Review: Fever by Donna Grant
Book Description
His kiss was fire and passion. She shivered, wondering how he knew just how to touch her, to
send her spiraling into an abyss of pleasure...
For centuries, the Dragon Kings have lived among mortals, forsaking their true selves. But for Kelton, hiding in the realm of shadows—and existing only in the world of dreams—is no longer an option. A human woman claims to know that he, like other dark warriors of his kind, is real. That the legends about these powerful, seductive men with hearts ablaze are true. And that, with just one embrace, Kelton could destroy her…or love her until the end of time.
Bernadette Davies is an anthropologist who knows better than to fall into the arms of a Dragon King. But how can she resist Kelton when he’s so willing to share his secrets and bare his soul? He hasn’t met a beautiful, trustworthy woman like Bernadette in…forever. But once they give into their mutual desire, their worlds will never be the same. Soon Bernadette must face her dilemma: Should she expose the truth about Kelton in the name of science? Or join him in his battle with the dark forces—in the name of love?
My Review
The Light Fae Queen came to Bernadette and convinced her that dragons exist and need to be brought to the public's attention. So for over a year Bernadette has been telling people about dragons and how she has proof they exist. She's been looking into Dreagan Industries who she suspects are all dragons so she confronts Kelton, one of the owners of the business. He knows she's being used by the Fae Queen and knows that she might have proof of their existence so he opens up to her and tells her the truth about himself.
Kelton tells Bernadette everything but she knows that's only because he plans on erasing her memories before she leaves so he has no reason not to tell her the truth. I found that a little sad but I understood why she couldn't be allowed to remember anything. Dragons have been in hiding from humans for thousands of years and they know that humans would try to kill or experiment on them if they knew about them. I really liked watching Kelton and Bernadette get to know each other with no secrets between them.
Then there's the crazy Fae queen manipulating Bernadette for her own uses and the huge danger and fight that brought about in the story. There's a missing Dragon King, a crazy Fae queen who's been lying about a lot of stuff for a very long time. Kelton and Bernadette are staying together and getting closer while danger is looming just over the horizon. There were a lot of interesting secondary characters that I have more questions about and hope to see them in upcoming books but Rhi was by far the most interesting secondary character that I want to know more about and want to see again. She is going to be something else but I don't know what and I want to know what kept talking to her or who. It was strange that she kept hearing a voice but I have no idea who it was. I want to know more.
I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next because there always seemed to be something happening in this story to move it along. The ending was phenomenal and has me wanting to read the next book in this series.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
Disclosure: I was give an ARC of this book via NetGalley but all opinions and thoughts are my own.

Favorite Picture of the Week
Falcor was able to wear his new Winter sweater starting last week because the morning low was 35F.
I got a picture of him stretching his leg out behind him. He does this all the time when he's outside and I have no idea why. He's just a goofy dog.
He likes his sweater and it fits good.
This is the same sweater that I won from an Amazon giveaway a few months ago. He's happy about my win and I'm happy it fits.

Review: Kate's Crew by Jayne Rylon
Book Description
Nothing’s sexier than men with power tools.
Sultry summer heat has nothing on the five-man crew renovating the house next door. No one could blame Kate for leaning out the window for a better view of the manscape. The nasty fall that follows isn’t part of her fantasy—but the man who saves her from splattering the sidewalk is definitely the star.
When Mike personally attends to her injuries, she realizes her white knight in a hard hat has a tender side, giving her no choice but to surrender to the lust that’s been arcing between them since day one. In the aftermath of the best sex of her life, she whispers her most secret desire: to be ravaged by his crew.
She never expected Mike would dare her to take what she wants—or that the freedom to make her most decadent desires come true could be the foundation for something lasting…
Warning: This book may cause you to spontaneously combust as five hot guys bring a woman’s wildest fantasies to life during one blazing summer affair.
My Review
Kate was painting in her place while ogling the guys next door who were working on their place. As she was ogling Mike, her balance tipped on the ladder and she fell all the while Mike was watching. He ran, and jumped to catch her from falling off her roof and the other four guys ran over to congratulate him and see if Kate was alright. She hurt her leg so Mike took her to the hospital and found out that she wasn't hurt more than a few bumps and bruises.
Mike and Kate can't stop their attraction for each other and end up in bed but Kate tells him that she doesn't want a relationship so when he presses her on why she tells him that she wants the other 4 guys on his crew as well. After Mike hears her confession he has a confession himself...they all want her too. After that this story is all about whether or not she'll take them up on their offer to share her for a night ad what happens when she makes her decision. I have to say that I wasn't sure I would like this book but I think the romance and love scenes were done really well. I like the romance between Mike and Kate and how accepting and open minded all the guys are. This turned out to be a better story than I first expected it to be. All the guys are fun, open and good friends with each other which made it fun to watch them have a good time together.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #105
This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 20 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 20 years here in a weekly blog post.
