Favorite Type of Spooky Images?

If you didn't know before now, you will after this post... I like Grim Reapers. If I was ever going to get a tattoo it would be of a grim reaper. I don't find them scary at all, I find them fascinating, mysterious and a little sexy. I might have a problem...

If I had to say I had a favorite type of spooky image or type of spooky Halloween décor that I like, it would definitely be Grim Reapers.

Do you have a certain type of spooky image or décor that you like this time of year?

What is it about Grim Reapers? I'm not sure. Is it the cloak? His dominating presence? The fact that he has dark, soulless eyes or that you can't actually see his skeletal face in most pictures? Could be...

I would probably get on the boat with him if he beckoned me with those gloved hands. I definitely have a problem. I love this time of year. Bring on the Grim Reapers.

What's your favorite spooky image or décor this time of year?

  1. If I had a favorite type of Halloween imagery, it would probably be things that evoke the ancient roots of the day, more than the modern ones. I'm somewhat partial to witches, for their association with ceremonial magic. But almost anything can be spooky and awe-inspiring in the hands of a good artist.

Are you familiar with Jenny Jinya's Loving Reaper, the harvester of animal souls?

You may find this amusing. I did.

  2. As I said yesterday we really don't do Halloween here. There are commercial images in the shops that leave me cold.
I have always like Terry Pratchett's DEATH and like your previous commentator warm to witches.

  6. Last one is most interesting.
It looks like he isn't as threatening.

    1. Images of the Grim Reaper on a boat are influenced by the ancient Greek deity Charon, whose function was to ferry the souls of the dead across the rivers Acheron and Styx to the land of the afterlife. Charon was not viewed as a threatening figure by the Greeks, but rather as a guide into the next stage of existence.

  7. If that's what you like... I'm fond of Death in the Discworld novels, but other than that, Grim Reapers aren't my thing. I don't like spooky that much, although I do enjoy Halloween.

  8. These Grim Reaper pics are pretty awesome. I love those last two in the boats. And my favorite Halloween images are of spooky haunted houses or black-and-white photos of eerie cemeteries. :D
