Book Review: Feral by Trish Heinrich

Book Description

Humans and Werewolves do not mix. I tried that once and all I have to show for it is a broken heart. No thanks.

When I have to pretend that Daphne is my mate in order to find the mystical artifact threatening my clan, I know it’s going to end badly. But I’ll do anything to save my family, so I decide to act like the cheerful bookworm with the body of a goddess doesn’t affect me in the least.

Which was a big fat lie even before I discovered the one thing that would make all of this ten times more complicated. You see Daphne is my true mate.

Now every day that I spend with her is a special kind of torture. Her very touch makes my body burn with desires I’d buried a long time ago. I need to claim Daphne, to make her mine.

But I can’t, I won’t. She may accept that I’m a Werewolf, but Daphne doesn’t know the dark beast that lurks under my skin. If she did, she’d run screaming.

So I’m going to keep my distance, for both our sakes. And when the mission is done, I’m setting her free. Even if I have to tear my heart out to do it.

Warning: Feral is a steamy standalone monster romance in the Monsters & Artifacts series. It has a grumpy Scottish Werewolf, a sunny bookworm, primal chases, outdoor ‘fun’, size difference and enough fake relationship angst to keep you up all night. It definitely has an HEA. CW include body image issues, emotional abuse, biting.

My Review

Daphne works at the artifacts warehouse called The Archive. They track down mystical artifacts and keep them safely away from anyone so they can't harm anyone. But the last person in charge was horrible so a bunch of the paranormals who used to work there quit and want nothing to do with her boss or this place. But The Archive is the only place that can help when an artifact gets loose.

When Fraser's pack ends up having some issues that he needs to help with, he asks The Archive for help and Daphne is assigned to help but she has to pose as his mate and that means Fraser has to bite her. The only problem is she really is Fraser's mate and it's killing him to be around her and not touch her how he really wants. But he's been in a relationship with a human before and it ended with his heart being broken and he doesn't want that again so he tries to keep an emotional distance from Daphne which isn't easy since she is sunshine, bubbly and smiles. He on the other hand is a bit grumpy but I liked it. A grumpy, Scottish, werewolf hero? Yes, please. But holy hot werewolves, Batman! Fraser is every werewolf fantasy I've ever had, all rolled into one. *Did I say that out loud?* Ha!

They are having trouble keeping things professional between them after he gave her the mating bite so she could accompany him back to his clan but they have to act like they like each other and when all that acting turns into real life feelings, it's all they can do to keep their hands off each other while they look for the artifact they came to find. The bite created a mating bond which just added to the feelings they were already having. Fraser was such a sweet guy and Daphne was so smart and fearless. I loved them together.

This is a true monster romance as he's not human at all, Fraser's true form is pretty much what you see there on the cover, a monster. But he can use a magical glamour to look like a human so he doesn't scare the mundanes ( humans). So when he and Daphne had their spicy time, he was in his true form. So if that prospect bothers you, you might not want to read this one. I loved it though.

This was such a good book so you know I'll be looking for the next book in this series.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Dragon's Oath by Sophie Stern

Book Description

A woman in danger…

A lost baby…

A long journey home…

Peggy is nothing special. As the night janitor at Westbridge High, she just wants to finish cleaning so she can hurry home and work on her art. For Peggy, nothing makes her feel more alive than when she’s standing in front of a canvas. Then one night, everything changes…

A woman in trouble runs up to Peggy and gives her a child. She begs Peggy to take the child to Fablestone where the baby will be safe. From what? Peggy doesn’t know. All she knows is that the two agents who show up on her doorstep the next day aren’t with the FBI, and she’d bet anything they’re scientists who want to get their hands on dragon’s blood.

That’s not going to happen.

Not on Peggy’s watch.

Peggy doesn’t have a choice. She has to get the baby to the Fablestone clan before the full moon ends. She has to reach Fablestone before it’s too late.

