Apartment Life #262
This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 23 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 23 years here in a weekly blog post.
Since I had so many comments about the window locks last week I thought I would share something that makes window locks even safer.
This is the kind of window lock that I use. You twist the screw down and the end tightens down against the window frame preventing anyone from sliding the window open any more. In the Winter time I do keep the bedroom window open about 5 inches to get some cool air. Forgive my fingernails. I took my fake nails off and was letting my nails breathe.
Ken was a maintenance man and he drilled little holes into the metal window frame that the screw end fits into when you tighten it down. I removed the window lock so you can see the holes he drilled there. There's a couple of different holes so I can open the window 4-5 inches depending how much I want it open. This makes the window lock even safer since the window really won't be opening any more than where I put it by doing this even if they push it really hard.
And if someone smashes my window, I have an ax and now a taser. I know how to swing the hell out of this ax too. I lived in West Virginia for a year and we only had a wood stove for cooking and heating. I cut a lot of wood that year. This ax is made from one long piece of solid metal with a rubber coating over the handle. Yeah, it's rusty and old and hell but if I swing this at your head, you're gonna feel it. lol
But I've been here a long time and haven't ever had this kind of problem. Falcor will bark his head off if he hears something too, alerting me that something is going on. He's half Chihuahua so barking is in his blood.
----
Falcor woke me up at 4am on Monday because he had to go out. I open my door to go outside and Jessica is walking by and she stops right in front of me and is like, "Hey". So I said hi and she's just standing there in front of me. I'm thinking, "Bitch, you better move." And I just keep walking out as Falcor starts barking at her.
She backs up and I come out and walk past her and she plops her skinny ass in one of the chairs by my door. I'm staring at her that's when Mikey walks up and stands right in front of her. He starts yelling at her, "Come on, we need to go."
She says to me, "Can you call the cops for me, I think he's gonna hurt me."
Now if you've been reading my Sunday posts you know she has been doing this for years. She's the one that hits him and then asks people to call the cops so she can try and get him in trouble. I've seen her do it. He's just standing there and they start to argue.
Jessica: "You're not a man, Mikey. You're a little boy. You're not a man"
Mikey: "Come on, we gotta go"
They're getting loud so I walk the 10ft back to my door and stand in front of him.
Me: "Look, you're being too loud and my daughter is asleep. You need to get away from my door." I said to Mikey.
He doesn't look at me or acknowledge me at all.
Jessica: "Yeah, you need to leave." She says sarcastically to Mikey.
Before I can say anything else Jessica gets up and walks away down the courtyard yelling, "Mikey, you're not a man. You're not a man, Mikey!"
Walking by people's doors screaming. I'm sure she woke a few people up.
Good grief.
----
And I shared a video of two people having a little argument to FB. I made it public so anyone can see it. Blogger wouldn't let me upload it here because they said the file was too big even though it's a really short video. I don't know why. What made the video funny was her getting so mad she smashes her drink down on the sidewalk. You can find the video here.
----
And, my daughter was waiting at the bus stop and was listening to music on her phone and this lady at the bus stop thought she was recording her so she started calling my daughter names so my daughter started recording her. Warning there's some bad language but the video is gold. My daughter shared it on FB. You can find it here.

An axe! Well it is needed
ReplyDeleteHopefully I'll never need to use it.
DeleteI am terrified just reading this! Very scary situations out there! I am so glad I live in such a peaceful place, I don't have to know how to use an ax :P Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I will try to.
DeleteNever a dull moment with the Human Sideshow. The Axe is a nice Touch... give da Vegas Hood a nice lil West Virginia Hillbilly Justice. Stay Safe, don't confront the Tweakers, they can pop off into Psycholand way too easily.
ReplyDeleteMost of them just walk around in a haze.
DeleteThat is a shockingly high temperature.
ReplyDeleteAnd a huge sigh at your neighbours. Just what you don't need.
It was an insane week. it's been quite hot ehre.
DeleteYou are ready to kick ass! Know what D&D character you'd be.
ReplyDeleteIn your neighborhood, I'd tell Falcor he has to wait until dawn.
I hope I will never need to use it.
DeleteHi, Mary!
ReplyDeleteSeems you and Lizzie had an unusually quiet and uneventful week out there in Lost Wages, dear friend! :) You even experienced a nice cold snap with the mercury plunging to 105. :) Holy smoke - if I lived in your neighborhood I'd be locking my windows extra tight, too, and probably taking that ax with me everywhere I went. It's reassuring to know that Falcor is a scrappy barker, because the sound of a barking dog tends to make bad guys think twice about trying to bust in. To me, it's sad there are so many angry people who need to pick fights with others to feel better. The Karen in Lizzie's vid seems paranoid and delusional. The antics of Jessica and Mikey are funny to read about over here on this side of the screen; but for you, on your side of the screen, having to deal with them up-close and personal, they are surely disconcerting and frustrating. A rule of thumb states that nothing good ever happens out on the street after midnight (especially at 4 am), and their loud, petty arguments when people are trying to sleep lend credence. Perhaps you could have calmed them down by inviting them into your pad for a few snorts of John Barleycorn. :) Tell Falcor that from now on he needs to "hold it" at least until daybreak. :)
Have a safe and happy week, dear friend Mary!
