Apartment Life #297

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 25 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 25 years here in a weekly blog post.

The police parked across the street from the apartment complex across from me. They have been getting a lot of police calls lately. No one was arrested so that's good maybe. lol

----

My apartment complex upgraded their resident portal a month ago and I haven't been able to log in since the upgrade. I called the office so many times over the past month and was finally able to get logged into the portal 2 days ago. I agreed to renew my lease this month but the only way to do that is to log into the resident portal and renew on their site. So I find my lease and nothing is clickable for me to E-sign it. So Once again I had to call the office and she tells me there's nothing she can do because it's not their website so she has to send in another maintenance ticket to the tech company that runs it. I hope they get it fixed because this is ridiculous.

The high this week was 65F/15C
The low this week was 40F/4C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Book Review: Forgiven by L. Shannon

Book Description

Kelly Greene has spent her adult life using her psychic abilities to protect the weak and defenseless, but this time she rescues a brainwashed, amnesiac, werewolf assassin. Can Kelly trust him to be the good man that her heart desires and her body craves, or will putting her faith in him risk all that she holds dear? Saxxon exists in a world of hate, but he dreams of another life, where he can be free of the cruel men, who use his magical powers to commit atrocities against humanity. A generous woman offers him the chance to make his dreams reality, if only he’s strong enough to overcome fear, addiction, and an enemy that will stop at nothing to reclaim their favorite assassin. How can he ask for love and acceptance, when he has been the tool for evil for so long? Will Kelly’s love become a source of great strength, or his most devastating weakness?

My Review

Saxxon is on a mission to hunt down his brother and bring him back, the only thing that matters to him is the mission. He doesn't remember much except that if he doesn't complete the mission there will be pain and he doesn't want pain.

Kelly has psychic abilities and helps the police find missing kids but when she can't seem to find the most recent kidnapped child she has to resort to doing something she hates doing, getting inside the mind of the kidnapper to get some clue as to where the child is. But this kidnapper is different, he's in pain and his mind is all jumbled up. Once she locates the child, she finds herself in danger from not only the kidnapper but from Saxxon too. She tells Saxxon that she can help him and he wants to believe her but the mission comes before anything. When the kidnapper calls Saxxon, brother it seems to dislodge something in his mind and stuns him long enough for the kidnapper to shoot him so he can get away.

Saxxon finds himself in danger not only from being shot but also from those who sent him on the mission and he needs to find a place to hide for a while so he hides in Kelly's car since he almost felt safe with her for some reason. Kelly helps him to a motel room, where he starts to tell her a little about his life. It becomes quite apparent that someone or some group has been holding him hostage, experimenting on him and has him addicted to the drug he has with him. He knows he's dangerous so he tells her how to stop him if he loses his mind and attacks her but she doesn't believe it will come to that.

As more of the drug leaves his body and he starts to remember who and what he is, he knows others will be sent after him to bring him back. Kelly is determined not to let that happen to she calls a friend that helps them. The rest of the book was an action packed ride where they are on the run for their lives as very dangerous people are after them and will do anything to get Saxxon back.

The romance between Saxxon and Kelly was a slow burn as they are on the run but it was definitely great between them. She really saved his life and takes the news that he's a shifter pretty well considering everything they are going through.

This was such a fun book to read.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Forbidden Wolf by CR. Robertson

Book Description

When two immortal enemies give into their forbidden desires, their passion puts both of their lives on the line.

One a lycan, the other a vampire, Levi and Tasha’s very survival hinges on remaining sworn enemies. But one night changes everything, resulting in a relationship between the two. A relationship punishable by execution should either be caught.

Fueled by hate and inflamed by boundary disputes, their warring species will never accept their love. But just as Levi and Tasha plan their escape, a new danger emerges that threatens both of their worlds.

As the pair discover why their species have really been kept apart all these years, they soon realize their own secret may be the key to unlock the survival of their species. But if their passion is discovered by the wrong people, they might find themselves dead before they get the chance to save anyone.