The fate of the clan is resting on Peggy, and she swore a dragon's oath to return the child to its rightful home.

She'll do whatever it takes, even if it costs her everything.

My Review

When Peggy gets off work, a woman holding a baby comes out of the dark and begs her to take her baby and bring the child to Fablestone. She makes her a promise to do so and then the woman grabs her arm and bites her. She's shocked by what transpired but she brings the baby home to think about what to do. She isn't sure if she should just bring the child to the police but something in her tells her not to and then two people knock on her door and question her if she's seen a woman with a baby. Peggy knows they aren't real authorities so she lies and says no. Peggy knows she has to keep her promise and bring the child to Fablestone so after some internet searching she sets off to this place with the child.

Once there she encounters a dragon shifter who knows who the baby is but because Peggy is a human, he doesn't trust her at first and that costs him precious time that he ends up finding out they didn't have. Once we find out who the woman was, who she was running from and why, we're off on a race against time to save the woman and others.

This was a great story about a race to get a child home, find her mother and save her. The romance between Peggy and the dragon shifter who saves her was a bit in the back of the story as they have other things they need to worry about.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Dragon's Masquerade by Dawn McGraw

Book Description

Get stuck in a snowstorm with this sexy dragon for a trick-or-treat with some heat!
A short romantic Halloween tail from the DRAGONDELL Series!

As problems went, she was a very small one...
But Farryn didn’t have time for problems; he was a dragon on a mission.
Izzy’s Halloween already sucked before the hot guy tried to lock her in the closet…
Why were all the sexy ones crazy?

When Izzy finds herself stuck in a snowstorm and accidentally crashing a masquerade wedding, this little human is in for a dragon-sized surprise.

If you love steamy, instalove, dragon shifter romance, with guaranteed happily ever afters between alpha males and their fated mates, then you won’t want to miss this action packed adventure.

My Review

I haven't read this series but this short novella looked fun so I read it and it was a fun one. Izzy gets stuck on the road after her car breaks down. She wonders into a masquerade party on Halloween and hopes to just stay in from the cold until she can find a phone or a charger to charge her phone. But the party is full of dragon shifters that she thinks are wearing elaborate dragon costumes.  When one of the dragon shifters tries to lock her in a closet for her own safety, she's having none of it and Farryn comes to her rescue.

Farryn can't let the little human be locked in a closet so he takes care of her so she'll blend in with the rest of the partygoers and she ends up feeling safe with him. Some of the other dragon shifters aren't as nice and want to cause problems. So while Farryn and Izzy are getting closer and getting to know each other, he has to try and stop his rival from messing things up.

This was such a cute, quick novella. I really liked Farryn and Izzy. Who wants to find their fated mate at a Halloween costume party full of dragon shifters? *raises hand* I offer myself as tribute. I want to go back and read this series now.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #294

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 25 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 25 years here in a weekly blog post.

On Monday night the fire truck and an ambulance showed up. They brought someone out on a stretcher and they were taken away to the ER.

A friend told me about an APP called Pulse that you can download and see why the fire department is in your area. They don't cover all places and they don't have the police on there but now I can see why the fire department is in the area. All it says is "Medical Emergency" but that's more info than I had before. If there's a fire, it will say that as well.  This was listed as a medical emergency.

On Tuesday an ambulance showed up right across the street.

When the fire department showed up a minute later I looked on the Pulse App and it said they were there for a medical emergency. It doesn't give much info but I'll know if it's a fire at least.

Later on that night the police were at the end of my apartment building with the lights on. Right before they showed up the police helicopter was flying really low around my apartment complex. Then several police cars pulled up across the street but those pictures didn't come out good. There were about four police cars in all plus an ambulance that showed up but left soon after. The fire truck showed up for a couple of minutes but they also left soon after. I went outside to get better pictures but one of the cops yelled at me and told me to go inside. They don't like it when you're trying to take pictures.