This week I've been seeing these people walking by me every morning and wondered where they were going. So I walked up that way and saw them out in the parking lot between Del Taco and McDonald's, setting up a big white overhead tarp to sit under and panhandle. Ken said he's seen them in the Cal Ranch parking lot too, they keep moving every few days.
There's not a lot going on around my neighborhood right now and things have been pretty quiet but of course I still see some strange things like this guy in front pulling a red kids wagon with the tarp and poles and behind him was a guy pushing a lady in a wheel chair. Ken said he sees them over in the parking lot with signs asking for money and food and people are always giving them stuff so they seem to have found a good place to set up during the day.
We have a large homeless population here in my neighborhood and I always see them setting up tents or sleeping near the sound wall. As long as they aren't bothering me or causing problems I don't care that they're here. I do have a problem when I see them shooting up on the stairs to my apartment complex or find them passed out on drugs on the walking path where I walk the dog but that's only happened a few times.
***
The other thing that happened this week was the new manager finally made an appearance in the office. Ken told her about the homeless lady and meth addicts staying in a vacant apartment across from me and on Wednesday night she and the maintenance guy made entry into that apartment and found her in there and made her leave the apartment. Then they boarded up the broken window and told her that someone would be checking the apartment all weekend to make sure no one else goes in there so don't try to break into the apartment over the weekend. I was really glad that the drug addicts got kicked out finally. It only took the manager a little less than a week to get to it after Ken told her about it. Frankly I think it should have been done right away and they should have called the police and had her trespassed from the property because she's already back and staying with the drug dealers in my courtyard.
Here's a picture of the broken window boarded up.
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Review: The Savage King by Michelle M. Pillow
Book Description
Cat-shifting King Kirill knows he must do his royal duty by his people. When his father unexpectedly dies, it’s his destiny to take the throne and all of the responsibility that entails. What he hadn’t prepared for is the troublesome prisoner that’s now his to deal with.
Undercover Agent Ulyssa is no man’s captive. Trapped in a primitive alien forest awaiting pickup, she’s going to make the best out of a bad situation… which doesn’t include falling for the seductions of an alpha male king.
About Lords of the Var Series
The cat-shifter princes were raised to not believe in love, especially love for one woman, and they will do everything in their power to live up to their father’s expectations. Oh, how the mighty will fall.
My Review
Ulyssa is undercover on an alien planet and waiting for her people to come with a ship and pick her up. She thinks that she's gathered her intelligence and can now just wait for pick up. That is until the new King's brother finds her and brings her back to the palace thinking she's to be a part of a harem for the king.
King Kirill is appointed king right after his father unexpectedly dies. He finds Ulyssa and thinks she must have been one of his father's harem girls but he finds out she never was and he finds her interesting. So he makes her a deal, she can stay with him until she is picked up or she can live the next three months in less than desirable conditions. Of course she takes him up on his offer but it's not easy because she's not used to being under a male's orders even though she likes Kirill.
This was my first book from this author but this read like a standalone even though I found out later that it's part of a bigger story. I liked Kirill, his people and his brothers. He doesn't want war with the other half of the planet but there are others that don't readily feel the same way. The Var and the Draig are the two species on this planet and they could easily go to war so it's up to Kirill and others to make sure that doesn't happen.
The ending of this book had a good twist and ended really well. I was wondering how that storyline was going to play out and was worried for a while because of all the changes that were happening but the ending was spot on. I really enjoyed this book and that cover is so awesome.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Review: Report For Booty by Jayne Rylon
Book description
When Burke Levine got marching orders, he couldn't bear to make his girlfriend Chavon a military widow. Years later, discovering his name tattooed on her perfect ass via a New Orleans artist’s portfolio confirms his epic mistake. Will Midnight Ink’s New Year’s Eve party grant them a second chance?
My review
This was a very quick novella that starts out with Burke breaking up with Chavon before he heads off to war. He didn't want to make her wait around for him or make her a military widow so this was his ridiculous way of saving her the heartache if something happened to him. Chavon packs up right after the break up and moves away, not leaving a forwarding address. So when he comes looking for her later, she's just gone and he has no way of getting a hold of her.
Years later he has decided to get a tattoo and while looking at the portfolio of the tattoo artist he discovers his name was tattooed on a woman's backside. The tattoo artist can hardly believe that both people unknowingly came to him at different times for tattoos but he agrees to pass along Burke's info to Chavon and it's up to her what she wants to do with it.
