Family Heirlooms

I recent blog post on another blog got me thinking about the things we keep from our families. Most of us have some sort of family heirloom from grandparents or parents. It also got me thinking because my mother in law recently passed away and my sister in law sent my hubby some of her things. My mother in law loved wolves so hubby was sent some of the wolf pictures and plaques she had on her walls and some of her jewelry. Our daughter was given some of her jewelry and I know she will treasure the jewelry as much as I treasure my own grandmothers that I have had for years.

I ended up being the keeper of the pictures in my family. Since I was about 12 years old everyone in the family has been giving me the pictures to keep and now I have about 30 photo albums. I also have things of my grandparents, uncles and aunts and parents that they all gave me.

Sometimes I look at things and realize that it was my grandmothers or grandfathers and it brings back a lot of good memories for me. I have a geode sitting on my shelf that my grandfather found over 90 years ago. He was a rock hound and found this rock and broke it open to find this really pretty greenish blue rock inside it. He polished it and gave it to my dad who gave it to me. I don't know what kind of stone is inside the rock, it kind looks like turquoise, but I have no idea.

My daughter is funny because she'll look at something in the apartment and tell me, I get that when you die. LOL I say, Yep, but I'm not dead yet.

  1. I have some of my mother's jewelry, but it's locked away and I don't wear it. It's not really to my taste. I also have some photos, but that's about all.

  2. I have a few pieces that I keep in my jewelry box and don't wear too.
