Book Review: Ancient Vendetta by Katie Reus
Book Description
His responsibility is to his pack, his people—the territory of New Orleans.
When the world devolved into chaos and fire, Alpha wolf King kept his territory from collapsing. Now, every day it seems there’s a new challenge—rogue witches, treacherous vampires, evil dragons. But his biggest threat is Aurora. Unique, magical, a female who sees him, the male, and not simply the Alpha in charge. But she’s thrown up so many walls that he’s afraid he’ll never be able to break through to the woman behind them. When the most dangerous threat they’ve ever faced ravages the city he’ll need her at his side—to defeat it, and then claim the woman who already owns him, body and soul.
But she makes him want more.
After being held captive for a year, Aurora has embraced her freedom. For the first time in her life she’s living away from her older sister in a new territory. A new world. She’s made friends and is helping New Orleans get back on its feet. But she’s far from the woman she used to be. Even so, she can’t fight her ever present and growing attraction to King. Except she’s afraid she’s broken, that she’ll never be able to have a normal relationship again—that she can’t handle being an Alpha’s mate. When an evil linked to his past threatens to tear them apart and destroy the city, she must set her fears aside and find the courage to follow her heart—and the wolf who’s already won it.
Author note: Though part of a series, this book may be read as a stand-alone, complete with HEA.
My Review
King and Aurora have been dancing around their attraction for a while now and after the last book I figured they would end up together at some point. King has been giving Aurora time to adjust to being back and getting acclimated again after she had been kidnapped and held hostage for a year by a crazy dragon shifter. She's not sure she's ready for a relationship but the attraction she feels towards King is real and she's pretty sure he feels something for her too but neither of them are willing to make the first move.
King is a wolf shifter and Aurora is a phoenix shifter but King is the alpha of the territory she lives in. She helps him out when he needs it and has a lot of friends who she's close with. They are living in a broken world right now because some shifters went nuts and destroyed a lot that had been built and now shifters are in charge and trying to keep things safe for everyone including the humans.
When someone from King's past that he thought was dead makes an appearance, he has to join forces with a lot of different species but he has a lot of friends. What he wasn't expecting is for the Fae to come and ask for his help which opens up all kinds of secrets that he'll have to deal with.
There's a big battle, secrets are revealed, some truths come to light and we see what a deep love can overcome. This was truly a great addition to this series.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Book Review: Kiss Me Before I die by Rena Marks
Book Description
A love affair between a vampire and an Extinguisher is doomed from the beginning, but Afton can't resist the lure of the predator.
Extinguishers are humans deliberately infected with the vampire virus. Children from all social levels are regularly screened for exceptional athletic abilities—speed and strength. Bravery.
Females are especially rare for Extinguishers, since the female body is not prone to muscle mass. Not like a man’s.
Humans thought it appalling that children were fed the blood of a captured vampire in order to improve their performance. But they looked the other way for the greater good of destroying the growing race of evil creatures—Vampires. After all, someone has to police the stronger, more beautiful race of peoples. It was beginning to look like plain old vanilla humans were low man on the food chain and that inspired fear. Like all prejudices, after the fear followed hatred.
That had been me. I was the Queen of the Extinguishers one year previous. Now, at the tender age of twenty-five, I'm the first retired Extinguisher in existence.
I should have known it wouldn't be that easy for the government to let me go.
My Review
The government started taking children away from their parents in order to train them as Extinguishers to fight the vampires. Humans looked the other way as children were taken away, experimented on, trained and fed vampire blood in order to make them strong, strong enough to kill the vampires.
But not all vampires are bad, most just want to live in peace and have families of their own but humans are scared and thus the Extinguishes rise to kill the vampires.
Afton was the first Extinguisher, the strongest and she used to be the queen of them. But the Extinguishers are told they can retire once they reach the age of 25...if they live that long which most don't. Afton is the very first to reach her 25th birthday, something the scientists didn't think possible. But Afton is more than she seems, she has secrets, secrets the scientists who experimented on her could not figure out. She was the fastest, strongest and best Extinguisher and the scientists couldn't figure out why or how to duplicate the experiment that made her that way. But Afton, even as a child had an inclination of why she was different, not that she would ever let them know her secret though.
When the scientists couldn't figure out what made her different and couldn't make more like her, they decided to breed her but she put a stop to that right away as well. So once she was old enough to retire, she took all of her files with her, much to the chagrin of the scientists who had experimented on her.
When she meets Ethan who is a vampire, she doesn't kill him and he won't leave her alone because he loves her but she has strong feelings for him as well even though she fights them. Ethan is great and I loved him. He kept after her, he comes on strong because he knows with all the brainwashing she's had that she'll never willingly be with him even though she has feelings for him, so he pursues her.
When Extinguishers come after her, Ethan helps her and she finds herself among vampires who don't trust her but she gets to see that all vampires aren't as bad as she's been taught they are. Ethan helps her and she in turn finally sees him for the great guy he is. The secrets that surface were great, it was a slight twist as to why the scientists were never able to make another like her. I really liked the reveal. This was a different take on a vampire book and I liked it.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #285
This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.
I actually took some video of the police helicopter flying over my apartment complex during the day. So you can see a little more than a phantom light flying in the darkness. LOL
The police showed up as well and were driving around my street. Then they went into the alley for the apartment complex across the street but the tree's are so over grown over there that I couldn't get any pictures of the police walking around over there.
No one was arrested so I guess that's good? Not sure what or who they were looking for though.

