Apartment Life #260

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 23 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 23 years here in a weekly blog post.

My daughter took a video when she spotted a fire in one of the garbage cans in the alley and the fire truck was in the alley putting it out. Turns out that someone had set a mattress on fire in the garbage can.

You can't really tell much from the picture other than there are flashing lights from the fire truck.

The 4th of July was another crazy one. Lots of illegal fireworks going off until well after 2am. But at least none of the tree's caught fire this year.

----

On Thursday night I was out with Falcor about 10pm and as I'm walking back to my apartment a guy on the other side of the chain link fence says, "Your dog likes to sniff the ground a lot. Well, he'll have something to sniff in a moment cause I'm fixing to take a sh*t right here."

It was a homeless guy and he was slurring his words really badly, so probably drunk. And as I passed he popped a squat but I just kept walking.

If I didn't have this dog, I would never leave my apartment. Some of my newer readers might not know that I suffer from Agoraphobia and social anxiety. I don't like going outside at all but Falcor gets me out there and sometimes we run into the weirdest of people. Thanks Falcor.

The high this week was 116f/46C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

  1. A mattress fire... nice. And the firework craziness seems to get more and more each year, doesn't it?

That homeless guy... oh my gosh. I'm not sure I would leave the apartment much, either, honestly.

    116!!! Yeesh...

    1. I was surprised the fireworks lasted so long. The fire at least didn't spread to any buildings. Yeah it's hot here.

  2. I don't like going outside at all

Are you sure that's agoraphobia or is it just the fact that "outside" in your area resembles a cross between a war zone and a lunatic asylum?

    1. Before we had Falcor I hadn't stepped outside my apartment door more than a couple of time in 10 years. I still feel shaky and scared everytime I step outside. I can't get in a car and go anywhere unless I have to which has only happened 3 times in the last 7 years. It's definitely Agoraphobia but I am trying to do a little better.

  3. Hi, Mary!

Gosh, dear friend, there always seems to be a dumpster fire of one kind or another taking place on your block. A burning mattress? I think I know who's responsible. It was that cheating married guy's red hot gf. She's been known to set the bed on fire on numerous occasions.

I'm happy to learn the 4th of July fireworks tapered off at a decent hour - 2 am.

I'm sorry you are continuing to endure extreme heat. I read that the mercury hit 130 in Death Valley.

Sorry about the homeless man. When you gotta go... you gotta go, but announcing it to you and Falcor was TMI.

Have a safe and happy week, der friend Mary!

    1. Cordless drill woman could have set the mattress on fire. lol

Yeah 2 am was a bit much.

It's always hot here in the Summer.

Yeah, there are some things I don't need to know. lol

  5. 46c!!!! OMG, I'd die...

I think it's awesome that Falcor gets you out and about but it sucks that you encounter so much crap (in this case literally!) on your walks. :(

    1. Yeah, it's hot here. I only go out for short bursts and leave the longer walks for early morning and late night.

  6. Them homeless hobos are ever so polite, true British gents indeed LOL You really should spray them all with some pepper spray every time you see them.

  7. Is it odd that I enjoy reading these posts about the goings-on in your neighborhood? Sounds like there's never a dull moment, Mary, but I have to say- the homeless guy shitting takes the cake.

Oh...so nice of them LOL 😲.

I mean...the homeless guy...TMI, definitely 😂. Really, I don't know how you endure living in that (literal, in this case) dumpster fire. I mean, I'm sure you would leave if you could. But what I was trying to say is, you're probably stronger than you give yourself credit for.

  10. I've been watching on the news about the excessive heat there, and I know it's got to be uncomfortable. I know it's rough for you to go out, and then to have people doing strange things can't make it any easier. That fire in the trash had to be so scary, but thankfully no one was hurt. Never a dull moment for sure, Marvelous Mary. Hugs, RO

  13. Too bad Factor is not an attack dog, so you could have given him the attack command and scared the crap outta that guy rather than letting him crap voluntarily.

  15. It's rather risky to go out at night regardless the neighborhood. A neighbor of mine across the street who's avoiding people, walks her dog in the early hours of the morning.

    1. You don't really have a choice when you have a dog. When they gotta go you either take them out or get a mess on the rug.

  16. In temperatures like that I would never go out. Stay as cool as you can.

  17. Sorry to hear you suffer from Agoraphobia, and I'm sorry to hear you ran into that weirdo while walking Falcor! What a jerk.

  26. Just now getting caught up on Blog reads, I wouldn't leave the house much either, at least not without an attack dog. Fires in the Dumpster and Homeless Toiletry on the Sidewalks, the area clearly has gotten seedier and seedier. I think you once mentioned it didn't used to be that way, a shame the demographic shift has brought it way downhill. That's what happened at our Historic Home, tho' not quite to that degree, but the Addicts and Criminal Element began being very problematic. I miss the Historic Home, but I don't miss all the High Drama the area had become inundated with.
