This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 25 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 25 years here in a weekly blog post.
Update on my neighbor who had her car towed:
She told me that she hasn't paid rent in 2 months, ever since her car was towed. She said that the manager keeps coming to her door asking her when she's going to pay rent and she keeps telling them she's not until they reimburse her the $800 she paid to get her car out of the towing place. I don't see that happening.
I asked her why she doesn't just register her car and go to DMV and get her own plates? She said because if she did that she would have to take her car to a mechanic so that her car would pass the smog check because it won't right now. And if she did register it she would have to pay each year to get another smog check and if it didn't pass, more work done at the mechanics and pay more money for the registration sticker each year and she doesn't want to pay the money. It's just that simple.
So she would rather steal registration stickers off of other peoples cars and steal a license plate from another car that looks like hers so she doesn't get pulled over while driving. She said if the judge makes her hand over the license plate she has, she'll just get another one. Oh and the manager never came by to do an apartment inspection and no other door locks have been changed. So they gave her a line of bull so they could change her locks.

I looked out my bedroom window and saw this woman sitting here right out in the open hitting the crack pipe. I really don't know for sure what kind of drugs she was smoking but probably meth or crack. I took this picture from my bedroom window and you can see she was across the street. I watched for a few minutes because I had a feeling she was going to pass out there on the sidewalk and I was right.
A few minutes later she just sorta fell over. A police car drove right by her and didn't stop. Like I've said before, there's no need to call the police, they won't do anything. She slept there for about 30 minutes.
Then two of her junkie friends came along on their bicycles and woke her up. She was having a really hard time standing up but she did eventually gather her stuff and walk away with them. It's not unusual to see people passed out, high, or doing drugs right out in the open around here. I want to reiterate that I don't take or post pictures of these people to make fun of them but rather to show people what it's like to live around here and what I see on an almost daily basis.
The high this week was 83F/28C
The low this week was 47F/8C
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.
Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI have no sympathy for your neighbour avoiding paying registration but happy to take advantage of those who do.
And know that you are not making fun of the people using drugs. Who knows what took them down that path.
She is going to end up paying for cheating on the DMV fees. Thank you.
DeleteThe first woman is pathetic.
ReplyDeleteAnd the second situation is pathetic. I watch a cop show that spans many states, and most of the time, when they find someone drunk or high in public, they are arrested for public intoxication. Or if the cop is really nice, he guides them home. But they don't just ignore people lying in the streets.
Around here the police might not even come when you call them.
DeleteVery sad situation - a woman passed out on the street and not even the cops approach her to see whether she's alive or dead, and help her.
ReplyDeleteIt is.
DeleteThe smog checks here are free, but it does cost money to get your car fixed for it.
ReplyDeleteOh, I do know you are not making fun of anyone. I consider it a form of documentary of the sad state of America.
Here smog checks are $20. Thank you.
DeleteSo many people in need of help, it is sad.
ReplyDeleteIt is.
DeleteSeems your neighbor is determined to take the hard road. Much as she doesn't want to deal with DMV, licensing, repairs, smog checks, those are lesser headaches than consequences of not paying rent, fighting a losing battle with management, getting evicted.
ReplyDeleteOh I agree. She is going to end up losing big at some point.
DeleteThat's very sad, she needs some help but I doubt she'll seek it or get it.
ReplyDeleteI doubt it too.
DeleteOh boy, so much going on by you.
ReplyDeleteAlways.
DeleteHow long do you think your neighbor can get away with not paying her rent?
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling that once the court case is done management will evict her.
DeleteI guess the story of the woman who won't register her car is just symptomatic of the cost of living crisis. Registering her car means paying out money - maybe a hefty sum she can't afford - so she's ducking and diving. And presumably she can't afford the towing fee either.
ReplyDeleteIt's going to end up costing her a lot more in the long run.
DeleteThat crazy lazy without the license plate could start providing taxi service for the junkies, they might as well team up.

DeletePolice went right by!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat lady too with the plates. Wow she's doing it ass backwards
They just drove by. She is going to pay in the end.
DeleteIt sounds like your neighbor is going to be evicted before everything is over. I am so sorry that you have to live in the middle of all of this.
ReplyDeleteI took think she will be evicted.
DeleteYour neighbor stealing plates is creating a nightmare for others who lose their tags... And that poor woman on drugs, that's a tragic life.
ReplyDeleteYes she is. It's sad all around.
DeleteI mean, it would be one thing if that woman was poor, but the way she talks, I gathered that she "simply" doesn't want to spend the money...Now if she keeps stealing plates she should "simply" go to jail...🤷♀️
ReplyDelete"I want to reiterate that I don't take or post pictures of these people to make fun of them but rather to show people what it's like to live around here and what I see on an almost daily basis."
Yep...it's so sad and infuriating that nobody "up there" moves a finger to change that.
She just doesn't want to pay the money when she can just steal it instead. It really is sad.
DeleteI have to think, that your neighbor is making more problems by refusing to take care of her car properly.
ReplyDeleteOh she definitely is.
DeleteWhat a rough week. I give you props for continuing to be a (mostly) positive person despite your surroundings. And isn't it so frustrating when people cheat the system because they can? I hope you and yours have a good week!
ReplyDeleteThank you, I appreciate that.
DeleteIn North Carolina, transgender youth are having a hard time of it procuring medically necessary medicines. You can find out by blogging www.emilysvirtualrocket.blogspot.com. Thank you very much.
