A Serial Killer's Desire by C.F. Rabbiosi

Book Description

He's a rich bad boy. She's a damaged beauty... Same old story?
Not even close.

Because he's not just gorgeous, he's deadly. He lures women into his deceptive web and tortures them into submission, LOVES them to death, and won't stop until they've fallen for their captor. Won't stop until they've loved him with their last breath...

But this time, he's taken the wrong girl. This time, he may be captured instead, his heart chained by an astonishingly well matched foe.

My Review

The description of this book is what made me read this one. I've always had an unnatural fascination with serial killer's so after reading the description and a couple of reviews, I figured I'd give this one a shot. It sounded different from what I usually read and I was right, it's different...and dark. Unless you have a strong stomach, a fascination with how a serial killer's mind works and are in the mood for some twisted scenes, I wouldn't recommend this one. But if that sounds good then by all means give this one a try because it will take you on the dark, twisted ride of your life. Holy hell, this guy is one sick, demented dude.

Antone kidnaps Jynn but he might have found his match with her because she has the same dark, twisted tendencies that he does. That by itself made this story interesting and totally flipped the story at one point which made me even more interested. These two together are one twisted mind fuck after another but I think that's what kept me reading and enthralled in the story.

This story was hitting me pretty hard, the dark nature of his fantasies and what he does is disturbing beyond belief but when Jynn enters the picture and he realizes that he now has someone that he might want to keep around instead of killing, it makes him think twice. I was on a hell of a ride...and then it ended on a cliffhanger. I wanted to throw my Kindle across the room. That's one of the reasons I read a few reviews before reading a book if I can help it but none of the reviews said anything about a cliffhanger. So I'm letting you know...there's a cliffhanger. Grrrr!

The story itself was good. Seeing inside a serial killer's mind was twisted but interesting. Their romance was scary as hell because of who they are and what they think. But the cliffhanger just ruined this for me. Give me an entire story or don't give me anything at all. This book would have rated much higher for me if it hadn't ended on a cliffhanger.

I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.

Review: Degustabox- October

DegustaBox is a monthly subscription box filled with food and drink products. The price for the box is $19.99 a month.

You do not get to pick any of the products you get, it's a surprise each month. But they say each box contains 10-15 items and each box is worth at least $30. I like trying boxes like this because they usually contain products that I've never tried or haven't seen before.

What was in this months box?

Brown & Haley Caramel Sea Salt Roca
Sixlets chocolate candy
Sixlets fruit candy
Tastycake peanut butter candy cake
Tastycake chocolate icing cake
Pirates Booty white cheddar popcorn-4
Bush's Best Crisp Roasted Chick Peas
Welch's Fruit Snacks
Bahlsen chocolate waffles
Garoto candybar
Idahoan Foods Potato Soup Mix
Peanut butter chips

This months box was a good one. Our daughter was over when the box was delivered so we all sat around trying different foods that we hadn't had before. I think my entire family has a big sweet tooth so those candies were gone fast. The chocolate waffle crisps were tried and liked by all and so was the Roca.

The crispy chick peas were really good in salad. I was surprised even though I hate garlic and these are roasted garlic flavor but they were good.

We sat around tasting a bit of this and that until most everything had been opened.

We haven't tried the Potato Soup mix or the peanut butter chips yet. Everything else has been tasted, sampled and liked. We always have a good time with these boxes. It's fun to try foods that I wouldn't have normally bought.

If you don't live in the US, they have a Great Britain Website.

If this box looks like something you'd like, you can use code MARYK-ACB and get your first box half off. That's a big box of food for only $10! and you can cancel anytime. So if you're interested, go to the DegustaBox site and sign up and don't forget to use my code to get your first box for just $10.

Have you tried any of these products?

Review: Sentinel of Darkness by Katie Reus

Book Description

She thought she’d put her past behind her…

Local artist Keva might be human, but she knows about the things that go bump in the night. Years ago, a dragon shifter saved her from certain death. Ever since, she’s lived in his clan’s territory and put her life back together. But the feeling of security is only an illusion, because her past has come back to haunt her. A past with claws and fangs, demanding blood.

