Apartment Life #310

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.

Last week I told you about people crawling into the drainage tunnel. I thought I would post an article I read a while back about the tunnels under Las Vegas. This way you can see some of the tunnels I was talking about. It's not just the sewer tunnels but also the wash tunnels that were built to catch the water when we get flash floods and tunnel it away from the streets that used to get super flooded before we had the wash tunnels.

----

Wednesday morning around 6am, I was walking Falcor and spotted this gun on the garbage can. I didn't touch it but it sure looked real enough. I went back out just a little while later to bring it in and call the cops but it was already gone. I wanted to get a plastic bag to wrap it in so I wouldn't touch it but it was gone.

---

I found out that drug dealer is in jail and will be there until at least August. I didn't see the arrest but one of my neighbors told me it happened. You may remember this post from a month ago where drug dealer's apartment was raided. I found out that one of the druggies that drug dealer was messing around with went to jail and she got mad when drug dealer wouldn't bail her out so she snitched on him and told police that he had a bunch of drugs in his apartment. I was wrong to assume that they didn't find any drugs that night because they did but they didn't make an arrest until recently. That's what drug dealer is in jail for right now.

My neighbor who is friends with drug dealer's wife told me that the wife has let 4 druggies move into the apartment with her while her husband is in jail. One of the guys that she let move in is a guy she's fooling around with. Sure sounds like they have a good marriage *eye/roll* since each of them are messing around with other people. So there has been a crap ton of traffic down at that apartment. I walked by yesterday and could see 8 people *all druggies* sitting on the floor in the living room. With that many people coming and going from there I just know there's going to be some trouble breaking out at some point so I'm watching for it.

The high this week was 105F/40C
The low this week was 77F/25C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

  1. Guns definitely don't make us safer

  2. Sigh. that does indeed sound like trouble waiting to happen. And I agree with Adam.

  3. Hi, Mary!

I see that you experienced a brutal cold snap in Vegas this week, with the daytime high temp reaching only 105. :)

I clicked the link and read that article about Paul V. It was fascinating. Some of those tunnel "apartments" looked pretty cozy, but that meager comfort is offset by the perpetual darkness, the foul smell, the danger of potentially violent transients constantly coming and going, the drug use, and the ever-present danger of being swept away by water from flash floods. Even so, I suppose living in a tunnel is better than being out on the street exposed to searing heat and winter cold, passing-out on public sidewalks and sleeping in cartons, doorways or on the floor of a drug dealer's apartment. I'm happy to learn that your friendly neighborhood dealer was finally arrested, but the assortment of characters that now occupy the unit is indeed a volatile mix. As you noted, it's just a matter of time.

It doesn't promote peace of mind to discover a gun on a trash can on your block and later find that it had been claimed by someone.

Take care of yourself, your daughter and my buddy Falcor and have a safe and happy week, dear friend Mary!

    1. I'm glad you found the article interesting. I'm sir or had to say least be cooler in the tunnels in the Summer. But as you noted, it's dangerous. I'm watching to see if any fights break out down there.

  4. Never touch the gun - just call cops immediately.
Shame they can't come back and bust everyone in that apartment.

    1. I would have called the cops while I was our there but I couldn't keep Falcor out yet in 100 degree weather while I waited for them. When I've called flood other non emergency things they've taken over an hour to get here. So I wanted to get a bag but it was already gone.

  6. It is never good to find a gun just laying around like that. That apartment full of drug users sounds like it is going to be a big problem before long.

  7. As a rule, guns and knives (killing weapons). are to be immediately reported. In your appartement, though, nothing seems to be of any urgency.

  8. I'm not surprised about the drainage tunnel after reading Donna Tartt's novel, The Goldfinch and the homeless in sewers under Vegas. Glad you are creating awareness.

  9. That was an interesting story about the tunnels in Las Vegas. That guy Vautrinot needs to be nominated for next year's Hero of the Year. Nothing much seems to have changed with drug dealer's arrest. I would have been afraid to touch that gun. Could have been a trap, but cool that you got a photo.

  15. That article was really interesting. A network of tunnels beneath Vegas has all kinds of cool story ideas- reminds me of the Morlocks under NYC from X-Men- but that article also shows that these are real people down there.

Yeah that place down the way sounds like trouble. Be safe and I hope nothing bad happens down there...

  16. Wow- always so much going on in your apartment and neighborhood. The apartment with all the people in it does sound like there could be trouble. Definitely keep an eye out. Crazy to see a gun out in the open like that. Glad you didn't touch it. And the tunnels- so intriguing. Thanks for sharing! :) ~Jess

  21. Oh wow - here I was thinking that with drug dealer in jail, things would be quiet, but it sounds like it is worse. ugh! The gun thing is scary. I hope it isn't in the hands of a kid or someone dangerous.

    1. I know a lot of my neighbors have guns because this is an open carry state and they will just carry them in a holster on their belt. It was probably one of the druggies or homeless people that got it.
