Favorite Picture of the Week
Have you ever used silicone ice cube trays?
I can't be the only one who's had a problem with them. Yes they work well but there's a weird white film on the ice when you use these. There's a weird smell and the ice takes on a weird taste as well. It doesn't happen with my plastic ice trays. I washed the trays, boiled them, washed after each use and the white film always came back. I ended up just throwing them away because it's just not worth the hassle it caused and the plastic ice trays don't cause a weird smell.
I love my silicone cooking utensils like the spoons and spatula and they don't get a weird white film on them so it must be something about putting them in the freezer. I don't know but it was weird.

Love them, very useful:)
ReplyDeleteYeah but they smell weird.
DeleteBest to chuck em indeed.
ReplyDeleteI sure did.
DeleteI have never used them, and based on this review will never use them. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. lol
DeleteGood idea to chuck them - that's really disgusting. Never used them as we have a fridge with an ice maker.
ReplyDeleteOh that's very useful.
DeleteI used one once, and it definitely smelled different, making me not use the ice.(lol) Hugs, RO
ReplyDeleteWell at least it wasn't just me. lol
DeleteThat is weird! I did throw away some I used to bake with, it was a tray, I did not like it.
ReplyDeleteI have some of the cupcake trays and don't care for the silicone ones at all. They aren't easy to get the cupcakes out of.
DeleteEw. I've never used ice trays but now for sure I'm staying away from them.
ReplyDeleteYeah I wouldn't use the silicone ones.
DeleteI have never had any of those, but I'm glad you told us about this. Did the actual trays have the same weird odor?
ReplyDeleteYeah they did after they were put n the freezer.
DeleteI've got both plastic and silicone ice trays, but don't usually use the cubes in drinks. I keep the ice in case of some emergency (like swelling of tissue..).
ReplyDeleteWe use a lot of ice cubes for iced tea here in the summer.
DeleteI confess that I use the ones where you add water in a plastic bag. It's just that you can't use it again.
ReplyDeleteOk, now I'm intrigued because I have no idea what that is. *Goes to Google it.* lol
DeleteNever used silicone before.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on
I wouldn't again.
DeleteWe have some metal ones that we found in a charity shop.
ReplyDeleteI remember the metal ones.
DeleteI've not used the silicone ones, just the plastic or, years ago, the light metal. I don't blame you for chucking them when you were having the film and the weird taste.
ReplyDeleteI remember those metal ones. I like the plastic ones the best.
DeleteThat sounds pretty creepy!
ReplyDeleteit wasn't good.
DeleteI actually need to buy some ice trays. I think I will stay away from the silicone ones.
ReplyDeleteI would.
DeleteI have never used silicone ice cube molds, we buy a big bag of ice cubes ready frozen …
ReplyDeleteI use silicone molds for baking and they are fine.
All the best Jan
I've used the baking silicone molds and don't like them as much as the metal pans.
DeleteI had them in the past and don't think there was issues... I now have one of those fridge/freezers that dispenses ice, cubed or crushed, at the push of a leaver so I got rid of them and can't even check. :/
ReplyDeleteOh that would be nice. Our apartment complex buys the cheapest refrigerators they can. So no ice maker for me. lol
DeleteI've never used them, but they don't sound fun.
ReplyDeleteYeah it wasn't fun.
DeleteNever used them, but if they give off a weird smell and taste, I'd trash them.
ReplyDeleteYeah I did.
