Apartment Life #241

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 22 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 23 years here in a weekly blog post.

On Wednesday the police showed up in force. 2 men down the street were shot in the head and the gunman fled on foot back to his apartment right across the street from me. One was just a superficial wound the other guy was taken to the hospital in critical condition. They were here for hours looking for the gunman. The police were knocking on doors and telling people they had to leave because of an armed suspect. So this lady got her 5 kids out and left in that car right there.

I took a little video when the police arrived across the street from me on Wednesday. The lady who came and got her kids out of one of the apartments is in the car right there and she left. You can also see a man holding his kid come out of another apartment. They made all the residents in that building vacate their apartments for hours, I'm assuming because they thought an armed suspect was in one of the apartments.

The lady got her kids in the car and left.

There was one officer outside this apartment building for a while and other officers were walking around the back where the alley is.

Here he is walking to his police car with his rifle.

There were a bunch of police cars here.

At one point a bunch of the police were standing outside and other officers were in the back in the alley on the loud speaker asking the people in one of the apartments to come out with their hands up. I took a little video and uploaded to my FB of the police on the loudspeaker if you wanted to listen to it. There were around 6 cops standing around for hours, first searching for the gunman, questioning a guy and then trying to get into all the apartments. At first we were told that they caught the gunman but they later let him go and I talked to him when I had Falcor outside. He was mad because the police thought he was involved and questioned him but they let him go and kept looking around here for the guy.

One of the police officers told my daughter that the guy who had been shot in the head was still alive when they ambulance picked him up but they weren't sure he was going to make it.

I think they caught the person they were looking for because I started seeing people going back to their apartments and they were letting people walk around outside again.

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Review: Her Vampire Master (Midnight Doms book 2) by Maren Smith

Book Description

I take my pleasure where and when I please.
But nothing’s sweeter than the taste of a submissive woman--one who wants revenge.
She’s smart, brazen, fearless when she ought not to be.
I’ll teach her the monster living in the shadows can and will hunt her back.
But the creatures who killed her sister want to take her from me.
I won't allow it.

She belongs to me now.
Only by me.
Forever.

Note: Her Vampire Master is a standalone romance by USA Today Bestselling Author Maren Smith starring a dominant vampire and the human he comes to crave. No cheating, HEA guaranteed. It is book one in the Midnight Doms series, a spinoff of Renee Rose and Lee Savino's bestselling Bad Boy Alpha series.

My Review

Merris had a twin sister, Jez but they were separated when their parents died when they were children. They were put in separate foster homes and that's when Merris started having dreams of what her sister was going through. So when Jez dies, was murdered, Merris is sure she knows who did it because she got glimpses in dreams about what happened to her sister the night she died.

Aleron is a vampire and frequents Club Toxic but he's a little shocked when he spots Merris who is the spitting image of her now dead sister, Jez.

When Merris goes into Club Toxic she doesn't know that it's a BDSM club for vampires. All she knows is it's the last place her twin was seen alive. Because she's had dreams of who her sister saw on the last night she was alive, she knows Aleron is who she has come to see when she spots him in the club. Aleron is shocked to see Merris but knows moments after the shock wears off that she has to be Jez's twin sister because she's a little different and he can tell that she already hates him which amuses him.

Aleron motions Merris over to his table to find out what she wants and after speaking her and taking her into the dungeon because she wanted to see everything her sister did with him, he drinks her blood, wipes her memory of him and sends her home. But Merris isn't going to forget everything, she has visions of the future so she's shocked and so is he when he comes to her aid outside the club and she has a vision of what he really is a short time later. Aleron has no choice but to help her since someone tried to shoot and kill her. She knows what he is but she's still attracted to him and he finds her more interesting than any other woman in a really long time.