Like I said the pictures didn't come out so good because they were three buildings down from mine but still in my apartment complex. I took the dog outside and tried to get better pictures that didn't happen. There were at least 4 police cars out there and you can see the bright lights from their cars down the street. Several of the police cars were where that tiny blue light is. They were out there for about 2 hours but I have no idea what was going on.
----

When the fire dept. showed up on Wednesday, I looked on the Pulse App and it said "Structure Fire" It was in my courtyard and there was no smoke, no fire. The fire department only stayed about 3 minutes. I thought someone was burning the turkey for Thanksgiving. lol  I guess it can't be right every time. lol

This is what the Pulse App looks like when you pull it up. I circled where they came out for Wednesday. And since probably 75% of my blogger friends already have my address, I'm not worried about posting this. lol  If someone really wanted to stalk me, I doubt it would be too hard to find me anyway.

Thursday the police showed up for a domestic fight going on in my courtyard. One apartment had a bunch of people over and they had all been shouting at each other. It was Thanksgiving so that really doesn't surprise me but no one was arrested. Is it really Thanksgiving without a family fight where the police show up? lol

It was a full week.
I don't think the police, fire department and ambulances have ever showed up this much in one week. And these are just the instances that I noticed. There might have been more that I didn't see.

The high this week was 67F/19C
The low this week was 35F/1C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Book Review: A Demon's Touch By Ella Jade

Book Description

Demons aren’t supposed to have feelings. But I do, and that’s what made being condemned to earth my own personal hell.

As the only empathetic sex demon in history, being surrounded by emotional mortals is absolute torture. All I want is to get out of here.

Until I meet Harper Whitmore.

The last thing I expect is to fall in love with her. But just when I decide life on earth might not be so bad, Hell decides they want me back. And they’ve just put a bounty on her head to make me comply.

I have two choices: walk away from the woman I accidentally fell in love with...or fight for her, allowing her to discover that I’m nothing more than a monster. Either choice will condemn me to a life of misery, but for the first time in my life, I just want to do what’s good.

If only I knew what that was...

My Review

When Harper's uncle dies, Angelo decides that Harper will fill his shoes and become his new lawyer. But Angelo is a very rich, very secretive client that has very specific requirements for his lawyer. The most important one is that the lawyer has to come to his house because Angelo doesn't go to them, in fact he rarely goes anywhere except for business. This entire situation is very strange to Harper but she needs the job she has so when her boss tells her to go, she goes.

Meeting Angelo is intimidating not just because he's super rich but because he's very serious and sure of himself. What Harper doesn't know is that Angelo is a demon, a sex demon to be exact. But he's not a bad guy which was surprising. When some angels fall from heaven he will give them a place to stay and helps them as long as they help him. So Harper has no idea that the women at his place are fallen angels and when Angelo realizes that they are making her feel uncomfortable, he makes them all move out. Right away his people are seeing changes in him because of Harper and some of them are quite jealous. Of course that's going to be a problem that Angelo has to deal with eventually.

Angelo isn't all bad because his mother was an angel, like actual angel. His father was a demon so he's a bit of both bad and good but seemed more good than bad unless someone got on his bad side then all bets are off. Oh man, I loved Angelo, I love being able to root for the supposed bad guy who really isn't all that bad at all.

When Angelo's demon father starts taunting him to come back to hell and putting Harper in danger when he refuses, things start to ramp up and Angelo knows he's going to have to find a way to stop his demon father once and for all. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next book in this series now.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: The Dragon King by T.B. Wiese

Book Description

The Dragon King is a spin-off novella with characters from The Elemental. While it's not necessary to read The Elemental first, it will make the cameo appearances more enjoyable.
This is a dark paranormal romance with dragon shifters.

KEMREMIR
I am the King of the Dragon Shifters. I love my people. I love my kingdom. My abnormal strength, unique molten fire, and inky shadows helped me win & hold my throne. There have been many challengers after the crown, and I’ve fought and killed each one. This latest challenger will be no different.

