Review: Hell On Wheels by Julie Ann Walker
Book Description
Black Knights Inc.―Behind the facade of their tricked–out motorcycle shop is an elite special ops team assigned the jobs too hot for anyone else to handle.
Hold On Tight...
Ex–Marine Nate "Ghost" Weller is an expert at keeping his cool―and his distance―which makes him one hell of a sniper. It's also how he keeps his feelings for Ali Morgan in check. Sweet, sexy Ali has always revved his engine, but she's his best friend's baby sister...and totally off limits.
Rough Road Ahead
Ali's never seen anything sexier than Nate Weller straddling his custom Harley―or the flash of danger in his eyes when she tells him she's in trouble. First something happened to her brother, and now she's become the target of a nasty international organization. With Nate, her life is in the most capable hands possible―but her heart is another story altogether.
My Review
Nate and Ali's brother go on a mission, only Nate made it home alive. He goes to tell Ali and her parents about Grigg and Ali finds herself once again falling for Nate, whom she's been attracted to for a long time. Nate has always had a thing for Ali but he made a promise to her brother that he would keep his hands off her. So he pushed her away even though they both had feeling for each other. Ali goes to him when she thinks that she has a stalker and it turns out she's right. Someone is after her but she has no idea why.
There's so much going on in this book and so many characters to keep track of and I found that distracting. Ali's stalker was the only real interesting part about this story because Ali and Nate are just not likable characters. I had problems with both of them for different reasons. I usually like a broody character but Nate is more than broody and his personality got on my nerves. Ali is so naive and proper and just didn't fit with the kind of guy that Nate is.
This story is very graphic also and in some cases it seemed that the graphic nature of the story was for shock value and didn't really add to the story at all. While this book did start out slow it did pick up towards the end and the story line was interesting but I'm not sure if I would continue with this series.
I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.

It sounds as if your three star rating was on the generous side. I find it hard to connect with a work where I don't like/believe either of the main protagonists. Trying to shock me isn't a winner either. Thank you for your review.
ReplyDeleteI was generous because some of the story was ok towards the end.
DeleteShe's such a nice lady but yeah these were only 3 stars for me. I gave up after book 3. They just never quite did it for me but I know others are just gaga over them.
ReplyDeleteI doubt I will read anymore.
DeleteToo bad the story like got disrupted a bit.
ReplyDeleteYeah it jut wasn't great.
DeleteThe later books are better to some extent. I haven't read the earlier ones. Sorry this one didn't work for you.
ReplyDeleteI doubt I'll read anymore.
DeleteI've had her books sitting around to read but I see not rush might have been a good thing.
ReplyDeleteSomeone else might like it more than I did.
DeleteI can appreciate an opposites attract, but sometimes, there is just not enough connection over that distance to convince me that it'll work. Haha, yeah, there is such a thing as too broody.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read this one, but I do have it. I'll be lowering my expectations.
It wasn't great unfortunately.
DeleteI think I have this one at home
ReplyDeleteI hope you like it more than I did.
DeleteI think I read this one years ago
ReplyDeleteFirst time for me. I didn't are for it.
DeleteSounds like the book missed it mark, if the stalker was the only interesting character!

Yeah it missed the mark.
Deletenice premise Mary. I think I've read her before thanks
ReplyDeleteThe premise was great but it didn't live up to it.
DeleteBummer! I have a hard time reading books with unlikable characters, and this one seemed to have a lot going on as well. Sorry it wasn't a better read, but glad the stalker aspect was interesting!

The stalker was the best part.
DeleteWhen you cannot connect or dislike characters it takes the fizzle out.
ReplyDeleteIt really does.
DeleteWell, darn. I was excited to see that you were reviewing this one since I am pretty sure that I have it on my kindle. Sorry you had some issues with it, Mary.
ReplyDeleteI hope you like it more than I did.
DeleteI'm certain I have this one on my kindle, or at least the plot seems familiar. Too many characters does get confusing!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had liked it more.
DeleteSorry to hear that you didn't enjoy this more. I remember reading it a while ago and liking it. Although, I never did keep up with the series. I wonder if I went back to it now, if my opinion on it would be different.
ReplyDeleteWe're not all going to feel the same about the books we read. I'm glad you liked it.
DeleteThat's too bad it was hard to keep track of all the characters and that the main character weren't likable. I can see why this one didn't fully work for you, although it's good that it picked up a bit toward the end.
ReplyDeleteThe ending was a good one.