Keeping her and himself safe is no easy thing especially when the Vampire King's mate thinks Merris might have had something to do with the slaughter of a bunch of shifters. But keeping her safe is a good way for them to get to know one another better. He fell for her so fast and she fell for him after getting over the shock of finding out that vampires exist. Finding out who wanted her dead, why and what Aleron would do about it seemed to come to a conclusion really fast. But this was a fun book to read mostly because I liked watching Aleron and Merris get to know each other and realize that they were meant to be.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Review: Chaser by Brittany White

Book Description

A STAND ALONE PARANORMAL ROMANCE!

Sage West is on the run from her own demons. Exhausted and broke, she sets up camp in the small town of New Loveland where she wants to sell her finer things in a small gift shop. Although she decides what she really needs is some peace and quiet, her new landlord keeps coming around to check on her. And she can’t deny her attraction to him.

Davis Weathers is a lion with no pride. After spending five years as a loner in New Loveland, his temper tends to get the best of him, but as he finds himself in the midst of the lovely Sage West, he knows that only she can help ground him again.

But Sage has had experience with shifter lovers before, and she knows they only end badly. Will Davis be able to change her mind before she has a chance to run again?

WARNING: This ebook contains mature themes and language. Intended for 18+ readers only.

My Review

Sage left her ex-fiance, packed up all her belongings and moved to a small town where she could sell her things in a little shop. Her ex was a shifter and she knew better than to get involved with a shifter again.

Davis is a lion shifter and the owner of the apartment and shop downstairs that Sage had rented. He was gorgeous and made no qualms about letting her know he was also available.

All Sage wants is a new start somewhere she can live independently. She's not interested in dating again and definitely not a shifter. But her new landlord is gorgeous and she keeps running into him. She can't keep her eyes off him or her mind from wandering when he's near.

I don't like the insta-lust type books all that much but I know that when reading paranormal shifter romance that there's a chance they might find their mate right away and fall for each other fast. But I still didn't like that she fell in bed with him so fast after just getting out of a bad relationship with another shifter. But other than that it was a quick, fun little romance.

I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.

Review: The Alpha's Redemption by L.E. Wilson

Book Description

This book was previously published with the title "Fae Hunter".

Being the alpha isn't always easy.

Keegan McRae is the leader of the Austin werewolf pack. And sometimes, for the good of all involved, a male has to make choices he wouldn't normally abide by. Like allowing the Faerie you're sweet on to be the main attraction in a rodeo. Not as the cowgirl, but as the livestock.

Stubborn as a bull and just as fearless, Bitsy caught his interest the first time she flipped him off. But before he had a chance to make things right with her, she got loose. And though his wolf howled in protest at the loss, he had no choice but to let her go.

Bláthnaid (Bitsy) Dunn swore she would never again set foot in the hell hole that was Texas. Or anywhere near the arrogant shifter who was the main reason she hated it so much. The last time she'd seen him, his well-worn boots had stomped all over her hide—and her pride. Yet, here she was again.
This time, however, she's here on her terms. Keegan needs her help to infiltrate the Fae world, and she needs him to help her find her father. His green eyes are full of remorse, and his easy smile is hard to resist, but forgiveness is not part of the deal.

However, Keegan is used to fighting for what he wants. And he wants Bitsy. This time, she won't be getting away.

My Review

Keegan is a wolf shifter and the alpha of his pack. His pack had started tracking down Fae and holding them in the 'rodeo' that they held. In reality the rodeo was just a way to torture and hurt the Fae and let the wolves get out some of their aggression so they didn't turn on each other. What they didn't know was there were different kinds of Fae and some of the Fae were innocent people who never hurt another living being. But the wolves all thought they were all the same so they treated them all the same.

Bitsy is one of those innocent Fae so when she and her family get caught and brought to the rodeo, it's really awful for them. Keegan seems to know somewhere in the back of his mind that they are different but he doesn't do anything to help them because he doesn't want his pack to turn on him. So when some guys from another pack comes to save some of the Fae, there's a fight but they get away. Now living with wolf shifters that understand her and her family, she is shocked when Keegan asks for her help.

