This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 22 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 23 years here in a weekly blog post.
On Tuesday I was walking Falcor and spotted this used syringe on the sidewalk. I used a piece of paper to pick it up and throw it in the garbage. Don't need the little kids around here getting a hold of something like this.
Then on Thursday I was out walking Falcor and looked in the rocks that my apartment complex has instead of grass and spotted something. You probably don't see it...
This is what I saw in the rocks...a crack pipe. And again, I carefully put it in the trash. I don't care if people want to do drugs, that's on them but don't leave your paraphernalia just laying about for kids to find.
And the hits just kept coming this week! On Friday I started seeing the orange tops from the needles, all over the ground so I started keeping an eye out because I had a feeling there would be more dirty needles laying around and I was right. To the left of the syringe there's the orange top to the needle. They couldn't even be bothered to put the cap back on and throw the needle away in the trash can that wasn't 15 feet away.
A few minutes later I spotted yet another used needle and orange cap about 20 feet from the last one. It pisses me off that these idiots won't even put the cap back on the used syringe. There are lots of kids around here and people walking their dogs. All of these needles are in the places that the homeless people around here usually gather or sleep. There are trash cans near here and so I picked them all up and disposed of them. It's beginning to be a real problem around here as you can see. I'm sure I'm not the only one walking their dog and putting these things in the trash.

That's true. I see used masks around here all the time too.

DeleteThat's good that you pick them up so kids won't. Sad but you do the best you can. It beats doing nothing and seeing it all the time.
ReplyDeleteI just don't want a kid finding it. I know I'm not the only one finding these things. I see the porter out picking up the trash during the weekdays too so I know he's finding some stuff as well.

DeleteIt never ends, huh? Like I mentioned in a previous comment, some of the shit I've found while working at apartment communities would disgust you. The used condoms were nothing new, syringes, tiny baggies with skulls, smiley faces- take your pick- littered the spaces between buildings. And don't get me going on the eviction left-behinds...

DeleteSo many druggies there.... why are there so many drug users in USA? I mean, we are more desperate financially and we don't have them so much... is it because drugs are widely available there?
ReplyDeleteYeah, they are really easy to get a hold of. I know 3 apartments just on my street where I could get anything I wanted. If I wanted.

DeleteThat's a lot of needles and such you found this week. The least they could do is properly dispose of those things so they aren't a danger to others. That's nice you put them in the trash so no kids or pets can stumble upon it.

DeleteI am curious. The syringes you show appear to be for insulin (I should know as I use one of them every day as a type 1 diabetic). Such syringes have short needles as you want to shoot the insulin in the fat layer just under the skin, not into your bloodstream. Do people also use these syringes for drugs? It is good to get them picked up and away from children, thanks.

DeleteThank goodness you found them and picked them up. I wish the drug users would be more responsible and pick up after themselves. I used to live next to a halfway house and someone(s) was throwing their pills over the fence into our backyard. This was before my daughter was born, but I was always worried my dog would eat them. I went over and complained and it stopped, fortunately.

DeleteI'm fairly certain the residents there had mental health issues because the pills appeared to be psychotropic meds. Maybe someone decided they didn't need their medication anymore but wanted to keep it a secret. That's my best guess, anyway.

DeleteI do a pick up as I go for my walks, too. I've considered getting one of those pincher sticks and carry a trash bag as I go. People are filthy.

ReplyDeleteSo dangerous. When we lived in Da Hood we had to watch for such things all of the time. I had a Historic Property with Acreage that was there Decades before the City grew around it, so we had an Acre with a high Rock Wall around it and some Addicts would throw their contraband over our Walls, probably so they wouldn't be caught with it if Cops passed by. So, I'd have to do Daily walks around our Acreage to ensure it was safe for the Grandkids I was Raising and for our Pets. It pissed me off, so do louts that litter any kind of garbage. You're right tho' even if trash receptacles are handy, most slobs are too lazy to even put their trash in them. I'm an Insulin Diabetic, but I always dispose of my Needles responsibly.