My Review

Lycan's and vampires are at war. When vampires turn 18 they are required to fight in the war against the Lycan's for 20 years. They also get assigned into the breeding program so they can have as many vampire children to fight when they also turn 18 years old. Tasha is a vampire and is about to turn 18 years old and have to join the fight. She goes out at night to get some fresh air and runs into a Lycan who is still out after dark. Tasha bites him and in turn he bites her, each believing that the other's bite will kill them, they make an uneasy truce and decide to die together. Neither one was strong enough to make it back to their camps so they sit and talk as they get sicker and sicker, thinking they are going to die soon.

But they make it through the night, not understanding what happened or how they could have been lied to their entire lives about how lethal the other's bite would be. After making it through the night, they find they are deeply attracted to each other and make plans to see each other for the few weeks they have free before they have to fight in the war. As they go off to war, they make a pact to end up together in 20 years after they have done their duty in the fight and they tell each other to do what they have to in order to make it back alive. I thought this was so sweet and sad at the same time.

As the war rages on between their two species, Tasha and Levi realize something more sinister is going on and they find a new enemy to them both to fight. Somehow they will have to bring their two warring species together in order to fight the real enemy but the war between their people has been going on for so many years, it will take a miracle to get them to fight together in order to beat this new villain.

Oh my goodness, this was such a good read. As I was reading the fight between their two species and how things were really going and how the people in charge on both sides were not being truthful about all the facts and using certain things to their own advantage, I got so mad for all of them. To fall for what is supposed to be your enemy and know that it would mean death if you're caught was just so sad. But this ended up being an action packed book and a great paranormal romance as well. I can't say enough great things about this and plan on reading the next book soon.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Flight by Pepper Paris

Book Description

A routine police call turns violent and causes her to shift for the first time. With a a target on her back, she is unexpected thrown into a world of owl shifters and Otherworlders that she never could have imagined.

When sassy, street smart, cop London goes back to college for her continuing education classes, she never expected to fall for the T.A. Rhett.

Chased by an evil corporation, she meets Bass, Haven and Jeremy while on the run with help from Rhett. London must fight her way to freedom and discover love can come in multiples of four. Will it be enough to save them?

Can they accept her for who she has become?

My Review

This is the second book in the feathered protectors series and even though I didn't read the first book before reading this one, I didn't lost at all. London is a cop and decides to go back to school but she doesn't expect to be attracted to T.A. Rhett. Someone poisoned her and after meeting Jeremy he checks on her that night because something isn't right. When London unexpectedly shifts into an owl, he knows that she's the person he thought she was. After helping her through her first shift and treating her for the poisoning, she has a million questions. But after learning about other shifters that have gone missing and using her police skills to start helping search for the missing shifters, she catches the eye of one of the kidnappers and is put in grave danger herself.

After escaping from her captors and with the help of friends, she plans to bring down the people who are capturing other shifters. The romance between London and the 4 guys was super sweet and sexy. Each guy is so different but they all seemed to match really well because each one brought something different to the relationship.

This was a different kind of shifter romance but I enjoyed it.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #296

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 25 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 25 years here in a weekly blog post.

This week was a little different. I hurt my foot really bad on Monday morning and thought it was broken. I could barely walk on it. So I called an ambulance. I didn't even have a chance to do my makeup. lol

My daughter started snapping pictures. lol
They took me to the ER and after some X-rays I was told it's just a bad sprain. I didn't even twist my ankle or anything. I was just walking when it happened. I felt something snap in my foot.

I got crutches and an air cast. The air cast sure makes it easier to walk and so do the crutches.

By the 4th day the air cast was really starting to get on my nerves but it does help. lol It keeps your foot from moving which really helps with the pain. Those blue plastic pieces on either side are filled with air and fit right up on your ankle. Velcro straps keep it all in place. The ER doctor prescribed me 600 mg Ibuprofen to take for the pain. I can't take opioid pain meds because they make me really sick so this is fine with me.

It's going to be a painful few weeks before this heals.

The high this week was 70F/21C
The low this week was 38F/3C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Book Review: Finding Her Minotaur by Evangeline Priest

Book Description

Welcome to New York...

It figures that on my first day away from home, I’m taken by an invisible force and dragged to the secret underworld called the Minotaur’s Labyrinth. Not only do I discover that monsters and aliens exist, but I’m also about to be sold to the highest bidder.

However, I find that not all monsters are monstrous.

And one of them in particular makes it his mission to destroy anyone of them that lays a hand on me.