But I have a new and unexpected motivation to win this time ... HER.
When Tatha walked into my castle, my dragon fire raged through my body ... calling to her.

My Mate.

TATHA
The Mountain has been my home my entire life. My clan prefers solitude, and we shunned our human forms centuries ago. Living as my dragon is all I've ever known. Yet, here I stand before the King, as a woman ... for the sake of my dying father.

Yet my body responds to the King. My dragon calls to him. But with a challenger after Kemremir's throne, I fear I may be the one vulnerability the king can't afford.

My Review

When Tatha visits Kem at his castle to ask a last request for her dying father, she never expected to find her mate but that's exactly what she finds. Kem knows right away that Tatha is his mate but she's there to help her dying father so he grants her request. But as they spend time together it's quite apparent that they can hardly keep their hands off each other. So while Kem is trying to give her space to grieve her father, he's also keeping her close because he doesn't want to lose her or for her to refuse him as a mate.

While all that is going on someone also challenges Kem to a fight for the throne but he's not worried since he is fierce and has beat all the other challenges. But this time they plan to cheat and Kem has someone that he cares about so it's not as easy as he thinks it is.

This book starts off a bit slow as we get to know all the parties involved and watch Tatha mourn her father. They are all dragons shifters so their customs are a big part of this story. I really liked Kem, he was gentle when he needed to be, gave her time to mourn her father while also making sure she knew he wanted her as a mate. But was a fierce King and had these neat shadows/smoke around him that none of the other dragons shifters had which made him very unique.

This was a very interesting and different dragon world from what I've read before so it was fun to learn about them and watch the romance blossom between Kem and Tatha, all the while people are plotting behind him to overtake the throne.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Dragon Fever by Elsa Jade

Book Description

He must find the heart of his dragon treasure. She will be the treasure of his dragon heart. The Nox Incendi dragons are dying. In a mysterious faux castle on the outskirts of Las Vegas, Rave Dorado has been struggling for centuries to find a cure for the creeping cold that is slowly turning his dragonkin to stone. Until his fiery gaze falls on a curvy, plucky female whose purity of spirit lights a flame in his icy soul… Piper Ramirez knew a girls’ night out with her two best friends at the world’s most exclusive casino would be beyond belief…but she had no idea just how far. Inexplicably drawn to the dark and sexy Rave, she’ll roll the dice and take a chance giving him her body, though he is too much of an enigma to truly trust. But the Nox Incendi shifters aren’t the only one with secrets in Sin City. Piper will have to open her eyes to a strange new world and Rave will have to open his heart if they want to survive the dragon fever.

DRAGON FEVER is a standalone dragon shifter paranormal romance with a Happily Ever After for the heroine and her hero. Although we suspect there maybe be more brooding dragon lords longing for their mates!

My Review

This books starts off with Piper and her two girlfriends going on a night out to a Las Vegas casino where she has a bit of a fight with her friends who leave her at the bar. Rave is watching the cameras and spots Piper alone and he is pulled towards her. She has no idea who he is when he introduces himself to her and buys her a drink. Since he owns the casino he can order the good stuff for them. They feel a pull towards each other and she ends up following him back to his lair, yes lair because he's a dragon shifter but she doesn't know that.

After spending the night together Rave goes back to his lab where he finds he has found a cure for his people turning to stone or he thinks. But things are not that easy because Piper is his mate and there are others who put her in danger.

Secrets are revealed and truth's have to be realized which can be hard to swallow.

While this started off a little slow, I'm glad I stuck with it because it got a lot better. I really liked that it was set in Las Vegas where I live. There was dragons, bad guys, romance, danger and a curse that hopefully will be healed once all the brothers find their mates. I'm looking forward to reading the next book now.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #293

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 25 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 25 years here in a weekly blog post.

