This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 27 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 27 years here in a weekly blog post.
Last week I had a package go missing, probably because the building numbers were not on the buildings because they are still painting. Delivery people were having trouble finding the addresses, even the Constable asked me where an apartment was when he came to put up 7 days pay or quit notices. So, I wrote to management and they said they would put up temporary building numbers. They did.
But it got windy and the temporary signs fell off the buildings. So, they put the signs on the gates to the courtyards. They are staying there at least.

There was a guy parked on the sidewalk path that I take Falcor for a walk on. He stayed parked there for 6 hours. One time I walked past his car and he was, pleasuring himself. I walked the other way until he was gone. The next morning, I saw this right next to where he had been parked. I think we can all guess what the white powder was inside it. I threw it away. I didn't want a kid picking it up.

Friday morning the police were down by the McDonald's next door to me and had stopped all the homeless people who stand next to the drive through asking for food. People in the drive through complain all the time and the police get called on the same people all the time. They left for a little while but were right back at the drive through a few hours later begging again.
The high this week was 86F/30C
The low this week was 51F/10C

You might want to put your own number sign on your door until the proper numbers are fixed. That way at least you'll get your own mail.

Throwing away the drugs was a good move, but I hope you washed you hands thoroughly. You wouldn't want some residue to be detected and the cops to think you had been handling drugs yourself.
I thought about that. I do have my apartment number on my door. Oh, I did wash my hands.
DeleteIt seems the excitement in your neighborhood never ends. I must say I would probably quit going through the drive-in restaurant if I had people begging all the time as I was in line to pick up my lunch.

ReplyDeleteTo me as a semi-logtime observer, it seems like your words carry greater weight and authority lately when you contact management and report problems in your unit and in your apartment community. They listen and respond, even if the action taken is sometimes insufficient. It's creepy that you needed to walk my buddy Falcor past a guy parked along your route doing drugs and playing with his ding-a-ling. I never heard of homeless people hanging out at fast food drive-thru windows. It stands to reason that if one of them was successful in getting a handout on even one occasion, the word spread and now they all gather there to beg. It's a sad state of affairs.

DeleteI would not have picked up the bag. I think you are a very kind person to think of kids possibly finding the bag. I hope the signs get permanently replaced soon.
ReplyDeleteI know it wasn't my best move but there are a lot of dogs that walk right there and I wouldn't want one of them to eat the bag and die. Or a kid to get it. I've picked up syringes and trashed them too. Too many kids around here.

DeleteYou did your good deed by picking up the envelope with powder and tossing it. I hope there's not a next time, but if it happens again is there a safe drug drop off place nearby that you can take things to so someone can't accidentally find it in your trash?

DeleteIt's a shame the homeless people have to keep pestering customers at the drive through. There must be somewhere else they can get food without causing complaints?
ReplyDeleteThere are places like the shelters, churches ect. But they can't do their drugs there so they don't go.
DeleteGood job on the envelope with the white powder. definitely some child could’ve picked up and started playing with it or worse. seems to me that this new management is a little bit more responsive. I hope those temporary numbers stay up until they are finished with the work. A sad situation with the homeless people; only seems these things are getting worse. DeleteWell, good for the management being responsive again. They may not have taste in their building painting colors, but they seem to follow through.

DeleteMaybe you should carry some disposable gloves on your dog-walking excursions. Kind of horrifying to touch anything like that for multiple reasons.
ReplyDeleteFor everything the new management is getting right, it sounds like they're doing other things that are just perplexing. Not having address numbers is a very large safety issue.
I know. I thought of that too. I'm taking an extra poo bag with me in case I need to pick something else up.
DeleteDelivery people not able to find the right units? Now, that sounds like where I live. We have signs posted, but the numbering system is so screwy, no one can find anything. At least the numbers are staying on the gates.

DeleteI feel bad that people are hungry but I am uncomfortable too when they hang around a Drive Thru or a Restaurant accosting people, some get very aggressive and many are quite unstable. It's bad for business if customers don't feel Safe and don't want to be confronted by Panhandlers. Not having the Numbers on Apartments is a safety issue, if there were an emergency the responders might not be able to find the appropriate location either.

DeleteAn ambulance had a hard time finding an address and started knocking on doors to find the apartment.
Good thing you have the place numbers now even though temporary at least delivery and other personal can find people in the apartments. That isn't the best when driving through Maccas as we call Mc.Donalds to have people begging for food, put one off from going there, well it would me...but if I too wanted to each I'd have to put up with it :)

Deletea while back we had a package delivered to the same address but the wrong town, not my fault but golly it took a while to straighten out!
