Apartment Life #345

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 25 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 26 years here in a weekly blog post.

Update from last week:
We heard from the officer about the 4 individuals who pointed a gun at my daughter. They caught all 4 of them when they were trying to steal another car. They ran when they got caught and police chased them and caught them. So at least they are off the streets for now.
---

On Sunday night really late, we heard several gunshots. Then a few minutes later, several more gunshots. I turned on my bedroom camera and was watching it when a guy came out from the courtyard across the street, aimed a gun in the air, fire off several more shots and ran back inside one of the apartments in that courtyard but I couldn't see which one he ran into. My daughter called the police and they came out. After looking around, they didn't find anything so they left. The guy with the gun didn't come out again that I saw.

The police were in the same courtyard across the street on Wednesday where I saw a guy a few days ago shooting off his gun. I don't know if they were there for the same guy though. I didn't see anyone arrested so I don't know what was going on.
---

You see this gate right here? This is new. This hole in the wall is right behind my apartment building. As you can see the grocery store, Cal-Ranch, McDonalds, Del Taco and the dog shelter and training place is right on the other side of this block wall. People have been using this hole in the wall for the 26 years that I've lived here to easily get to whatever stores are here. Before Marianas and Cal- Ranch there was a CVS and Smiths grocery store here.

Everyone in the neighborhood uses this hole in the wall to get to these shops. Now one of these shops installed a gate that does not open. How rude, selfish and idiotic they are. I'm thinking it was Cal-Ranch since they seem to think they own this entire neighborhood since moving over here. Now we all have to walk the long way around to get to the grocery store. I can only hope someone gets mad and breaks the wall. They tried to block this hole one other time by putting in more blocks and cement but that was destroyed really fast.

The high this week was 67F/19C
The low this week was 36F/2C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

  1. I expect that you won't have to walk the long way to the shops for long.
I am really glad that the people who pointed the gun at your daughter were caught. Really, really glad.

    1. I'm sure the gate will be gone at some point. I'm glad they got caught too.

  2. I hope those four guys are off the street for a long time. I don't know what the laws in Nevada are like, but threatening a person with a gun should carry a severe penalty. It's a threat to the victim's life.

Can't imagine what the intended purpose of blocking off that hole in the wall would be. Next time you're in the grocery store, you might want to ask if they know who did it and why. Then everyone can just avoid that one business.

    1. I don't know what they're being charged with but they were caught in the middle of trying to steal another car and running from the police.

    1. Oh I'm sure he was doing it for fun but those bullets have to come down somewhere.

  4. Why install a gate that is locked? What's the point?

    1. I have no idea. It's not stopping anyone, they are just climbing over it right now.

  5. They don’t want the apartment dwellers to shop there? So strange.
    Glad the gunmen were caught.

  7. Hi, Mary!

The relative peace and tranquility your neighborhood was enjoying on my last two or three monthly visits to Dark Thoughts has yielded to incidents of gunfire and increased police presence. I'm sorry to learn for the first time about the scary episode involving your daughter. It's good to know authorities rounded up the offenders. It's alarming that the man who shot his gun into the air either lives in your neighborhood himself or hangs out at an apartment belonging to one of your neighbors. A gate that isn't designed to open is indeed a cruel insult to the community. I hope it comes down one way or another.

I am back in action with November's post at Shady's Place and hope you and my buddy Falcor can drop by for a look and a listen. I wish you a happy Sunday and a great week ahead, dear friend Mary!

  8. I'm amazed the cops caught those Crips. Will your daughter have to testify about their pulling a gun on her or will this be another catch and bond out and back on the streets thing instead of some real jail time? Too bad your camera doesn't record so the cops could ID the guy in your complex shooting off rounds. And I imagine someone will smash the concrete around the gate, take the gate away and sell it, LOL.

    1. The police haven't told her she has to testify yet. They were caught red handed trying to steal another car so maybe she won't have to. I hope someone does take the gate. lol

  9. Yay that the police caught the guys who pointed a gun at your daughter! And that is really rude that they put a gate in that denies you access to their businesses. How frustrating.

  11. I wonder if the gate was even installed legally. Might be worth a phone call or email to the city. Stir up a little crap. Call the news, in Oregon we have '2 on your side' but there are lots of variations of a similar thing in other cities. I'd raise hell just 'cause.

Hope they lock up the shitheads who pointed a gun at your daughter, but it seems that there really aren't any serious penalties for that kind of thing anymore. That and car theft. It's like LE doesn't give a shit and neither does the justice system.

    1. That's an interesting idea. I will look into doing that. I want to know who installed the gate through. I hope those guys spend some time in jail for what they did.

    2. I was also going to mention the 'squeaky wheel' idea.

  12. That is terrifying. It's like an episode of one of those crime shows on TV.

  14. Wow. I can see if the gate could be opened, but it's silly to block customers from using the gate. Oh well.

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  17. I'm so glad they caught those guys. I hope they are away for a while as that had to have been scary for your daughter.

If they're going to block the doorway, at least make it like some sort of door that you all can open. Otherwise, that's just rude.

  22. I hope those guys stay in jail for a long time...but it sounds like the new trend around your place is firing guns for the sake of it. These people must have money to throw away.

I was wondering about the same thing Ami did...is that gate even allowed?

    1. I'm not sure if it's allowed. I think it depends on who installed it and I don't know who it was yet.
