This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.
I was out walking Falcor in front of my apartment complex and saw this ambulance pull up. I thought they were going to the pool courtyard which is one down from mine but nope, they walked into my courtyard and went to the new move in. They stayed for a few minutes and then left. He's a really quiet guy and he works from home so I hardly ever see him outside. Hopefully he's alright.
It's kinda hard to see but there's a tent set up down by the blue trash can just to the right of it. And to the left of the trash can there was a huge metal shelving unit with a bunch of blankets pulled across the opening of the fence that I walk through to take Falcor for a walk. One of the homeless guys had all his stuff set up out there in the alley right behind someone's bedroom window. Someone must have called the police because I saw the Sheriffs car pull up next to him and make him pack all his stuff up and leave.
That white car in the Middle is the Sheriffs car when he drove away. 2 days later the homeless guy was right back in the same spot. I feel bad for the guy but he needs to find a better spot to set up his tent. He was taking up one of the parking spaces and was right in front of someone's bedroom window. Plus he blacked everyone from using the hole in the fence that most people use to get into the grocery store's parking lot when they walk over there or like me when I walk the dog.
A few days later the homeless guy had moved his sleeping bad to in between two of the bushes in the pictures above. I was walking by after the sun had gone down and he was eating something but all I heard was him very loudly making nom nom noises and loudly saying "MMMmmm munch munch munch" The people in drug dealers apartment feed him and that's where he gets his drugs which is why he sticks around here. Not gonna lie, he scared the bejuju's outta me when he made that noise because it was dark, his sleeping bag is black and I didn't see him until he made noise.
The high this week was 112F/44C
The low this week was 84F/28C

From the homeless guy's perspective he has everything he needs but... It would have scared me witless too.

ReplyDeleteThe homeless issue seems to be exploding out of control everywhere. That guy needs someplace to go, but obviously people can't put up with a tent blocking a public accessway or being scared when walking next to the building.
Did you see this story? The local authorities seem to be actively making things worse.
Yeah it's too darn hot. it doesn't surprise me that the authorities are making things worse.

ReplyDelete112 degrees this week? That's awful! I don't know how you and Falcor can stand it. I hope that's the end of extreme heat for this season in your neck of the woods.
It's good to know that you have at least one quiet neighbor who keeps to himself. Seems like he's one of the few good neighbors you have around the block. I don't know how that squatter thought he could get away with setting up camp outside somebody's window and blocking a parking space. It's a good thing he finally moved to a less intrusive spot, but spooky that you and Falcor must pass right by him when you go for walks. I'm sure you will be careful and keep a watchful eye. It's sad that his rationale for pitching his tent where he did was so that he would be close to the drug dealer's apartment.

I try only to take him for longer walks before the sun comes up and after the sun goes down. During the day we stay in the shaded courtyard.

DeleteThe authorities should set up on the verge of the town, some temporary structures (i.e.solid tents) to provide basic shelter for the homeless.
ReplyDeleteSomebody did, and the authorities destroyed them. See the link in my comment above.
DeleteWe have some housing for the homeless nad homeless shelters. But they can't do drugs in them so they don't go.
DeleteI'm usually sympathetic to the cops not hassling the homeless when they find a place to camp out, but right behind someone's bedroom window and bushes up against the building is not the place. Since the cops can't get him gone, maybe you tenants can call on the drug dealer to dig deep, find his good neighborly nature, tell the guy no more drugs until he finds somewhere to camp that's not there.
ReplyDeleteOh drug dealer does not care that the homeless people camp out near his place. But if we called him on it, I'm sure he would say there's nothing he could do about it.

DeleteWe really need to come up with something as a country to help the homeless... of course that would require they act like grown ups and play nicely together.
ReplyDeleteWe have homeless shelters here but they can't bring drugs or alcohol into them so most of the people won't go.
DeleteSad there are so many homeless people out there. Even sadder when they're drug users, too.

DeleteI hope your quiet neighbor is okay too. That homeless guy sleeping between the bushes would scare me too. I hope he moves on--but it sounds like he has reason to stay if his supplier lives in your complex. That sucks.

DeleteMaybe you should check in on that quiet guy now and then. And the homeless man, I don't know what to say, I don't think I'd want him outside my window either, but I do feel so bad for him, and all of the homeless.
ReplyDeleteHe gets a lot of packages and I usually knock on his door to let him know when I see them outside so I do see him pretty often.
DeleteYeah, that homeless guy needs to pick a different spot. I wouldn't want him outside my bedroom window or on a route I normally take. You just don't know how these people will behave when you're trying to get by, especially since he's a druggie.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't care where he sets up as long as I can get by him and he isn't shouting at me. lol I've talked to him before and he's nice most of the time but I do think he might be schizophrenic. The police usually make people move out from where people walk or if they set their tents up in the alley.

There are a lot of homeless and drug addicts around here and while most seem nice, you just never know what will set someone off.
DeleteThe poor man is probably harmless, but...you never know, especially if he's on drugs. Stay safe!

DeleteAs you say, not a good place to set up your tent. I think I would have been alarmed by those strange noises too.
