    Why is the last one missing a part of his ear? I have seen that often on rats.

      Some rat breeders will notch an ear to be able to tell females from males. Other times a mother rat can too aggressively clean their babies and accidentally bite a piece of the babies ear off. Or other young rats will bite a ear also.