Finding Her Minotaur is a sweet and spicy monster romance novella set in the Obsidian Rift Universe, which is full of monsters and aliens who are obsessed with their mates.

My Review

Karis travels to New York to her boyfriend but he tells her she's too needy and wants some time apart. Left alone and without any money, she could call home but she decides not to. She helps a woman who was being assaulted by a guy and he runs away. But just moments later they are both kidnapped by an invisible force. The other woman is able to get a text to Bronn right before she is taken and he's on his way to save them.

Creatures from other planets have taken them and they are about to go on the auction block. When Bronn and his teammates infiltrate the auction, he spots Karis and knows she is his mate. Bronn and Karis have to hide from those after them and while hiding they get a lot closer. Bronn is described just like he looks on the cover and I wasn't sure what his personality would be like, but dang I love him. He'd do anything to make sure his mate is safe and well taken care of. This was a quick novella but I didn't feel like the story went by too fast or was missing anything. This was a lot of fun to read.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Finders Keepers by PG Forte

Book Description

Sometimes finding what you want is the easy part.

Caleb is a bionic soldier with little-to-no memory of his past. Aldo's an undercover cop who's searching for the man who got away. Then there's Sally, an ER physician who used to be married to Aldo's late partner, Davis. Sally's just looking for a reason to keep on getting up every day.

This holiday season, chance will bring them together and give them an opportunity to help one another find what they each want most. But every gift comes with a price. And keeping what they've found once they've found it? Yeah, that's gonna be the hard part.

My Review

Sally meets Caleb in the ER and he's smitten with her so he asks her out but things don't go as planned when they go back to her place. Her husband passed away just a year before and her home still looks like he lives there so Caleb takes off before they do anything. So she calls her best friend, Aldo who had been her late husband's police partner. Even though Aldo had feelings for her late husband, things never went beyond that. And even though Sally has feelings for Aldo she knows they can never be a couple.

Turns out that Caleb is working with Aldo on a case and Aldo can't seem to stop thinking about Caleb in erotic ways but Caleb is giving him mixed signals. When Aldo notices a scar on Caleb that looks very similar to one that that his late husband had because of the wound that killed him and he finds out that Caleb can't remember most of his early life because of the implants and experiments he signed up for, Aldo is suspicious that he knows more about Caleb than Caleb knows about himself.

Aldo doesn't want Sally alone for her first Christmas without her late husband so he invites her to his cabin and also invites Caleb when he finds out they both have feelings for each other. Aldo has some ulterior motives for inviting Caleb though and secrets get revealed as the days go on with all of them there.

Once the truth is revealed and everyone's emotions and feelings are revealed, there's really only one thing they can do. While things are a little confusing and slow in the first few pages, it quickly picks up and had me on the edge of my seat. I had a feeling what was about to be revealed but I had no idea where this story would end up and I loved it. All three of these people had been hurt and were in need of some love.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Everyone Has A Story, Here's One of Mine

I've been thinking of writing an autobiography or memoir but it just never comes together for me but I figured if I write one story at a time and post it on my blog maybe once a month, I can do that. Maybe one day I'll pull all the stories together and put them in a book but for now I'll just share some stories with you about my childhood. Some of the stories will be happy, some sad and some horrific because that was my childhood. But they will all be real, things that actually happened. If it seems like something that people enjoy reading maybe I'll keep it going. These stories will not be in any kind of order, I'll just write them as they come to me.

Christmas with my dad and step mother in 1988.

Late in 1988 I went to live with my dad and step mother for a few months. I was 18 years old and had just left one of the mental hospitals that I had been in for a couple of months (That's for another story) and my dad asked me to come stay with him for a little while. I think he thought that he could help me and he felt bad that I had ended up there in the first place. My step mother however, did not like me and didn't want me there and she never stopped letting me know it.

It was almost Christmas and my dad asked me what I wanted so I told him that I really liked one of the purple sweaters that my step mother, Catherine had. I was trying to make nice and said she looked really nice in it and would like something like that. I tried to be nice to her but she was a nasty woman and still is. I didn't know it at the time but both she and my dad were doing speed (Amphetamines) and that really changed their personalities a lot. On top of that they both drank.

