This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 28 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 28 years here in a weekly blog post.
*Life Update*
I have some good news and some not so good news to share. After my daughter had 2 different mammograms, the doctor said it's not cancer. Just some fibrous tissue. But they are having her come back in 6 months for another mammogram just to make sure nothing has grown.
My grandson has been diagnosed with POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) He's been almost fainting and getting really dizzy so they took him to the doctor. He also has hyperlordosis which is an inward curvature of the spine and he has to see a specialist to see what can be done for that.
The doctors office referral department still hasn't called my daughter with a referral for pain management or a new cardiologist. Good thing the infusions are working and she's not having much pain now. She even did their job and found the pain management that her insurance would take and gave them the address, phone number everything. But they still haven't called her. And they don't answer the phone when you try to call the referral department. So crazy. She sees that doctor in a week and I told her to raise hell about the referrals because that's ridiculous.

I was taking Falcor out and saw this police car sitting on the corner of the street across the street. Not sure if he had just come from somewhere over there or if he was running the plates on the car in front of him. While I was outside (5 minutes) he drove off. I take Falcor for quick 5 minute potty breaks right here when it's really hot out like it is right now.

On Thursday, the police helicopter was flying right over my apartment complex and over the other side of the sound wall so I went outside to see if any police were outside. There were none. I took a short video of the police helicopter flying around.
Later that day my neighbor came over and told us that right around the cover from us, less than a block away on the other side of the soundwall the police were all over the street, had the street blocked off and had the police tape up.
I found out the next day on the Nextdoor App...
A lady had been selling flowers on the corner and some guy tried to rob her. A good Samaritan stopped his car and got out to help her and the robber shot him. The good Samaritan got back in his car and tried to drive off but crashed his car into a tree. Police said he later died at the hospital. Here's the news story about it.

Yesterday *Saturday* I noticed police at the end of my street and there was crime scene tape going from the upstairs all the way to the bottom stairs. I don't know if I got out there after everything happened, but I didn't see any ambulance or coroner, or anything pull up.
The 3 police cars that were down there, stayed down there for quite a while though. I still have no idea what happened.
The high this week was 115F/46C
The low this week was 88F/31C

I used to know a young person who had POTS. It was almost cripplingly bad during her whole teenagerhood, but pretty much went away in her twenties. She is now about thirty and completely normal as far as I know. So sometimes it does just spontaneously resolve.
ReplyDeleteI suppose you've thought of calling the doctor directly and telling her her referral department isn't doing its job? At least thank goodness the pain has improved.
I hope it does go away for him too.

Well that more than takes care of The Quiet week you had last week! Murder no less. Sorry that your grandson is going through this. It never seems fair when young people are sick.

And your daughter should call her doctor tomorrow and raise hell about the referrals! Don't wait any longer.
Calling the doctors office does nothing, all they do is transfer her to the referral department and they never answer or return phone calls.

DeleteGosh, your grandson is too young to have to deal with all that stuff. I hope the doctors can recommend ways to get around his POTS, and that his spine can be fixed without him having to undergo an intervention...maybe with an orthopedic corset.

That robbing story is so tragic. That poor man and his family. I hope the culprit rots in prison, but that's wishful thinking, I'm afraid...

DeleteThat is a good and bad news situation. Your poor grandson. I hope they can help him out. And that is scary about the homicide. It's sad when we live in a world where you try to help someone and end up dying from it. And we don't have a gun problem in this country. Right. I hope your new week is a better one.

DeleteI hope your grandson's condition can be managed so it won't affect his life too much. Your daughter must be relieved about the mammogram results but yes, how frustrating that no pain management referral has come yet!

DeleteSorry to hear about your grandson’s diagnosis.i first heard of POTs about three months ago at an improv gathering from a guest who had it. It’s so hard hearing anything related to kids an ailments.i wish him all the good days ahead on his journey

DeleteOver the years I've had fibrous breast tissue issues several times. The first time I had to go back for a second mammogram I was so frightened it might be cancer, but now when it happens I don't worry about it.

DeleteNo idea if this is helpful, but I started calling around at Providence after the shit show in the ER that happened to me. The old saying about shit rolling down hill applies here. I wrote up everything, including the goddamn BLOOD SPATTERS that had not been cleaned off the wall in the room they left me in for two hours. I sent that letter to everyone I could find that had any connection to admin.

I'm so sorry they're putting her off. The people in the medical profession are mostly decent, I think, but they become hard hearted and stop thinking of the people they see as human and just move them all down the assembly line.
Thank you. I've told her to find a different doctor but she likes the doctor, it's the referral department which the doctor has nothing to do with that's the problem.

As for what my friend calls Medical Stupid - it is so frustrating fighting with dr's offices or medical insurance (my husband is having an issue himself right now-what a broken system we have) I wish your daughter and you success. ReplyDeleteAlthough of course I am sad about the crime that happens in many parts of the world, I like to see what police cars (and other vehicles...such as buses, trains, etc.) look like in different area. A police helicopter? My goodness, Mary! Bless your heart!

ReplyDeleteOur healthcare system is so broken. Of course the referrals don't answer as they have no referrals to give, nor do the doctors have any open appointments. I'm glad your daughter's not in terrible pain now, at least.

phew on the mammo!! I'm sorry your grandson was diagnosed with POTS but now he knows what he is dealing with. It breaks my heart to read the hoops your daughter has to go thru to get medical care, it's a broken system. it took me four years to get the immunosuppressant I am on right now, and that is with firing two of my doctors and finding new ones. It should not be this hard.