I do like a second chance romance and while this didn't have much story to it, I did enjoy how the story unfolded and the ending was great.
I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.

Review: Beware The Darkness by Alexandra Ivy
Book Description
The enemy may have changed, but the battle between good and evil burns hotter than ever in this scintillating new installment in Alexandra Ivy’s Guardians of Eternity series.
There is only one thing more precious to vampire Tarak than his newfound freedom after five centuries of captivity, and that’s the promise of revenge. At last, he can destroy Riven, the merman who has drained his power in order to make himself king. But at the very moment when justice is a fang’s breadth away, Tarak’s quest is complicated by the beautiful mermaid princess who kept him sane and fed during his ordeal.
Waverly hoped that once Tarak escaped, he’d return to his own kind and enjoy the rest of his immortal life. She also hoped she might one day stop dreaming about the darkly handsome vampire. Instead, Tarak’s return draws Waverly into an unlikely alliance—and a passion that eclipses all her fantasies.
Hatred for Riven has sustained Tarak this long. But only Waverly’s love can give him the strength to claim eternity with her . . .
My Review
Tarak was about to tell his people something bad about their leader but before he could he's handed over to Riven and held captive for 500 years. Only Waverly came to help him get through the time in captivity and feed him her blood. But she didn't realize that by feeding him her blood, she was making Riven more powerful. Now that Tarak is no loner imprisoned, all he wants is revenge on Riven but Waverly ends up being more to him than just a way to get that revenge.
Riven was the leader of the Mer-people. He was the one that was able to use the royal trident (Tryshu) but Tarak suspected that he was only able to use it because of a spell so he and Waverly set out to prove that and get the royal trident out of his hands. While they are trying to stop Riven, they get closer and realize that they feel a lot for each other. The romance was not instantaneous but it was great. I loved seeing a very grumpy, revenge seeking Tarak become the gentle, loving, hero of this story.
I really liked a lot of the secondary characters along the way in this book as well. Inga, an ogress who helped put a spell on the cell Tarak was held in for so long was an interesting character. Styxx is the new leader of the vampires and has his hands full with tracking down Tarak and helping him but he was an interesting character as well. The huge twist that happens towards the end of this book was great! I never saw that coming but it sure put a smile on my face. I loved the ending to this story.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #104
This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life.
This week this guy in the truck pulled up Friday night at 11pm. Of course this was taken from my bedroom window. Why does everyone seem to pull up right here? We heard him out there tinkering around all night. I took the pictures Saturday morning and he's still there today (Sunday). He keeps pulling stuff out and putting it all over the sidewalk and then putting it away and pulling more stuff out. The back of this guys truck in a disaster waiting to happen. It's full and I mean full!
Here's a little closer picture. His truck is packed! Even inside the truck is packed with stuff. There's hardly enough room for him to sit in the drivers seat. If he doesn't leave by Monday morning I know the manager will tell him to leave because he keeps making a big mess on the sidewalk. I have no idea what the heck he's doing.
****
Last Monday night my daughter was getting home after coming over to my place for dinner and she law a light turn on in her apartment. She called her son's father to see if it was him since he has a spare key and it wasn't so she called the police. The police got there in 5 minutes and caught some guy ransacking her apartment. He was arrested and she's pressing charges. Her front door wasn't kicked in so the police believe the guy scaled the wall and climbed the wall to her balcony and got in that way. She didn't have her balcony door locked since she lives on the second floor she didn't think anyone could get in that way but he did. She took pictures after the police were done taking pictures and doing their investigation. They guy had unplugged both of her tv's and set them in the living room.
He went through her cabinets and tossed everything around.
He looked through all of her jewelry boxes and knocked the necklace holder on the ground next to her bed.
He didn't get away with anything and nothing was broken so she's glad about that. The police told her he had a large knife on him too so she's really glad she saw the light come on and called the police. It's not just my apartment complex that the craziness happens at.
****
Yesterday around noon I heard the police helicopter flying over. Then I heard on a speaker phone for all residents to stay in their homes.
I look out my bedroom window and there was a line of police cars on my street.
I counted 9 police cars just on my street.
They blocked off my street.
Had police standing in the street.
Put police tape across my street. The tape broke as I was taking the picture.
But the cop got it back up right after.
I was even able to get a picture of the police helicopter flying overhead. I found out afterwards that some guy in the courtyard right next to mine in my apartment complex had a handgun out and he was outside waving it around. People in that courtyard called the police and they came fast but the guy barricaded himself inside his apartment for 45 minutes before he would come out. I kept hearing the police telling him on the loudspeaker to come out with his hands up and he refused. 45 minutes later he finally came out and they got him without incident.