For Christmas, my dad did indeed buy me a crocheted, purple sweater and I really liked it. I bought my step mother a horse statue because she liked horses. I was trying to be nice. My dad got a box of sausage, cheese and crackers since that was his favorite thing in the world. A few days later my step mother "accidentally" dropped the horse statue I bought her and it broke. I actually think she did it on purpose so she wouldn't have to keep it. A few days later I put my sweater on again and this time it had 2 cuts in it and the yarn started to unravel really quickly. It had been crocheted and I had no idea how to fix it. I showed my dad who showed my step mother who said she could fix it. But all she ended up doing was unraveling it further to the point that all I could do was throw it away. I can't prove she did it but I had worn it a couple of times and it was fine when I put it in the closet. That woman has always been very malicious and spiteful. She still is.

Apartment Life #295

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 25 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 25 years here in a weekly blog post.

The police stopped across the street and were talking to each other for a minute before they both got out and went to the apartment complex across the street. They weren't there for very long and it didn't look like anyone was arrested so that's good.
---

This is a makeshift shelter made of wood, cardboard, blankets and a plastic tarp. I usually see them on the sidewalks around here when the homeless make their shelters at night but this one was right out in the middle of the street in a corner/turn. Everytime a car came around that corner I expected the shelter to get hit and there were several close calls. The police saw it so many times but didn't even stop to tell them to move it to the sidewalk. it wasn't until a week later when a Marshall stopped and told them to get it out of the street was it moved to the sidewalk.
----

On Wednesday my daughter and I heard screaming coming from an apartment 2 doors down. Thier next door neighbor started pounding on her door and window yelling to see if she was alright then she said she was calling the cops. We almost called the police too but then we saw the woman's boyfriend leave the apartment, get in his car and leave. This isn't the first time this has happened and she keeps letting him come back. She lives there with her brother but he was at work. The brother wants to kick this guys a$$ so bad.

The high this week was 61F/15C
The low this week was 49F/9C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Book Review: Feral by Trish Heinrich

Book Description

Humans and Werewolves do not mix. I tried that once and all I have to show for it is a broken heart. No thanks.

When I have to pretend that Daphne is my mate in order to find the mystical artifact threatening my clan, I know it’s going to end badly. But I’ll do anything to save my family, so I decide to act like the cheerful bookworm with the body of a goddess doesn’t affect me in the least.

Which was a big fat lie even before I discovered the one thing that would make all of this ten times more complicated. You see Daphne is my true mate.

Now every day that I spend with her is a special kind of torture. Her very touch makes my body burn with desires I’d buried a long time ago. I need to claim Daphne, to make her mine.

But I can’t, I won’t. She may accept that I’m a Werewolf, but Daphne doesn’t know the dark beast that lurks under my skin. If she did, she’d run screaming.

So I’m going to keep my distance, for both our sakes. And when the mission is done, I’m setting her free. Even if I have to tear my heart out to do it.

Warning: Feral is a steamy standalone monster romance in the Monsters & Artifacts series. It has a grumpy Scottish Werewolf, a sunny bookworm, primal chases, outdoor ‘fun’, size difference and enough fake relationship angst to keep you up all night. It definitely has an HEA. CW include body image issues, emotional abuse, biting.

My Review

Daphne works at the artifacts warehouse called The Archive. They track down mystical artifacts and keep them safely away from anyone so they can't harm anyone. But the last person in charge was horrible so a bunch of the paranormals who used to work there quit and want nothing to do with her boss or this place. But The Archive is the only place that can help when an artifact gets loose.

When Fraser's pack ends up having some issues that he needs to help with, he asks The Archive for help and Daphne is assigned to help but she has to pose as his mate and that means Fraser has to bite her. The only problem is she really is Fraser's mate and it's killing him to be around her and not touch her how he really wants. But he's been in a relationship with a human before and it ended with his heart being broken and he doesn't want that again so he tries to keep an emotional distance from Daphne which isn't easy since she is sunshine, bubbly and smiles. He on the other hand is a bit grumpy but I liked it. A grumpy, Scottish, werewolf hero? Yes, please. But holy hot werewolves, Batman! Fraser is every werewolf fantasy I've ever had, all rolled into one. *Did I say that out loud?* Ha!