It was definitely an interesting week. My daughter has been sharing her video all over the place. It's the first time she's been confronted like that.
Delete4 am? Do these people ever sleep? It’s a lot to put up with, Mary. Glad you got a taser along with that axe.
ReplyDeleteThere are a few people like Married guy that are up all night. He does coke so he never sleeps. Mikey and Jessica do meth so they are up all night too.
DeleteI'm glad you have means to keep yourself safe, especially considering where you live. I hope you don't have to use that axe though 😱. But probably, swinging it would be enough LOL. (And now I'm picturing you like an older and brunette version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer 😂).
ReplyDeleteLOL Off with their heads. Could you imagine if I had to call the police after a break in to report I lopped someone's head off?
DeleteI'm glad to see you have some protection and know how to use it. Who knows what some of the freaks around there might try to do!
ReplyDeleteI haven't had a problem yet and a lot of the bad people have moved away so hopefully I won't ever have to confront anyone.
DeleteThose are nifty little window locks. We just have lockable handles on our windows.
ReplyDeleteWhat a crude insult "You're not a man, Mikey, you're a little boy." A weird relationship for sure.
They have the weirdest relationship. They are always fighting.
DeleteWow! that ax reminded me of a horror movie and I had to make sure I was on the right page, lol. I don't know how to use a tazer, but after watching the news I'm guessing its better for one to train themselves than assume.
ReplyDeleteThe tazer I got is just turn it on, push the trigger and put it on someone's skin. If someone is that close they are going to get a shock.
DeleteHey, I recognize that type of safety lock. We had those on the house where I grew up in Sacramento. They are handy if you want to lock the window partially open. LOL, and yes, that ax is great if you catch someone trying to get in through a window. I always had a wooden baseball bat handy after someone slit my screen and warped my window frame in an aborted break in.
ReplyDeleteYour angry person video was even more funny muted because her body language was classic. Sometimes I have no idea what someone is doing on their phone, but I find there is usually the opposite problem of someone interested in me. ;)
Crazy week. Stay cool, lady!
My poor daughter was just trying to ignore everyone and listen to some music. lol The window locks are really nice to have.
DeleteWell, this week more than made up for last week's "slow" week. LOL. That axe is badass. I myself keep a katana in the bedroom. Two, actually. One is dull blade for cosplay events, the other is strictly business sharp.
ReplyDeleteOk, now I can picture you singing that katana around if anyone breaks into your place. This week was craziness all around.
DeleteEven 'normal' neighbors can sometimes get weird and dangerous, especially in times of economic recession,so people should always be aware of their safety and take precautions.
ReplyDeleteVery true.
DeleteYou should probably walk occasionally through da block with that axe, just to scare off everyone who would even think to mess with you LOL
ReplyDeleteLOL That's a good idea but I really don't want to end up in jail or in the mental hospital.
DeleteI think pepper spray/gel would be a good addition to your arsenal. You don't have to get as close to the offender to use it and I have one that has a strap that I always run with. So many crazy people out there! Thank goodness for Falcor and his Chihuahua genes, and for knowing how to use an axe, lol! :)
ReplyDeleteThe tazer came with pepper spray but I gave it to my daughter to put in her purse since she walks to work.
Delete"I know how to swing the hell out of this ax too" Ha that's a good skill to have. :) Seriously though, you never can be too safe. Those window locks seem like a great idea.
ReplyDeleteWow Jessica's a piece of work!
I gotta watch those videos now. :) Be safe this week! .
Thank you. I can swing that ax if I have to. lol
DeleteJessica is such a piece of work. I wish for your sake she and Mikey would move far away!
ReplyDeleteShe's been around here for years. I don't think she's going anywhere unless the drug dealers move away.
DeleteOh good grief for sure! Our Mom and Dad are from West Virginia and they can swing an ax too.
ReplyDeleteLOL I love it!
DeleteWe have similar window locks as well. Sometimes you want the window opened a bit for a breeze, so they're great for that!
ReplyDeleteNicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction
Yes they are.
DeleteI love the window locks, your neighbors, not so much.
ReplyDeleteI don't like my neighbors either. Lol
DeleteI hope none of us have to use home defence.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
I how not either.
DeleteThat axe looks pretty handy! I hope you never have to use it. 😛
ReplyDeleteI hope I don't either.
DeleteYet another reason we're done with apartment life. We used to have those very locks when we lived at an older property. Old school, but very effective! That axe does look like it'd make an awesome impression in someone's head if needed.
ReplyDeleteA pretty big impression.
DeleteI didn't know you lived in WV for a year! Whereabouts did you live?
ReplyDeleteI lived in a little town called, Guyandotte.
DeleteUgh. People are weird.
ReplyDeleteAnd I've used those window locks before!
They work great.
DeleteYour neighbors are cray cray!
ReplyDeleteThey are definitely that.