Keegan has an ulterior motive for asking Bitsy because not only does he want her help, he wants her. Keegan has something of hers that she wants back so she agrees to help him. But just when things are going well for them a huge twist in this story happens and the worst thing that could happen... happens.

I really thought it was all over for them at that point. This book made me sad and mad at the same time. The rodeo was wrong on so many levels and the fact that Keegan was okay with it made him a big jerk in my eyes and I couldn't forgive him. The book ended well but it's hard to really enjoy a book when you don't think that the hero deserves a happy ending.

I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.

Review: Accidental Abduction by Eve Langlais

Book Description

Big, bad and purple.

It was supposed to be a simple job. Grab some specimens from Earth and sell them on the interstellar black markets. In and out, with no one the wiser, except Tren accidentally abducts a human.

A barbaric female, who doesn't know how to be quiet and obey. That will affect her selling price especially since she only possesses two breasts, and a single mouth. Yet, in spite of her shortcomings there is something about her spitfire nature that intrigues him.

Maybe he should keep her. He's definitely not keen on getting rid of her after he seduces her. A space pirate doesn't usually fall in love, but when an enemy decides to take Megan, Tren realizes he will do anything to get her back.

My Review

Megan fell for a guy that ends up pushing her off the boat they go out on and leaves her in the water to die. All this guy wanted was her money and whatever else he could get from her.

Tren is over the ocean of Earth in his ship collecting some aquatic specimens when he accidentally scoops up Megan in his tractor beam.

Once Megan gets aboard the ship and stops herself from being sealed up in a tube with the fish, she falls and breaks her leg. The ship lets Tren know that a specimen has gotten loose but when he goes to check out what happen he finds Megan passed out on the floor. After putting her in the medical machine to fix her leg, he decides to keep her and sell her at the next place they land. But she isn't making things easy for him at all. He's not used to a mouthy female but can't help but be intrigued by her personality.

Little by little Megan wiggles her way into his heart and even though Tren is a big purple alien, Megan begins to feel something for him as well. When they face danger and she finds herself in a bad situation, she didn't expect to be saved but she is. I loved Tren. He might be a big, scary alien and ex-mercenary but he ends up being a great mate.

Megan made me laugh so many times. Her smart mouth and sarcastic come backs are hilarious. These two are total opposites but they sure make a great couple.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Happy Raturday!

Some of my newer followers have asked me if I have rats because of the Happy Raturday posts. So I thought I would answer you. I don't have rats right now but I have in the past. I have a dog right now and when I had rats I would let them out to crawl all over the place and can't do that with Falcor around. So maybe sometime in the future I'll have rats again. I thought I would share some of the pictures of the rats I have had. This was Patches.

This was Oreo and Dusty

This was Ares, Brodie, Jasper and Hades.

Fang. I named him Fang because he bit Ken several times. He never bit me and he and Ken did make friends after a while. It just took a little while for Fang to get comfortable with him. He would also sleep like this hanging over the hammock. Patches is sitting right next to him but you can only see his back.

This was my very first rat, Romi. A neighbor had her and worked all day so gave her to me and Ken so she would have someone to play with during the day.

Lucky. He was in a pet store and because he only had 3 legs, they were going to kill him. One of the workers there called my daughter to see if I would want him and I said yes. He was a real sweetie.

Flower. She was my only hairless rat. she loved to dive bomb our shirts and cuddle in there.

Marbles. He was my grumpy guy. You can just tell by the expression on his face. He didn't like to be held but he would come sit on the couch next to me as long as I gave him a snack.

Scribbles. I would leave my coffee cup on the table next to his cage in the morning while cleaning his cage, playing with him in the morning and filling his food bowl. He would run out and sit on my cup to get a drink of coffee or tea. lol

So now you know. This is just a few of the rats I had. I also had hamsters, gerbils and fish.

Apartment Life #240

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 22 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 23 years here in a weekly blog post.

