Apartment Life #400

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 27 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 27 years here in a weekly blog post.

Last year in this post on my blog I mentioned that 2 ladies had been living out of their U-Haul for a couple of months and just moving it to different areas of my neighborhood. That went on for over a year.

Sunday morning I see the same women and U-Haul down the street and the police have arrested the women and are towing away the U-Haul. If you are trying to stay away from the cops, this is the wrong neighborhood to be in!

On Monday December 1st, I put in a work order for my sink that was leaking. On Monday December 15th, I sent an email to the office that even though it says the work order was completed, no one ever came to look at my sink and it was still leaking. She sent a response that she would notify maintenance. On Wednesday December 17th, I saw the apartment manager in the office and asked her when maintenance might be able to come and fix the leak. Maintenance finally came out that day and fixed it. Only took almost 3 weeks. lol

Monday at 4am the police were in my courtyard at the apartment 2 doors away. They were here for quite a while. I found out a couple of days later that the girlfriend got jealous of her boyfriend just talking with another woman and she came after him with a knife. His hand was cut and he had to get stitches. This same woman slashed their car tires (A car they both used) when she got jealous a couple of weeks ago as well. She got arrested and he went to the ER to get stitches.

Tuesday morning I saw a guy who lives across the street in the corner apartment getting into the ambulance. His face was all swollen and bloody. A bunch of the homeless people were outside as well as "Helper/Sean" (The guy who helps the elderly people across the street). I asked Sean if he knew what happened and one of the homeless guys spoke up and said his buddy had been sitting on the stairs where the beat up guy lives. Beat up guy asked his buddy to leave because he was about to feed the stray cats (He feeds the cats a couple of times a day) and he didn't want "His Buddy" to scare the cats away. Well, his buddy didn't want to leave and beat up guy tried pushing his buddy away from him. Beat up guy took a swing at his buddy and all hell broke loose. So "His Buddy" beat the hell out of beat up guy and then he left. Beat up guy called 911 and an ambulance showed up but the police never did. I don't know if he didn't press charges or what. Beat up guy went to the ER.

This is also my 400th Apartment Life post. Who knew I would have so much to post about each week when I started these posts.

The high this week was 72F/22C
The low this week was 47F/8C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

  1. It's just stupid that the police will come and crack down hard at people living in a U-Haul and not bothering anyone (as far as you mention), but don't take serious action about actual violence and break-ins and harassment.

    1. They've had that U-Haul for over a year. I have a feeling it was probably stolen at this point.

  2. So of course I'm curious about the U-Haul truck. You know good and well they didn't rent it, so did they steal it years ago? What a life and what a place to live. Too bad those men had to get in a fight and I bet the cats never got fed.

  3. As Lynn said, I’m guessing the UHaul was stolen, but why did it take the police so long to figure that out?

    1. I don't know. They even stopped them and asked about the U-haul last year. It took them a long time to finally haul it away.

  4. Life is far too exciting in your neighbourhood, but interesting for us to read about. 😀

  5. Hi, Mary!

Congratulations on reaching the 400th post milestone for your feature Apartment Life. Think of all the wacky and disturbing events you have reported on over the years!

I'm glad you finally got that sink leak fixed. "Better late than never" seems to be the official policy of apartment management. The knifing, tire slashing and beating incidents remind us that it doesn't take much provocation for some people to explode into violence, and this is unfortunately too often the case with residents of your neighborhood.

The last post of 2025 is up and running at Shady's Place and I hope you can come take a look. Happy holidays to you, my buddy Falcor and your whole family, dear friend Mary!

  7. You could have been flooded in those three weeks for all they care... Hope the plumber at least had a nice ass....

  8. It would be exhausting to be a police officer in some areas. I think I would prefer a country town where nothing happens at all!

    1. Yes, but if it were calm around here, I would have nothing to write about. LOL

  10. Those poor ladies made a good job of it to be able to live safely in the U-Haul for over a year. Sorry, they are now displaced. Sounds like beat up guy hassled the wrong person. The way things are going out in the world, he should consider himself lucky that it was just fists flying.

    1. I don't think the police would have towed it away if it hadn't been stolen.

  11. Only 3 weeks to get your sink fixed. Is that a record? ;D And congrats on reaching your 400th post of Apartment Life. I know I always find these posts entertaining. Wishing you a good week this week, Mary!

  13. 400 posts! And only, like, one out of 50 where nothing crazy happens LOL.

It was nice of the apartment manager to take care of your sink before Christmas at all...🙄

  14. As you say, if those women in the U-Haul wanted to be un-noticed, they were in the wrong neighbourhood!

  15. I know I could afford an U-haul for any length of time.

  16. Living in a condo, we are not responsible for any of the outside maintenance. Every time we submit a request for something I get annoyed at how long it takes before the job is done.