Trigger Warning: There are a lot of bugs in this post.

This past Sunday afternoon I walked past my bedroom window while walking Falcor and saw spots on the wall by my bedroom window. I got closer and was just shocked.

There were so many roaches, flying roaches, water bugs and who knows what else on the wall and all around my bedroom window because once again the raw sewage was leaking out of the overflow.

I went out there with the bug spray and there were so many more hiding near my window than I thought there was. I used damn near an entire bottle of raid on their asses. There are about 200 dead bugs out there after I was done. I sprayed a big one and it FLEW at me. I almost tripped and fell down getting away from it.

My neighbor was in her car with her husband and when I was walking back she and her husband were laughing their butts off at me. LOL

I felt like I was starring in a Horror movie that I never auditioned for...It's a Bug's Life: Horror Edition!

I kept checking to make sure more weren't coming. I was so completely disgusted. And of course it was on A Sunday so I couldn't even call maintenance. And the tenant portal is down for updates so I couldn't make a work order for the raw sewage leaking all over the place.

The video isn't great so here's some pictures in case you couldn't make out what was on the video.

As I walked by I just saw a bunch of little dark spots on the wall near my bedroom window. I didn't realize they were roaches, water bugs and flying roaches until I got closer. And there were so many more on the ground than on the wall.

All those black spots right under my window sill were roaches from the sewer. I used almost the entire can of Raid killing all of these damn bugs. There were so many more hiding around my air conditioner that I didn't see until I started spraying and the ones on the ground started crawling frantically as the bug spray drifted down on them.

If you couldn't make this out in the video. There are a bunch of them on top of the cap to the pipe and around the pipe on the ground. Believe me, I didn't want to be out there doing this but I'm the only one here to do it so just call me The Terminator.

Well, that's enough for this week. Ugh

The high this week was 75F/23C
The low this week was 48F/8C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

As an American, How Many Times A Day Do We See The American Flag?

I saw a comment on Twitter a while back that said Americans display the American flag on a lot of things and when they moved here from other countries they weren't expecting to see it everywhere. I think I was just so used to seeing it all over the place that I really didn't notice how many times a day I would see it. So I thought I would take a picture every time I saw the American Flag in one day and see how many times that would be. We are a very patriotic people so I figured I would see a few. I never left my neighborhood for this either.

The first one I spotted was on the back of this guys truck. He had two American Flags back there.

While out walking with Falcor, I noticed the one by McDonald's.

Right next to the McDonald's. I'm not sure if all McDonald's have them displayed.

The show I was binge watching this week I noticed that most of the people in Law Enforcement and Government jobs were wearing flag lapel pins.

If you've watched Billions, you might have seen this.

Flag postage stamps.

There's a flag on the apartment building right next to mine.

I remember after 9/11 everyone had a flag on their car and their homes. I did as well. It was a way to show solidarity with all other Americans, it was a symbol that binds us together. Personally, it's a symbol of pride and respect. I feel lucky to live in the US, and see the flag as a symbol of the US and respect it because of that.

I think a lot of Americans feel the same way and that's why we display our flag so often.

Book Review: Demon King by Elizabeth Briggs

Book Description

I made a deal with the devil. Now he claims I'm his fated mate.

When my best friend goes missing in Las Vegas, there’s only one man I can turn to for help. Lucas Ifer. Billionaire playboy. CEO of Abaddon Inc. King of Sin City. And…the devil himself? Lucas—aka Lucifer—agrees to help me, but in exchange he wants one thing: me.

He’s dark, dangerous, and wickedly handsome. Oh, and evil incarnate. I should say no, but I can’t. I’m that desperate. But when you make a deal with the devil, there's no escaping it. Now he owns my body for seven nights of sin. Even worse, he says I'm his fated mate and that we have a past stretching back through time—but I don't remember any of it.

I’m Persephone being claimed by Hades, and I have no choice but to enter his underworld and become his dark queen. Is there any light left in that black heart? Or will his darkness consume me?