----

On Tuesday I was sitting at my desk in front of the living room window and watched a woman stomp her way across the two chairs and table we have sitting on front of that window. Two days before that though she was out asking my daughter and her friends if they had extra blankets, shoes, socks ect. My daughter's friend gave her a blanket because I'm pretty sure she's homeless and thought that would be the end of it but the next day this woman walked right into his apartment without knocking and asked for more stuff and even asked if she could stay there. Obviously the answer was no. But the next day she was back asking again for blankets, socks, sweats, and shoes. But the day she stomped on my chairs and table I saw her throw away a pair of shoes someone had given her. She's asked my daughter more than once if she could stay in our apartment to which my daughter's reply is always no. I think she might have been mad at her saying no to her more than once and that's why she stomped over the table and chairs. I think she might be mentally ill to act the way she is.

----

On Wednesday I'm sitting at my dresser at 7am doing my makeup and see this guy walk over to the corner of the building across the street and urinate. The next morning at 4am he and his girlfriend woke me up when they were outside having a very loud argument. This is the same guy in the video below.

On Thursday I was sitting at my dresser in my room putting on my makeup and these two people started arguing. The door they keep going in and out of is the laundry room for that apartment complex and they have been staying in there at night. They are homeless and I've seen them smoking "meth or something" out of a pipe several times. They've been around here for years and they always argue like this. She is usually the one hitting him and then screams that he hit her first. You don't have to watch the whole thing, all they do is scream at each other but it gives you a good idea of what goes on pretty much every week with these two around here. The sun was right in my face which is why the video isn't too clean but if you turn the sound up you can hear them pretty well.

----

On Wednesday morning my daughter walked outside and several of the people around here told her that the Liquor Store that is in the Strip Mall right next door to where I live as seen in this post, was raided the night before and the owner was taken out in handcuffs and arrested for selling marijuana, cocaine, and meth out of his store. Everyone around here knows it's been going on there for years and everyone around here thought that he was paying the police off to leave him alone because he wasn't careful about who knew that he was selling drugs out of his store at all. Guess he wasn't paying them off after all.

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Review: New Moon by Lisa Kessler

Book Description

Jaguar shifter Sebastian Severino is an enigma. He lives alone, works alone, and will die alone. But the night he's attacked by a female werewolf, nothing will ever be the same. And when his young niece is kidnapped, Sebastian, the deadliest assassin Nero has ever produced, will be forced to choose a side...

Isabelle Wood has never taken the easy path. As a bounty hunter and now a bitten werewolf without a mate, she's searching for answers to her father's disappearance while helping to lead an Alphaless Pack. The night she gets the opportunity to take out their enemy, with her blade at his throat, her wolf discovers her mate in the last person she can be with.

My Review

I was really hoping that Sebastian would get his own book since he's been in the last two books that I've read. He intrigued me because I wasn't entirely sure what side he was on and I don't think he really knew when it came down to it who's side he was on either. His father is the head of The Nero Organization who had kidnapped people and did experiments on them. Now his father wanted to kidnap some of the family he didn't know existed until recently *or a couple of books ago* and do more experiments on them. He's not a good guy and Sebastian is really only following orders so that his father doesn't give the order to have him killed or worst.

Isabelle is Raven's sister and they were both in the last book I read. Raven is now Luke's mate and lives in Reno with his pack. Isabelle was turned into a wolf shifter when Raven bit her when they were being held hostage by the crazy alpha of their pack. Isabelle was a bounty hunter before she got turned and she's still working as one now.

Their first meeting isn't without a little drama, I mean she did stab him but then she got him medical help so it kinda sorted itself out. Ha! As soon as Isabelle touched Sebastian she knew that he was her fated mate. Sebastian is a jaguar shifter so I'm guessing that's why he didn't feel the pull of the mate bond as soon as she did. It took a little time for him to fall for her but it was obvious that she started getting under his skin right away.

Isabelle wants information about her father and how he died since she found out that he worked for the Nero Organization. She thinks that because Sebastian's father is the head of the organization and he works for his father that he will have some info for her but she knows he's the enemy because working for those people is what got her father killed. But Sebastian might not be the enemy that she thinks he is and she can't kill him once she knows he's her mate.