Now in that time I had my 6 year old grandson at my apartment while my daughter did some grocery shopping. When she was done and tried to come back to my place, the police stopped her in the alley and had her huddled behind a police car until the guy came out.
So while she was huddled down behind a police car, she took a picture of the officer standing in front of her.
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Review: Fever Claim by Marie Johnston
Book Description
Can he turn one night into forever?
After being ditched only weeks before her wedding, Cassie Stockwell wasn’t out looking for a hookup. Then the devastatingly handsome bartender she’d been trying not to obsess over for months offered to give her a ride home. What could one night hurt?

But will one night of passion keep his little human by his side once she learns of his world and the danger it brings to her doorstep?
Enter a new world of loyal shifters and their bold mates and get your copy today!
My Review
Jace is working as a bartender when he first notices Cassie coming in with her fiance. Jace knows that Cassie is his mate and waits patiently until Cassie and her fiance break things off. Cassie already had the hots for the cute bartender so when he offers to bring her home and help her forget about her ex, she agrees. The next morning is a bit awkward but to make matters worst, her best friend calls her for help and she rushes off to find her but Jace comes along with her because he knows there's more going on than Cassie realizes. Things really amp up at this point and Cassie and Jace find themselves in a lot of danger.
Poor Cassie finds out that shifters exist and that she just spent the night with one of them but she takes everything that's thrown at her really well. Jace on the other hand has a lot thrown at him as well and does his best to keep her safe, keep his emotions in check and not scare her away with the possessiveness he feels, it's not easy with everything that happens to them and there's a lot. The action was great, the storyline is wonderful and really kept me entertained, wanting to know what would happen next.
In this story most of the shifters are the good guys while the vampires are the bad guys and then there are hunters who want to kill shifters. This makes for a really dangerous world for Cassie to be thrust into but she takes it pretty well.
This is the first book in the series so we get a lot of info to set up this world which was fine with me. I thought this was a good book to start a series and I'm sure I'll be reading more of this series in the future.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Review: A Wicked Hunger by Kiersten Fay
Book Description
Her mysterious past could mean his doom…or his salvation.
Vampires run this city. Hell, they practically run the world. Despite her blurry past, Coraline knows just how dangerous they can be. All her life, she has strived to avoid them. But when her husband is murdered, and she finds herself targeted next, her survival suddenly depends on a devastatingly handsome vampire named Mason.
Assigned to investigate Coraline and her crooked husband, Mason has had to ignore his intense attraction to the little mortal female. When she bears witness to her husband’s brutal murder, and is placed under his protection, it is more imperative than ever to keep his distance, especially when he discovers she is more than just human.
My Review
Coraline had only been married to her husband for a few months but something just wasn't right between them anymore so she goes to him at work to find out if they can work things out, romantically. But she's stopped by the Vampire Enforcement Agency thinking she's another hooker for her husband. It's only after the vampires search her that they realize their mistake.
Vampires are known to humans in this world but most humans are scared of them because of what they can do so Coraline is scared when she comes face to face with the vampires. While Coraline is being searched all hell breaks loose and her husband is killed. The vampires don't know if it's a coincidence that she showed up right before someone comes to kill him but they cuff her and take her back to their headquarters. She believes they'll kill her but she's actually safer with them than without when she finds out now she's also in danger and one of the vampire officers who cuffed her is now going to keep her safe.
But they run into trouble right away, somehow the bad guys keep finding them. It's a good thing Mason is a vampire or he'd be dead already. It gets harder and harder to keep one step ahead of the bag guys who are after them but while they're on the run they start to get closer which is hard for Coraline to imagine since she doesn't trust vampires at all. But Mason shows her that all vampires aren't bad and she starts to believe him.
I loved watching Coraline gets more confident and start to flirt with Mason. Their initial flirting was so much fun to watch because they are both slowly falling for each other even though Coraline is still a little afraid of him.
When Mason and his sire find out that she's not completely human, all hell breaks loose. Trent doesn't trust Coraline at all and scares her almost to her breaking point. Mason does everything he can to explain everything to Trent but it takes a lot of time for him to believe anything, all the while poor Coraline is stuck in the middle.
I was liking this story but it ended on a cliffhanger and I do hate cliffhangers. The story had no ending at all. Everything was left wide open and I really didn't like that at all. It's hard for me to give this a star rating since I don't feel like I got an entire story.
I give this book 2 out of 5 stars.