Demon King is a sinfully sexy Hades and Persephone story with a Lucifer twist. This is book 1 in the Claimed By Lucifer trilogy - a complete series.

My Review

Hannah travels to Las Vegas to get the help of Lucas Ifer (Lucifer) to help find her best friend, Brandy who disappeared in one of his hotels and is now missing. But there's a always a price for his help and his price to help Hannah find her friend is to stay with him for seven days. Hannah gladly takes the deal even though she's not sure what he plans to do with her. But to her surprise, he just spends time with her and buys her clothes, food and takes her out to nice places. I love that this story is set in Las Vegas where I live.

Hannah isn't sure what Luc is playing at by being so nice to her and not forcing her into his bed but she made a deal and is sticking with it so long as he keeps having his people searching her Brandy. Along the way Hannah learns that Luc is really the devil, the real Lucifer, king of hell and all of "his people" are actually demons or other paranormals that follow him.

So many secrets come out about Hannah and who she really is as Luc tries to win over her heart. But even though she falls for him, she can see that he is powerful and sometimes has to do things that shock her. He's Lucifer after all. But by the end of this I was rooting for them to be together and then this ended on a small cliffhanger. But at the end of the book there is the first chapter for the next book in the series and that small cliffhanger is filled in, so just keep reading is my advice to you.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Defiant Mate by Delta James

Book Description

The sound of a cord snapping abruptly ends her climb, leaving her stranded as an arctic storm bears down. Can Asher find his mate before she freezes to death?

Nicole is done with men. Her husband left her for a thinner and younger model and never looked back. She has worked hard to be an independent, successful woman without a man. Although she is still a curvy woman, she is healthy and loves outdoor activities. Climbing Pyramid Mountain is the next adventure on her list of things she wants to accomplish. So why does she feel drawn to Asher, the know-it-all US Forest Ranger telling her she can’t make her climb?

Asher Wells has found his mate, at last. He should have known that his spirited, fated mate wasn’t going to listen to reason. With an arctic storm bearing down on them, she was hell-bent on Pyramid Mountain for her first solo, technical climb. Luckily he managed to get an emergency beacon into her pack. Unfortunately, something has happened and Nicole has activated it.

Come visit Mystic River, Alaska. A small, remote town that has always been a safe community for different types of shifters. These shifters are gorgeous, possessive, and finding their fated mate is high on their priority list.

Take a walk on the wild side with these curvy heroines, their sexy fated mates, and scenes that sizzle.

My Review

Nicole travels to Alaska where she's picked Pyramid Mountain to be her first solo climb. Thankfully she meets Asher before her climb and he gives her an emergency beacon just in case she runs into trouble up there. Asher is a US Forest Ranger as well a a shifter and tries to tell her that the mountain can be tricky, especially for her first solo. But she is determined to go and when she does, one of her ropes snap and she gets stuck, having to use the emergency beacon.

The mystery around what happened to her rope to make it snap as well as her finding out that Asher thinks she's his mate was a great story and a great way for these two to get closer and get to know each other better. I thought I knew for sure who the bad guy was, I mean it should be pretty obvious but boy was I wrong. I love when a twist doesn't turn out the way I thought it would and the story keeps me guessing.

This was a fun story, I loved Asher and Nicole has such a great attitude about everything she goes through.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #292

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 25 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 25 years here in a weekly blog post.

On Tuesday the police showed up in my courtyard because their bedroom window was busted out and the screen was torn. I don't know who did it but I didn't see much glass on the outside which leaves me to believe the glass was punched from the outside and fell towards the inside. Maybe someone was trying to break in while they were gone? I'm not sure. The officer stood there and looked like he was taking a report.