While they are trying to get things sorted between them, he finds out that his niece has been kidnapped by his father and he knows that his father plans on doing experiments on her so when his sister and brother in law ask for his help, he knows that he's going to help even though they don't like or trust him.

Sebastian's sister is mated to the alpha of the Reno pack and even though the alpha and most of the pack don't trust Sebastion, he's there to help save his niece. The danger was high, the action was great and the romance was so good. I really enjoyed this book. I read that there is a spin off series about the Sedona pack and now I'll have to read that too.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Review: A Dragon Speaks Her Name by Kira Nyte

Book Description

Kaylae Drayce is convinced she’s crazy. She hears voices in her head and dreams of fiery apocalyptic wars. That’s nothing compared to the terror she feels when the only people she loves are taken from her and she’s forced to run for her life all the way to Nocturne Falls. The town promises her one of two things: Answers to her madness or a one-way ticket to an asylum.

Zareh Lutherone is shattered to discover the Firestorm dragons’ ancient enemy has found and murdered his Keeper. He is plotting his next move in preparation for another war when a beautiful stranger literally falls into his arms. He doesn’t know who she is, only that the dragon inside him demands he protect her at all costs. It doesn’t take long to understand why.

Faced with a daunting task of convincing Kaylae she isn’t crazy—she is his Keeper and lifemate—just got complicated. Their enemy is hot on their tail and will stop at nothing to get their hands on Kaylae in order to destroy the last of an ancient dragon race.

My Review

When Kaylae is told by her uncle to get in the car and run away, she does just that and follows the clues in the letters that she finds along the way to get to Nocturne Falls. She meets Zareth in Nocturne Falls and he immediately knows that there's something special about her.

As soon as Zareth realizes who Kaylae is and who she is related to, he understands his pull towards her. She is his keeper and his lifemate. A keeper is the eyes and ears of the dragon out in the world and Zareth is a dragon shifter. He's been on the run from an enemy who wants him dead and also killed Kaylae's family. The enemy would also kill her if they get the chance to do so. So he and his clan have no choice but to prepare for the enemy to make an appearance because they know they're out there trying to find all of them.

The enemy were called The Baroqueth and they wanted the dragons powers. They found out that if they killed the dragons, they could take in the dragon powers as their own. Of course one of the Baroqueth found them in Nocturne Falls and Kaylae finds herself in danger. This doesn't end on a cliffhanger but they aren't able to take out the Baroqueth so I'm sure we'll see more of them in subsequent books. I really like how this ended and I really like how Zareth and Kaylae find themselves so attracted to each other. I found this book to be a really fun one.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

All About Falcor

Falcor is turning 7 years old in May. We've had him since he was 6 months old. One of our old apartment managers had him but she and her husband abused him and kept him in a dog pen all the time. We didn't know any of this until she got fired and some of the other residents told Ken what was going on. so Ken asked her is he could take Falcor since she was moving and had said she really didn't want him. So we got him.

He loves Spring time because he loves to sniff all the wild flowers and all the new weeds and grass that grows around here at that time.

This is something that he does all the time. He will stick his back legs out and just stand there stretching.

He makes some of the funniest faces.

My daughter and I realized that if you put your finger near Falcor's neck, he will snarl and growl at you.

He won't bite anyone but he will snarl when he's playing and it's so funny. sometimes he'll start snarling and growling out of the blue and then start running around the apartment with the zoomies. He'll stop, snarl and growl and run off again until he gets tired.

Falcor is really curious when I get a package or am taking pictures for the blog. He will photobomb me almost every time.

I was trying to take a picture of the pillow I got and Falcor was right there to help. Plus, I think he likes his picture taken. lol

I was trying to get a picture of this because I got this for my grandson and Falcor jumped up there to see what it was.

