Book Review: Rescued by Qaiyaan by Tamsin Ley

Book Description

Humans are too fragile to withstand the mating bond of his species.

An evil corporation ruthlessly destroyed Qaiyaan’s home planet and left his species without females. Now he and his crew prowl the stars in search of revenge. When they rescue a beautiful human female from her cryogenic slumber, she awakens primal urges in Qaiyaan’s soul he never thought he’d feel again.

Protect.
Mate.
Love.

But claiming Lisa isn’t an option. His embrace would be fatal, the powerful connection of his kind too intense for a human to endure. Yet despite the danger, their forbidden urges grow stronger with each passionate glance, each inadvertent brush of skin, until Qaiyaan begins to suspect that Lisa is not what she seems.

Then he discovers she carries a secret that could change the fate of his people forever—if she can survive the process…

Reader Promise: Steamy love scenes, superhero aliens, and heart-pounding action with a guaranteed HEA and no cliffhangers. Intended for mature audiences.

My Review

Qaiyaan and his crew think they struck gold when they find an abandoned ship and start to load a bunch of the contents onto their ship to sell for some money. But they have to work quickly as another ship from the syndicate comes and destroys the abandoned ship. They are able to get out of there with what they gathered but they didn't realize they have taken a cryo unit with a human female inside. Now they don't know what to do about her.

Lisa and her brother were both experimented on and she's being used as a pawn to keep her brother doing what the syndicate wants him to. The syndicate would have killed her if Qaiyaan and his crew hadn't taken her cryo unit off the ship. Now she doesn't know what to believe.

Lisa has some gifts because of the experiments she endured and because of that she might be able to mate with Qaiyaan without him killing her. There was a lot of her sulking because she thinks her brother's gifts are better/stronger than hers are. While the trope of the last surviving members of a dying race with no females, go looking for human females to mate with a repopulate their species is used quite often in alien romances, the fact that he can kill her during the mating process if they aren't in sync is a bit different and made for an interesting plot.

I do think Lisa should have been a bit more honest with him and his crew about herself when she woke up and found that they saved her from being blown up along with the ship she was on. But secrets always have a way of surfacing.

I was hoping for a bit more once she was able to connect with her brother, but it was a fun read.

I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.

  3. POV: This sounds like an interesting sci-fi romance! I enjoy stories involving aliens, spaceships, and adventures in outer space. The plot sounds quite unusual, especially the danger involved in the mating bond.

I look forward to reading more of your reviews next time

  5. Thanks for the honest review, Mary. Lisa keeping her secret from the crew right after they saved her does sound like a recipe for trouble. A fun read is a fine reason for 3 stars.

  9. As long as it's a fun book - this seems like a little too grim for me right now. But on the other hand, I'm making my way through Ann Aguirre's Grimspace series, and that has lots of grim. Maybe one day. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

  13. Yes, that being in sync thing is a different twist. The keeping secrets thing is annoying to me, but I'm glad it was an overall fun one for you.