He’ll do whatever it takes to defend his mate…

Dagen has finally met his mate—except he insults her the first time they meet. He’s not too proud to grovel to get back into her good graces. But when a threat from her past emerges, he realizes that he’ll do anything to keep her safe. Even if it means dying—or losing her forever.

My Review

Keva lives on the dragon clan's territory ever since a dragon saved her life years ago. She's finally putting her life back together when danger comes looking for her. Dagen and Keva met in an elevator when they were on their way to a meeting and they don't get off on the right foot. Dagen goes to her shop and apologizes to her about what happened during their first meeting. He knows that she's his mate and wants to spend time with her so he ends up asking her out. They start getting to know one another and getting along. She doesn't want to date anyone or get involved but she agrees to be friends with him not knowing that he sees her as a mate.

Then a shifter wolf from her past shows up and threatens her and Dagen takes things into his own hands to protect her. I loved how protective he was about her and how safe she felt when he was around. When the danger ramps up Dagen's clan helps out keeping her safe and battling the people who want to hurt her. But she's no push over and proves that she can take care of herself when she has to.

I love dragon shifter stories and this novella was a great quick read that showed the dragons quite a few times. It was filled with romance, danger and fight scenes. I loved Dagen's crazy clan and am looking forward to reading more about them now.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #49

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 20 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 20 years here in a weekly blog post.

In May of this year Ken and I heard a lot of yelling and screaming from across the street. We were looking out our bedroom window and saw the people in that courtyard running up and down the stairs and going into other apartments. Within 5 minutes of this happening, the first police car pulled up and they ran over to the stairs with their guns drawn.

They brought a few people down stairs and talked with them for a few minutes.

A minute or so later, several more police cars showed up and ran over to the stairs and more people came down to talk with the police.

The police stood around talking to everyone for a few minutes.

Then the fire truck and ambulance pulled up and went up stairs. But they all came back down stairs within a few minutes and left.

Ken talked to someone that lives over there a little while later and found out what happened. One guy got out of prison and was living with his mom and brother. They all got into an argument and the brother who just got out of prison pulled a gun on the mother. She came down stairs and called the police on her son. But when the police came they couldn't find the gun and so no one was arrested. But because she said he had a gun there were over 9 police cars that responded on this street and in the alley behind them.

One more thing...

Earlier this week my neighbor started screaming. Then she and her boyfriend ran out to the alley. She said the two guys that had been at her door pulled a gun on them and when she screamed the two guys took off. I saw the whole thing go down from where I was sitting and Ken had been outside and saw the two guys running away. She said she was calling the cops but an hour and half went by and no cops showed up so I'm guessing she didn't call. It was probably a drug deal gone bad anyway. Everyone's door came bursting open when she started screaming.

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Review: Feral King by Sparrow Beckett

Book Description

Minnow Korsgaard works a dead end job to make ends meet. When she’s hired to take care of a wealthy old man with no social skills, she’s excited to have found work in her field.

The new boss isn’t at all what she expected.

Severin Leduc is only thirty. He’s also a dominant, tattooed brute who needs someone to break through the walls he’s built. The exiled son of a wealthy family, he’s unapologetically rude and eccentric. Raised by servants, he doesn’t want extra people in his life, let alone a pretty girl who refuses to leave him in peace.

Minnow’s submissive nature sparks against Severin’s dominance. Torrid attraction flares between them. Sharing her with his best friend, Rodrigo, only strengthens their growing bond, and Severin’s life is scattered into chaos. Will he learn to trust her, or will he live the rest of his life forgotten?

Warning: Dark themes. Character's memories of prior abuse may disturb some readers.

My Review

Minnow is hired to take care of Severin or to help make sure he takes care of himself. Severin is a Dominant and a Sadist while Minnow is submissive and a Masochist. This does make for some very intense scenes but everything was consensual. Severin didn't have much family left but his brother wanted him to give Minnow and chance. Maybe get more socialized as he called it because Severin didn't like being around people and didn't know how to act around them, therefore he was just an ass to everyone. Minnow really had her work cut out for her with this job. Most people would have quit that first day but Minnow stuck with it.