I was getting a picture of these books I won a while back and there's Falcor. When I get a box or package in the mail, he sits right by me until I show him what was in the box. He's always excited when his food and treats come from Chewy because then he gets a treat.

Review: Big Bad Billionaire by Saranna DeWylde

Book Description

Blake Woolven is the bad boy CEO of Woolven Industries, but he’s badder than the luscious, BBW Randi Rutger would’ve guessed. After Woolven took down her father’s company and devoured it like a shaking rabbit, she’s determined to get close to him and make all the Woolvens pay for destroying her father. Blake knows Randi’s agenda, but the wolf inside him will do anything to have her. Even expose the Woolven family secret. When Randi sees Blake and his brothers shed their skins beneath the moon, she’s terrified. But it’s just what she needed to bring him low—that and the silver nitrate plasma gun her father designed. With her loyalties torn, Randi must choose between avenging her father and the big bad wolf who clawed his way into her heart.

My Review

Randi thinks that Blake killed her scientist father so she is out to ruin him anyway she can. She stands up to him in his office and offers to break the code on the project her father was working on if Blake gives her a job but she lets him know that she plans to take him down and ruin him for what she thinks he's done.

Blake is a werewolf and as soon as he meets Randi, he knows that she is his mate. Only problem is she hates him and blames him for her father killing himself. Her father was a scientist and was working on some secret project for Blake's company but now he needs Randi to read the code that her father put all of his notes in.

After signing all the papers to come work for Blake, she is informed that she is to take up residence where he lives because that's where her father's lab was and where he and his family live. Randi doesn't know what to believe when Blake shows interest in her because not only does she think someone like him would never go for her but he knows that she is there to ultimately bring him down. But no matter what she thinks, she cannot ignore how he makes her feel when he turns on the charm and after she starts to believe that he really does like her she finds out something about him that changes things.

Along with the struggling relationship, there seems to be a war brewing between the different wolf packs. Not only that but a certain vampyr (Vampire) crossed Blake and he's not happy about it.

Randi is no shrinking violet. She can hold her own and ends up being one badass heroine who can stand up to whoever she needs to. Which is why when she finds out what Blake and his family are, she freaks out a little but quickly comes to terms with it. She seems to take everything that's thrown at her and it was a lot, with grace. Sure, a girl needs a little time to come to terms with things but she does and proves that she is very much the right mate for an alpha.

There's a huge twist and a few turns that don't seem to go the way I was thinking. The overarching plot is left open for this series but the romance between these two is concluded by the end of this book. I'll have to read the next book to find out what happens with the vampyr's, his uncle's new bride and the war.

I really liked this book and look forward to reading the next book in this series.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #239

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 22 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 23 years here in a weekly blog post.

On Tuesday I was walking Falcor and spotted this used syringe on the sidewalk. I used a piece of paper to pick it up and throw it in the garbage. Don't need the little kids around here getting a hold of something like this.

Then on Thursday I was out walking Falcor and looked in the rocks that my apartment complex has instead of grass and spotted something. You probably don't see it...

This is what I saw in the rocks...a crack pipe. And again, I carefully put it in the trash. I don't care if people want to do drugs, that's on them but don't leave your paraphernalia just laying about for kids to find.

And the hits just kept coming this week! On Friday I started seeing the orange tops from the needles, all over the ground so I started keeping an eye out because I had a feeling there would be more dirty needles laying around and I was right. To the left of the syringe there's the orange top to the needle. They couldn't even be bothered to put the cap back on and throw the needle away in the trash can that wasn't 15 feet away.

A few minutes later I spotted yet another used needle and orange cap about 20 feet from the last one. It pisses me off that these idiots won't even put the cap back on the used syringe. There are lots of kids around here and people walking their dogs. All of these needles are in the places that the homeless people around here usually gather or sleep. There are trash cans near here and so I picked them all up and disposed of them. It's beginning to be a real problem around here as you can see. I'm sure I'm not the only one walking their dog and putting these things in the trash.

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.