Welcome to another weekly Freebie Friday post, where I tell you what free samples and full sized products I received in the mail and how you can get them too. Someone asked me why I do a "Freebie Friday" each week, so I'll tell you.

Book Review: Annihilation Road by Christine Feehan
Book Description
All paths lead to destruction in the new Torpedo Ink novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan.
Savin “Savage” Pajari is convinced he’s not worth a damn thing. He’s not like his brothers. He’s a sadistic monster, a killer—a man no woman could truly love. So it completely throws him when a stranger risks her life for his, pushing him out of the way and taking the hit that would have sent him six feet under. If he had any kind of sense, he’d leave her alone, but Savage can’t get the woman with a smart mouth and no sense of self-preservation out of his head. With one kiss, he’s lost.
Seychelle Dubois has spent her entire life not feeling much of anything, until Savage comes along and sets her whole body on fire. Kissing him was a mistake. Letting him get close would be a catastrophe. He’s the most beautiful—and damaged—man she’s ever met. He has a way of getting under her skin, and what he’s offering is too tempting to resist.
Seychelle knows so little about Savage or the dangerous world of Torpedo Ink, but his darkness draws her like a moth to a flame. Loving him could mean losing herself completely to his needs—needs she doesn’t understand but is eager to learn. But what Savage teaches her could destroy her.
My Review
Savage runs with a biker gang known as Torpedo Ink. They are in fact more like family since they all went through something very horrible as children. They have each others backs and celebrate when a member finds their one person. Savage is a killer and a sadist but he's that way because the people who kidnapped him and killed his family made him that way. He never thought he'd find a woman who would love him because he's very broken.
Seychelle has a gift that lets her heal people somewhat or at least help them live longer if they are very sick. She can also feel what they are feeling and help if they are anxious, mad, or feeling other emotions. She's a singer but there's a guy who thinks he controls where and when she can sing and she's not happy about it. So when some of the guys of Torpedo Ink ask her to sing at their club, she says she'll think about it.
Seychelle runs into Savage when she spots him trying to save a child from getting hit by a vehicle but he's not gonna make it out of the way in time until she pushes him out of the way and gets hurt herself. Savage can't believe someone risked their life for him so he goes to the hospital to see her and is instantly attracted to her which doesn't ever happen to him. He tries to leave her alone because he knows he's broken and any woman who he ends up with is going to have to deal with his demons.
They spend time together and Savage is pretty upfront with her about what he needs but she knows because she catches glimpses of what he does when the rage in him gets to be too much and he needs a release. Each member of Torpedo Ink was trained from a young age to be killers and their paranormal gifts were honed and they were trained to use them which helped them survive the hell they were put through. Now they seek out pedophiles so they can save the child victims and kill the offenders. That's what they've been doing in some of the other books. Unfortunately, all of the members are a little messed up mentally because of how they were raised and the abuse, torture, and hell they went through as children.
Seychelle has made enemies of a couple of different guys because she wasn't easily persuaded and helped a woman who was in trouble and now a couple of guys have her in their sights. So while Savage and Seychelle are getting to know each other better the club members are also keeping her safe.
This is the 6th book in the Torpedo Ink series and I have been looking forward to this book the most because Savage seems like the most broken. He's a sadist, his nick name is whip master for a reason. There are actually going to be two books just about Savage because one book couldn't do him justice and I'm looking forward to that one as well even though I have a feeling it will be more in-depth in regards to Seychelle and Savages relationship and how he's "training" her to like and accept the pain that he needs.
This book and this series isn't for everyone. The guys can be crass, rude and rough because they use a lot of bad language and can be quite graphic. Because of all these things I wasn't sure that this series was going to be for me but I just keep coming back to read each book because I've gotten to know these characters and what they've been through and how hard they've tried to put the torturous childhood they had to some use and when they find that one person they were meant to be with, it's nice to see them get a little happiness in their lives for once.
This isn't an easy read but Savage is so much more than a sadist. He's also a guy who cares a lot about his club members. We get to see what his gift is and how he's been using it without them even knowing it. After that bombshell explodes, we see why Savage is so full of rage and in need of an outlet to release it. I would definitely read this series in order otherwise you might be a little lost.
I give this book 5 out of 5 savage stars.
Disclosure: I was given an E-arc of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Apartment Life 284
This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life.
It's been getting colder at night so the police and people from the homeless shelter have been around early in the morning trying to round up the homeless people and take them to the shelters. There were 2 people living on the left hand side here where the officer if walking. There's a electrical box near the sidewalk where they had made a bed and cover. The electrical boxes have some heat coming from them and that's why the homeless make their shelters around them this time of year. The police were over there asking them if they wanted to go to the shelter but they didn't go. They just packed up their stuff and walked away. The shelter van came by soon after and the police and van moved down the street.
The police and shelter van had moved down the street a little ways to where more homeless were by another electrical box. There were at least 6 people down by this one and several of the people got in the shelter van to go to the homeless shelter.
A lot of the homeless that get in the van I see show back up around here within a week or two. They aren't allowed to do drugs at the shelter and most of the homeless that have been around here for years I see at drug dealer's apartment all the time. I think that's why most of them stay around here because they have access to drugs at drug dealer's apartment and they also feed them sometimes.
----
I walked outside and saw two female crackheads on the ground hitting each other Wednesday night.
I felt like screaming, "Let's get ready to Rumble!" lol
But they got up and walked away.
At the same time that was happening there were street 3 fire engines, an ambulance and I saw a red truck I am assuming is the fire chief's truck. One of the fire trucks had the ladder on it. Haven't seen that in a while. I didn't spot any fires so I don't know what kind of call would call for 3 fire engines.
----
My daughter was sitting outside at 1am Thursday morning when she got a short video of police at drug dealer's apartment. No idea why they were there.
The high this week was 59F/15C
The low this week was 32F/0 C
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Review: Walmart Beauty Box - December
The Walmart Beauty box is a subscription box that comes out 4 times a year. You sign up for it and it comes automatically every 3 months. They did increase the price of the box a little bit. So instead of $5 it's just a couple of dollars more. These boxes are free and you just pay for tax for shipping, mine came to $7.48.
What was in the box?
What was in the box?
Liquid I.V. liquid hydration powder mix.
Sukin Signature Hydrating Mist Toner.
Garnier Retinol Smoothing Serum Cream.
Hempz Original Herbal Body Moisturizer.
Lottie London Retractable brow pencil.
NYX Lip Lingerie Gloss.
Soap & Glory Hand Food.
I didn't care for the drink mix. It didn't taste too good.
I did like all the makeup products and the mist toner because it smells good. And I can always use another lip gloss and moisturizer. The lotion smells good too and I can always use that. So there was just one thing in this months box that I didn't care for and that was the drink mix.
Not bad for the price I paid.
Did you get this box?