Severin had so many flaws, his anger was the biggest one. He became angry over everything because he didn't know how else to act or react. At first I just thought he was an ass but as time went on it became very apparent that he had a lot of emotional issues and abandonment issues that he never worked through. But the fact that he had so many people that cared about him really said something about his character.

Minnow was wonderful, absolutely wonderful. She might have been a submissive but she was strong willed and determined and never backed down when he became verbally abusive or acted like a jerk. She brought him out of his shell, made him face up to his mistakes and when these two got together, hot damn, they were smokin' hot!

I liked that even though Severin knew he was a dominant sadist, he knew he didn't know much about the lifestyle and didn't have qualms about asking his friend, Rodrigo questions about what to do with her. Some of the things he did were over the top but Minnow was into it and liked how out of control he was at times so I didn't have any bad feelings at some of the crazy shit he did to her and with her.

I read this book in one sitting because I never knew where Severin would take me next or what this crazy dude would do next. He kept me guessing and I liked that. When I found out why Severin is the way he is, I wanted to stalk and hurt those who hurt him. His story brought out my inner serial killer and I can only hope they all got a hot poker to an eye or some other terrible event befell them. This story was emotional, touching and crazy. I loved it!

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Review: Kiss of the Fallen by Kharma Kelley

Book Description

Tristan Castilion, a celebrated Commander of the Vampire Royal Guard, just wanted to be left alone. He wanted nothing to do with the war brewing among all the supernaturals and had grown tired of fighting all these centuries. All of them were screwed up anyway; but who was he to judge who drinks blood and who eats souls?

Sucked into one last mission from his vampire government, Tristan soon finds himself in the middle of a dark conspiracy within the vampire ranks and a half-naked demon chained to his bed.

And not just any old demon…
Zoe is a Black Blood Slayer—legendary demons bred to do one thing: kill vampires. A true ruler of the night, she's forced to keep her lethal wiles at bay in order to uncover the truth, creating an unlikely partnership with Tristan.

Her blood is spiked with a desire he longs to tame, but if he does, he could be six-feet under; this time forever. But with both of them on the run and all hell breaking loose, how can he be sure she wants him to love or to destroy?

My Review

Tristan accepts one more mission and expects it to go well but things don't always go as we planned. Even though he planned well and no one but the vampires should have known the route he'd take, they were waiting to ambush him and the woman he was charged with keeping safe. It's a bloodbath and his own government doesn't believe him when he tells them what happened. He knows he'll have to get to the bottom of what happened.

Zoe finds herself at the mercy of a vampire, that vampire being Tristan. He doesn't know whether to believe her and help her or kill her and be done with it. Zoe is a Black Blood Slayer and could easily enthrall him, make him weak and kill him and there would be nothing he could do to stop her. But he goes against his better judgement and trusts her, only a little at first then more as time goes on and she proves she's trustworthy. But that trust goes both ways and she has to trust him as well if they both want to get to the bottom of missing and murdered people.

This book is filled with a great mystery, some romance towards the last half of the book and a look into vampire politics. There are a few instances of action, fighting and spilled blood but you have to expect that when you have both vampires and shifters in the same book. I liked the twists this story took that left us readers wondering what was going on and why. I also enjoyed how the story never slowed down and I never found myself bored. I read this book in 2 hours, I needed to know what was going to happen next, who the good guys and bad guys were and what was going to happen to them and how Tristan and Zoe would leave things. I really liked how this book ended and hope that this ends up being a series that I can sink my teeth into (pun intended).

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Disclosure: I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Review: Walmart Beauty Box- Fall

The Walmart Beauty box is a subscription box that comes out 4 times a year. You sign up for it and it comes automatically every 3 months. These boxes are free and shipping is $5.

I was surprised when the Fall box came so quickly. Usually I don't get it for at least another month or even closer to December but they shipped this one out and I got it fast. I have to say it's much better than the last one I received with all the foil packet sized samples.

