Apartment Life #280

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.

---
My daughter and neighbor were telling me how two men were going around banging on doors (including ours) at 2am last Sunday morning.  Thankfully my daughter didn't open the door but she heard them saying to someone else that they were looking for *Michelle* that she was being held hostage in the 119 building. But the 119 building is across the street. It was sketchy as hell. I was wondering if they were seeing if anyone would open their door so they could rush in and rob them. It's happened before. I didn't hear anything else about it.

---

My neighbor was so mad on Sunday. She had a yelling match with the people in drug dealers apartment because so many of the druggies are pushing carts full of items they found in the trash down the walkway in front of her apartment and trying to trade said items for crack. All day last Saturday people were going back and forth with carts full of trash and my neighbor is tired of it. Not that I blame her one bit.

So my neighbor is using chairs, a table, potted plants and whatever else she can find in her apartment to block off the sidewalk in front of her door so people with carts can't push the cart by her door. I heard her telling drug dealer that if he has a bunch of people at his apartment from now she's calling the police. She's so mad.

The next day the guy in the apartment directly across from her started yelling at all the druggie coming and going and waiting in front of drug dealer's apartment. He yelled that they needed to leave, that they didn't live here and needed to be gone. They left for a while but it didn't last long. That guy is so quiet, I've never heard him raise his voice before but I guess people are here are getting tired of the druggies hanging around all the tie causing problems for the people that live here.

The high this week was 72F/22C
The low this week was 41F/5C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

I am glad that your daughter didn't open the door, and yes, I would be getting angry too.

    1. I'm glad she didn't either. People getting mad helped for a while but there are still a lot of people at his door.

  2. If people can deal openly with drugs , then there's complete lack of governance in the area. I'm afraid lack of governance is felt nowadays in almost the whole western world.

    1. This kind of thing happens all over. There's not enough cops to deal with it. They can't do anything about it unless the police see it happening themselves.

  3. Hi, Mary!

Yessum, it seems like the drug problems in your neighborhood are getting worse. If the drug seekers quietly and discreetly came and went from the dealer's pad, there might not be such an uproar, but they're taking it too far when they arrive in groups, loiter on the block and park their unsightly carts filled with trash at residents' doors. I'm very sorry you and other law-abiding neighbors need to put up with this situation in addition to having your rent raised.

Here in Central Florida, our daily highs and lows were similar to yours the last few days. I love the cooler air!

Have a wonderful week, dear friend Mary!

    1. Drug dealer knows he's not going to get in any trouble because the police have to see it happening in order for them to do something. It should be getting cooler soon.

  4. They did not knock on your doors because you are the axe lady, naturally.

    1. Oh but they did knock on my door. My daughter just didn't answer it.

  5. And why hasn't someone called the police?

    1. The police have been called many times. They can't or won't do anything. When the police come, they just don't answer the door. Unless they have a warrant, you don't have to answer your door and they know that. Unless the police see the drug deals happening, there's nothing they can do about it. Management has been told numerous times too and they don't care.

  6. Seeing all that happens here, I would have a whole safe of guns to protect myself because I would be so scared all the time. Stay safe.

  7. I swear I heard a few yelling matches over thanksgiving in my building. I admit that I did not even open the door to see what's up. It becomes too much after a while. I do appreciate one of my neighbors who has been bringing candy to my son.

  8. I seriously doubt calling the cops will be any help. Does the dealer, insofar as you can figure it out, actually trade for the trash?

    1. You are exactly right. The police have been called so many times and they can't do anything unless they see the drug dealing happening.

Yes, he does trade if the trash is something he wants.

    2. I cannot imagine. I've heard of "Drugs for Cash" but never "Drugs for Trash". I'd hate to see the inside of the dealer's apartment.

  9. Wow! It’s actually nice to hear that people are sick and tired of it. Not exactly safe to confront, but I guess your neighbors are feeling desperate for some peace and quiet.

  10. I can understand why your neighbors are getting tired of all the druggies coming by! What a mess of a situation.

  11. I'm glad your daughter chose the safe route of not opening the door. What a nuisance the druggies are. It's frustrating b/c unless a cop moves into the complex or they escalate matters, there's not much that can be done- unless there is a clause in the apartment lease contract? Stay safe, Mary!

    1. Exactly. There's not much that can be done.

  13. Wow banging on the doors in the middle of the night? Crazy. And good on your neighbor. People reach their limit but sadly the bad ones will still be around...

  16. I'm glad you and your daughter are keeping safe, especially as the neighborhood seems to be slipping into more dangerous territory!

  17. That sounds like a terrible situation. If I was that neighbor I would be telling them to leave too.

  18. The high this week where I live in OK is forecasted to be 73. For the first week of December! Ugh. I want cooler weather!

  19. If the good people that live in these apartments started to hold their rent back, management might get off their butt and do something.

    1. Ah, but in this state we're not allowed to do that. Tenants have tried that but we have something here called a 30 day no cause. Which means landlords can kick you out for no reason other than they want to after giving you a 30 day notice. If you don't voluntarily move out after 30 days, they call the constable and he changes the locks and kicks you out right then and there. There's no fighting this so tenants know there's nothing we can do in this state.

  20. Yeah, it's never a good idea to open the door to someone you don't know at that time of night! So glad your daughter didn't fall for it. I can understand why everyone would be tired of the druggies and their behavior!

    1. That's why I started writing these weekly posts. I had been sharing them on FB but all my friends told me to make it a book but blog posts sounded better to me. There's always something happening around here.

  24. Well I hope they figure out some kind of solution for those people always hanging around. You really do always have something happening.