So a few weeks ago this guy who lives in my courtyard came up to me while I was walking Falcor and just said, "Wanna F*ck?" I was sure I misheard him so I asked him to repeat what he said and he did. I stopped, looked him up and down, laughed and said no. This man practically ran back to his apartment. I didn't see him for about a week and then when he saw me he would walk back to his apartment. Now he just won't look me in the eye. lol  I mean does that line actually work? Good grief.

He's been acting stranger and stranger lately which leads me to believe either drugs or mental illness. He stood here for about 30 minutes just like this on the rock. He's always wearing over the ear headphones when he's out and he is here too which you might not be able to make out.

The high this week was 80F/26C
The low this week was 43F/6C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Favorite Song of the Week

Pop Evil- Skeletons

I love Pop Evil and since some of the songs I have posted recently seemed to be too hard for some of you, I thought you might like this one better. He has such a great voice and it's nice that he can actually sing. Enjoy.

Freebie Friday!

Welcome to another weekly Freebie Friday post, where I tell you what free samples and full sized products I received in the mail and how you can get them too. Someone asked me why I do a "Freebie Friday" each week, so I'll tell you.

A while back I listed all the free samples and wins that I had received that previous year and so many people didn't believe that I could have gotten so many free things. So I decided to prove it by taking a picture every week and sharing the sites that I found the links to the freebies at. So now you too can get great free samples coming to your mailbox each week.

You can find links to great samples at Hey It's Free and Freebie Shark.

This week I received a sample of

La Roche Posay kids sunscreen.

Hey, I finally received a free sample this week. I'll let my grandson have this one.

Book Review: Death is Easy by Letty Frame

Book Description

When you’ve lost literally everything but your own life, can you learn to be loved or will you give up fighting the negative voice in your head and finally lose yourself completely?

Nora Hart is twenty-four years old, but she’s lost everything, rebuilt her life, fought through grief and worse, all while managing to avoid the shifter world that broke her in the first place.

Despite her near death and struggle for survival all on her own, she’s done quite well and has created a pretty normal life for herself. Despite all that, fate isn’t done messing with her.

Her heart and soul aren’t ready to open up to new mates, and may never be, but fate has brought them into her life anyway, causing her to move across the country as she tries to deny her connections and keep some semblance of the life she’s created.

Not only that, but that little voice in her head begging for death is back stronger than ever, those from her past who broke her down are back for more, and now she’s being hunted by humans out to rid the world of shifters.

Will she be strong enough to get through all of this, to find herself again and have a happy life, or will her struggle finally come to an end?

Death is Easy is the first instalment in the Second Chances trilogy. This series is a medium-burn reverse harem romance, and there is a guaranteed HEA at the end of the third book.

My Review

Nora was so excited when she turned 18 years old and would be able to find her mate. As a shifter their animals know when they find their mates and it's really hard to fight that bond. So when she comes face to face with her destined mate and it's her alpha's son, she's thrilled and for a moment she thinks he is too. But then he rejects her and she's thrown out of her pack and moved to some small town. Even her own family throws her away. It takes a long time for Nora to finally pick up the pieces of her life but when she's through the worst of it, she finds her animal is gone and she can no longer shift.

When her boss gives her a new job in a new place, she doesn't realize at first it's because he's a lion shifter and knows that she is his mate. But because of the hurt she's gone through, she doesn't recognize him as her mate right away. To make matters even stranger, a few other males see her and know right away that she's also their mates. The males will have to find a way to work together to make her realize that she's worthy of a mate and she's not as broken as she thinks she is.

But after starting to have feelings for some of the males and starting to realize that she might be happy with them, her cat decides to show her that she's still there inside her, she's just broken and doesn't see these new males as her mates.

Nora's cat is giving her all kinds of problems once she wakes up from where she's been hiding after they were rejected. This story took a decidedly darker turn towards the end that I wasn't expecting and wasn't sure how this would end. All the new mates in her life did a really good job of taking care of her though. This book was full of surprises as well as alpha males that wanted nothing more than to take care of their mate.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.