What was in this box?

Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Bar.
2 Cetaphil hydrating eye gel creams.
Soo'ae Collagen Lip Patch.
Nivea Aloe Vera Lotion.
Kleenex Wet Wipes.
Soo'ae Black Charcoal Bubble Sheet Mask.
Aveeno Positively Radiant Sheer Daily Mositurizer.
Pantene Foam Conditioner.
Maybelline Great Lash Mascara.

I've tried all of these products before except for that Lip Mask. I like all of these products and even buy some of them from time to time like the Aveeno moisturizer. So I was pleased with this box this month. For just $5 for shipping, it's a nice box to try even though it's hit or miss sometimes with what they send you.

Did you get this box?

Apartment Life #48

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 20 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 20 years here in a weekly blog post.

We've lived in this apartment for 20 years and we've gone through at least 9 apartment managers that I can remember. About 15 years ago we were friends with the manager we had and she asked me to take some pictures for her and email to her since she didn't have a phone or a camera. The camera I had was a POS and didn't have a flash so the pictures aren't great but they do tell a story. The manager evicted this couple and their 4 kids because people were complaining about the fights, the noise, the cops always being at their apartment and about people constantly knocking on their door all hours of the day and night...staying for 10 seconds and leaving. We suspected they were dealing drugs. So they got evicted, left a huge mess, damage and then fought the eviction in court and wanted their security deposit back. So she used these pictures to show the judge why she refused to give them back their security deposit.

This is the room where all 4 kids slept and it was a mess. There were bunk beds and a crib in this room. There was a newborn, a 1 year old, 3 year old and a 5 year old.

This was the kitchen.

The living room.

The front door had been kicked in a few times so the door was broken in several places.

Most of the walls had holes in them. This looked like someone had kicked it a few times.

There was so much stuff packed into the kids bedroom, there was hardly any room to walk around.

But the worst thing we found was the lock on the outside of the bedroom door. The manager said she was going to point that out to the judge. I don't know if he sent children's protective services to their new place or not though. I can only hope so. About 2 weeks later they came and packed their stuff up and left with it.

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Tall, Dark and Stormy by Mickey Miller

Book Description

Sorority Secrets: The virgins of Beta Kappa Nu would do anything for each other. Even auction off their most valuable asset…

They say I’m a rich, bitter a**hole who isn’t capable of normal feelings.

Well, they say a lot of things.

And they don’t know shit.

You don’t become a billionaire without a strain of obsession bubbling within you. Strong and true, like a deep blue pilot light.

It’s true, I don’t suffer fools. And I don’t have time to become emotionally involved.

I loved once before. This is my curse. It keeps me focused.

Until I see Stacy’s ad. The office intern, auctioning off her virginity for charity, right there on the screen.

A gorgeously seductive photo, followed by some of the dirtiest erotic fantasies I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading.

And they’re about me. Her boss.

I’ll be damned if one of these tasteless men with no appreciation for this smart, beautiful angel will be her first.

If anyone has her, it’s going to be me.

Like I said, I’m a man of obsession.

For those times when size does matter. The Dirty Bits from Carina Press: quick and dirty, just the way we like it.

My Review

As soon as I started reading this I disliked Jack right away. He had just fired a couple of people and it made him feel like a badass. Sure the guy he fired had it coming after sending a female co-worker dick pics but that's beside the point. This guy was getting off on the power he held and I didn't like him.

Jack was curious about Stacey so he checked what she had been looking at on the work computers and saw she was auctioning off her virginity. He was shocked at first, then more curious and then intrigued. He decides to call Stacey into his office and let her know that he read what she wrote about him, her fantasies about him and the auction.

I really liked Stacey and after a while I liked Jack as well. They both have painful pasts and while Jack's past made him a bitter jerk, it made Stacey a better person. Jack remembers how he used to be before he was emotionally hurt and he realizes that Stacey is pulling that part out of him again. They get along really well and this story turns hot and sexy really fast.

This is a fast novella. It might be a quick read but it was hot, dark and steamy.

