This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 25 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 25 years here in a weekly blog post.
The big problem this week has been the offleash dogs. There have been so many of them. The homeless drug addicts have a large black pitbull with them that they have offleash all the time. I don't even walk that way anymore because of the dog.
A lady who lives across the street has a black and white pitbull that she's been letting offleash and she's been aggressive to other dogs. I've already called Animal Control once and they won't even come out because they are overwhelmed at the shelter with too many dogs and no more room for anymore right now.
Then there was a German Sheppard out loose in the neighborhood. Thankfully none of the dogs have come close to me and Falcor and I haven't had to scare them away with the taser but I've had it on me just in case.

Our property manager sent out notices this week that they want all tables, chairs, plants, privacy curtains, bbq's, and anything else outside or outside the door removed by Friday or they would be put in the dumpster. No one removed a thing and nothing was done. They've put out notices like that before and I think residents know that they won't do anything. My daughter has a small garden she made by our door and when I asked the manager about it when I saw them walking around, she said she wanted it removed because it was directly in the soil and not in planters. But they didn't remove it and neither did we. We'll see what happens.
It's not like it's big and obtrusive. it's small, has a tiny fence around it with fairy lights. It's cute and they complained about it. My daughter is growing cilantro, radishes, micro greens, chamomile and some flowers.

Not only is the place going to the dogs, but sounds like we’ve got the same management company with that “anything outside the door” business. Love the garden, would be a shame to have management destroy it like ours did the community garden. It's been quiet around here as well and I'm beginning to think I should be worried.
ReplyDeleteI could understand it if there were a bunch of trash outside but it's just a few chairs and bbq's. So far they haven't done anything.
DeleteI really hope your daughter's garden is left alone. It looks lovely and definitely not obtrusive.
ReplyDeleteUnleashed dogs are a menace - and much more important that fussing over things which aren't putting anyone in danger.
I agree. There are so many off leash dogs around here.

ReplyDeleteI'm happy to know you had a more peaceful week, dear friend, but it is troubling that you must BOLO for unleashed, aggressive breed dogs whenever you leave your doorstep to take Falcor for a walk. That's not to mention the possibly dangerous druggies you typically encounter. It's funny (not) that those problems are allowed to persist on your block while management wages war against plants and gardens.

DeleteWhat's a garden in the ground going to hurt? Shame the complex doesn't have a rule about no big dogs. Not that they'd enforce that rule either.
ReplyDeleteOh they do have that rule! it's in our lease that we aren't supposed to have any dogs that weight more than 40lbs. But it's not enforced at all.
DeleteI can't see why they would be bothered by a small, well-kept garden. And I don't see the point of issuing warnings and then not enforcing them. Obviously people will assume as you did that the warning is not serious.

DeleteSo they want people dragging charcoal and gas grills into their apartments? Yeah, that sounds safe!
ReplyDeleteYes, they do. They sent out notices a while back that when the bbq's are not in use they want them stores inside the apartment.
DeleteThat's too bad that the animal shelter is overwhelmed. I still remember the time I called the emergency officials to inform them that a deer was running around on the highway.And they were like 'yeah, what do you want us to do about it?
ReplyDeleteThat's insane. The dog population is out of control here in Vegas. There are so many backyard breeders.
DeleteYour daughter's small garden may be the only nice (and useful) thing around there and they want it removed. Pff.
ReplyDeleteThose dogs sounds like an accident waiting to happen (no matter that your daughter's ex has already been victim of one). Good for you that you carry a taser. Poor Falcor must be afraid too...
Oh Falcor isn't afraid, he wants to fight all the big dogs. The taser has saved me a few times. Thankfully they are scared of the noise.

ReplyDeleteThey are usually afraid of the sound which is enough to get them to run away.
DeleteSo frustrating. We don't have too much problem with off leash dogs, but just about everyone in our neighborhood puts their dogs out in their yard during the day and leaves them, and they all bark constantly. The only way to get an ordnance issued is if the people in the houses on both sided and in back of the barking dogs' house sign a complaint, too. So of course that would never happen because at least one of those houses will have their own barking dog they don't want reported. 🙄

DeleteThis is why I am glad to live in a house. I can do what I want for the most part. I'd love to have neighbors that cleaned up their crap though.

DeleteYikes that's super dangerous with the off leash dogs. Just another thing you have to contend with. Glad it's been quiet though! I think that's funny about the notice and then they did nothing. Not funny but you know what I mean. Your daughter's garden sounds nice! It's nice to grow a few little things.

DeleteI don't understand why people need to remove their outdoor decorations and gardens. I mean, if they have literal trash sitting outside, fine, but decor and gardens add to the "curb appeal" and make a place a home. That's just sad. :(

DeleteI'm not sure the notices sent to the tenants regarding the exterior of the building, are the initiative of the management. They probably get all sorts of rules to be obeyed from the municipality.
ReplyDeleteOh no, it's definitely management. There are no such rules from our municipality. The managers are just power tripping.

DeleteWow. That's very quiet for you! So what's the reasoning for nothing outside? That seems a bit ridiculous. Sorry about the dogs, you and Falcor shouldn't have to worry every time you go for a walk, but it's getting worse. That's too bad.
ReplyDeleteit's just one of the many rules in the 30 page lease agreement. It makes no sense.