They are having trouble keeping things professional between them after he gave her the mating bite so she could accompany him back to his clan but they have to act like they like each other and when all that acting turns into real life feelings, it's all they can do to keep their hands off each other while they look for the artifact they came to find. The bite created a mating bond which just added to the feelings they were already having. Fraser was such a sweet guy and Daphne was so smart and fearless. I loved them together.

This is a true monster romance as he's not human at all, Fraser's true form is pretty much what you see there on the cover, a monster. But he can use a magical glamour to look like a human so he doesn't scare the mundanes ( humans). So when he and Daphne had their spicy time, he was in his true form. So if that prospect bothers you, you might not want to read this one. I loved it though.

This was such a good book so you know I'll be looking for the next book in this series.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Dragon's Oath by Sophie Stern

Book Description

A woman in danger…

A lost baby…

A long journey home…

Peggy is nothing special. As the night janitor at Westbridge High, she just wants to finish cleaning so she can hurry home and work on her art. For Peggy, nothing makes her feel more alive than when she’s standing in front of a canvas. Then one night, everything changes…

A woman in trouble runs up to Peggy and gives her a child. She begs Peggy to take the child to Fablestone where the baby will be safe. From what? Peggy doesn’t know. All she knows is that the two agents who show up on her doorstep the next day aren’t with the FBI, and she’d bet anything they’re scientists who want to get their hands on dragon’s blood.

That’s not going to happen.

Not on Peggy’s watch.

Peggy doesn’t have a choice. She has to get the baby to the Fablestone clan before the full moon ends. She has to reach Fablestone before it’s too late.

The fate of the clan is resting on Peggy, and she swore a dragon's oath to return the child to its rightful home.

She'll do whatever it takes, even if it costs her everything.

My Review

When Peggy gets off work, a woman holding a baby comes out of the dark and begs her to take her baby and bring the child to Fablestone. She makes her a promise to do so and then the woman grabs her arm and bites her. She's shocked by what transpired but she brings the baby home to think about what to do. She isn't sure if she should just bring the child to the police but something in her tells her not to and then two people knock on her door and question her if she's seen a woman with a baby. Peggy knows they aren't real authorities so she lies and says no. Peggy knows she has to keep her promise and bring the child to Fablestone so after some internet searching she sets off to this place with the child.

Once there she encounters a dragon shifter who knows who the baby is but because Peggy is a human, he doesn't trust her at first and that costs him precious time that he ends up finding out they didn't have. Once we find out who the woman was, who she was running from and why, we're off on a race against time to save the woman and others.

This was a great story about a race to get a child home, find her mother and save her. The romance between Peggy and the dragon shifter who saves her was a bit in the back of the story as they have other things they need to worry about.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Dragon's Masquerade by Dawn McGraw

Book Description

Get stuck in a snowstorm with this sexy dragon for a trick-or-treat with some heat!
A short romantic Halloween tail from the DRAGONDELL Series!

As problems went, she was a very small one...
But Farryn didn’t have time for problems; he was a dragon on a mission.
Izzy’s Halloween already sucked before the hot guy tried to lock her in the closet…
Why were all the sexy ones crazy?

When Izzy finds herself stuck in a snowstorm and accidentally crashing a masquerade wedding, this little human is in for a dragon-sized surprise.

If you love steamy, instalove, dragon shifter romance, with guaranteed happily ever afters between alpha males and their fated mates, then you won’t want to miss this action packed adventure.

My Review

I haven't read this series but this short novella looked fun so I read it and it was a fun one. Izzy gets stuck on the road after her car breaks down. She wonders into a masquerade party on Halloween and hopes to just stay in from the cold until she can find a phone or a charger to charge her phone. But the party is full of dragon shifters that she thinks are wearing elaborate dragon costumes.  When one of the dragon shifters tries to lock her in a closet for her own safety, she's having none of it and Farryn comes to her rescue.

Farryn can't let the little human be locked in a closet so he takes care of her so she'll blend in with the rest of the partygoers and she ends up feeling safe with him. Some of the other dragon shifters aren't as nice and want to cause problems. So while Farryn and Izzy are getting closer and getting to know each other, he has to try and stop his rival from messing things up.

This was such a cute, quick novella. I really liked Farryn and Izzy. Who wants to find their fated mate at a Halloween costume party full of dragon shifters? *raises hand* I offer myself as tribute. I want to go back and read this series now.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.
