeleteSo sorry to hear about your neighbor, and the exact same thing happened here about 2 years ago with a gentleman who had been on dialysis. Such a sad situation. I have some people around here who love the heat too. Hugs, RO
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that. It is sad.
DeleteThank goodness you have AC! 🥵
ReplyDeleteI would move out of state without it.