Favorite Picture of the Week
So now that I have to take pictures with my phone since my camera is old and isn't compatible with laptops with windows 10. It's only compatible with windows 7, 8 and XP. So I took a few pictures and they are alright. They'll do for now but it looks like I'll have to get a camera as well. Falcor was just sniffing everything.
So this week I'm sharing pictures I took with my phone. We had some fixing of the cracks in the road this week so they put out signs on the street to let us know there was something going on.
Falcor spotted another dog.
But quickly lost interest.
So I found that I can take pictures during the day as long as there's adequate sunlight. Pictures at night or inside my apartment are very dark and come out bad. So hopefully things only happen during the day. lol
I can also edit pictures on my laptop once I have them downloaded. So that's something.

Laptops, Bookmarks and Blogs
So last Monday my laptop decided to stop working. I tried everything and it won't even restart now, I just get a blue screen. My daughter had an old laptop that my grandson stepped on a few years ago and so it now has a black spot on the screen but at least it works for now. My daughter said she's going to buy me a new laptop when she gets her taxes back. What a sweet kid she is.
So I've been working on getting some of my bookmarks back like all of the blogs I visit. So I went through all of the comments for the past month and bookmarked all the blogs that left a comment in the past month. I think I have everyone bookmarked again but if I haven't commented on your blog in the past week let me know in the comments so I can visit and bookmark you.

This tweaker lives in my neighborhood somewhere and sometimes she just starts yelling for no apparent reason like this night. She was out of video shot so I didn't try to make it less fuzzy. This is just an audio of what she was doing.
---
I heard the police helicopter flying overhead and looked out my bedroom window and spotted a police car around the corner. The police stopped that guy in the hoodie and talked to him for a few minutes and then let him go. Then the police got out of the car and walked into the apartments they were near and talked to a few people over there.
Then they got back in their car and left.
----
On Thursday morning at 1:30am I was woke up from two gunshots and they sounded close by. I got up after laying in bed for a minute to make sure that I wasn't gonna get a stray bullet through the wall or my bedroom window and checked on my daughter. Then I looked outside but didn't see anyone around and no one was screaming so I figured that some idiot shot off a couple into the sky. The police didn't show up so I guess no one called. I didn't see any bullet holes the next morning so I assume I was right about someone shooting into the air.

The high this week was 60F/15C
The low this week was 32F/0 C
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Favorite Song of the Week
So here's another one of my favorite songs.
Tarot- Pyre of Gods
The lead singer, Marko Hietala was also the bassist and singer from Nightwish for 20 years but retired not long ago. I was sad to see he and Tarja Turunen both leave Nightwish since I really enjoyed the band more when they were a part of it. But this song really shows off Marko's vocals.
Have you listened to Tarot or Nightwish?