Disclosure: I was given a free ARC via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Review: Sealed With A Curse by Cecy Robson
Book Description
Celia Wird and her three sisters are just like other twenty-something girls—with one tiny exception: They're the products of a curse that backfired and gave each of them unique powers that make them, well, a little weird…
The Wird sisters are content to avoid the local vampires, werebeasts, and witches of the Lake Tahoe region—until one of them blows up a vampire in self-defense. Everyone knows vampires aren't aggressive, and killing one is punishable by death. But soon more bloodlust-fueled attacks occur, and the community wonders if the vampires of Tahoe are plague-ridden.
Celia reluctantly agrees to help Misha, the handsome leader of an infected vampire family. But Aric, the head of the werewolf pack determined to destroy Misha's family to keep the area safe, warns Celia to stay out of the fight. Caught between two hot alphas, Celia must find a way to please everyone, save everyone, and—oh, yeah—not lose her heart to the wrong guy or die a miserable death. Because now that the evil behind the plague knows who Celia is, he's coming for her and her sisters.
This Wird girl has never had it so tough.
My Review
Celia and her three sisters all have supernatural powers but they have been trying to stay out of the supernatural world and they do a good job of it until they kill a vampire who was attacking one of their sisters. They figure it was self defense but they are called to vampire court to answer for what they did. After they're found to have done nothing wrong, the master vampire, Misha enlists their help to stop the vampires who have been infected with bloodlust and the person responsible for the bloodlust. Celia finds herself being pursued by not only Misha but also the leader of the werewolf pack, Aric.
These sisters all have unique gifts, Celia can shift into a tigress but if she's touched by another animal she will shift into that animal as well. Part of that was hilarious because it happens to her a couple of times and it was too funny. One of the other sisters can heal others which was good since Celia cannot heal herself even though she's a shifter. There was a lot of action in this book. The vampires who are infected with bloodlust are lethal, scary and crazy. They have to be killed in order to stop them so there are several action packed fight scenes.
There's some backstabbing, and a good twist that I didn't see coming towards the end. I loved this because not only do we have vampires who are not soft and cuddly, they are dark, formidable and scary. But we also have werewolves who are sexy, fun, fierce and protective. I love both vampires and werewolf shifters so this was a great surprise to find in the book. I had a great time with this one. I'll definitely be looking for the next books in this series.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #103
This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life.
There's an old water valve cover that doesn't work anymore and the cover is all broken pieces of concrete. We've told the old manager a few times that it's an accident waiting to happen because that's my living room window right there and I've watched people trip over those broken pieces and almost fall right into my window.
Here's a close up of it so you can see just how broken and dangerous this is.
You have room to walk around it but you if aren't paying attention and trip over it, you could really get hurt. I would hate for someone to fall into my window and get cut up. The new manager says she's going to fill it in with concrete but we've already been waiting years for that to happen so we'll see. The water company won't come out and fix it (I already asked) because it's not a working valve anymore. They took the valve and pipes out and moved it out front years ago.
****
She has plastic and tape in her passenger window right now.
Here's a little update about last week's Apartment Life. The crazy woman who smashed in my neighbors window also smashed the neighbors car windshield and another neighbors side window. My daughter got pictures of both cars for me to post. I have no idea if the woman has been arrested or not for all the damage she did that day.
****
This week another of my neighbors had his living room window smashed in. This one had nothing to do with the other one that happened last week, totally separate incident.
My neighbor was walking by and told me he was looking for the new manager because she said his window was going to get replaced on the Monday after it was smashed but she had already left before it was fixed and he was pissed so I asked him what happened to his window. He told me that one of his brothers who is homeless and hangs around sometimes had come pounding on his door a few nights ago and demanded $20 and got mad when he wouldn't give it to him. So later that night the homeless brother came back and smashed his window in. He saw him running away when he looked out the door. The next day my neighbor went down to the courthouse and got a restraining order so the brother can't come within 500 feet of him now. So hopefully that takes care of the problem for now.
I've seen the brother who's homeless behind the trash cans smoking meth a few times so I'm assuming that's why my neighbor doesn't have him living with him.
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Freebie Friday!
Welcome to another edition of Freebie Friday, where I tell you what free samples and full sized products I received in the mail and how you can get them too. Someone asked me why I do a "Freebie Friday" each week, so I'll tell you.
A while back I listed all the free samples and wins that I had received that previous year and so many people didn't believe that I could have gotten so many free things. So I decided to prove it by taking a picture every week and sharing the sites that I found the links to the freebies at. So now you too can get great free samples coming to your mailbox each week.
You can find links to great samples at Hey It's Free and Freebie Shark.
This week I received:
Vichy Moisturizer
Heart Stickers
Kleenex Wipes sample
Codex eye cream
Nuria eye cream, moisturizer and serum
Did you receive any freebies this week?