I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Review: Legendary Beast by Barbara J. Hancock

Book Description

She slept…

…his love didn’t

Once upon a time, Madeline was trapped in an enchanted sleep, her baby wrapped tight in her arms. Then the white wolf woke her, and her son disappeared. For centuries, Lev Romanov searched for his wife and their child, and the search drove him half-mad. Can Madeline trust the wolf to be the man who can help her save their son?

My Review

Madeline slept for over a thousand years and then her queen smashed the glass that enclosed her and her infant son and woke her. Madeline didn't remember much of her life before but she remembered her infant son. Before she could get her son to wake up as well, he was kidnapped. So she goes to ask for help to the only person she knows will help her, the baby's father.

Lev didn't sleep while his wife and son were cursed to sleep for over a thousand years. Instead he became a formidable, lethal white wolf and never stopped searching for them. He knew who caused the curse that put his family to sleep and he would get his revenge one day, of that he had no doubt.

While this was a good story it was also long and drawn out. They are on the run for most of the story, running from witches, wolves and other bad guys while they try to make it to the place where their son is and rescue him.

Lev remembers her and misses her. He's never stopped looking for her while she and their son slept and throughout the story she slowly starts to get her memory back. I really liked her character. She's not a scared, weak heroine. She wields a ruby sword and can fight like the warrior she's always been.

At first she's afraid of the white wolf because of her memory loss and the lies that are told to her but as Lev and Madeline get closer and get to know one another and she remembers their past, her fear disappears.

There are a coupe of good twists in this book and the ending was really good. I liked these two as well as the secondary characters.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Review: Selenium Night by Kharma Kelley

Book Description

ShadowShifters - Shapeshifting wolf creatures that love as fiercely as they fight.

Aidan Bloodlocke never dreamed he was a wolf Shifter, much less an Alpha. When a pack takes him in, his entire world changes, and loyalties are developed. Then disaster strikes, and he's on a ruthless mission for justice.
When veterinarian Maddie Ardelle moved to Bridgepoint, Maine, to start a normal, peaceful life on her own, she didn't expect to get herself caught in the crossfire of two factions of violent, feuding werewolves. And definitely not entangled with a sexy biker shifter that made her weak in the knees. Against their will, Maddie and Aidan's worlds collide, and with an attraction so enthralling, both are helpless to resist.

As Aidan struggles to fight for both love and duty, he uncovers a betrayal so heinous, it puts the lives of his entire pack and the brave woman he desires at unthinkable risk. The stakes are high, and both must decide if Maddie ultimately can live in his violent world of teeth and claw in this action-packed paranormal romance series!

My Review

There are two kinds of shifters in this book, the Aristans and the Thesians. They were both created by a moon goddess who were sisters. Arista created the Aristans and they were supposed to worship both sisters but they really only cared about the goddess who created them. Arista's sister was mad about that so she created the Thesians to kill her sisters Aristans.

Aidan Bloodlocke was adopted by a Aristan family, though his 'brother' never accepted him and things got worst when Aidan beat his adopted brother, Kiernan and became alpha of his pack. Kiernan betrayed the pack with the help of a pack member as well as a few Thesians and the results were awful.

Kiernan runs from the pack but Aidan tracks him, finds him and brings in help to try and deal with him. But while Aidan is searching for Kiernan he runs into Maddie who is in trouble and even though she's a human he can't just leave her to get hurt. For some strange reason that he can't understand, he's drawn to the human and can't stop thinking about her but Aristan's have a strict rule about keeping away from humans so he knows that his attraction can never go anywhere.

Maddie is the town veterinarian and when we first meet her she's dealing with a total jerk who got bit by his girlfriend's dog and the dog got hurt presumably by the boyfriend, Evan. I really wanted Evan to get hit by a truck, he was a complete jerk and bully. The fact that the girlfriend put up with this guys behavior, just pissed me off.

Then Aidan finds out that Kiernan is gathering Thesians to make his own pack and Aidan knows that when he gets a big enough pack he will be coming after him for revenge. Aidan has no choice but to ask others that he never thought he would be asking, for help. But while all this family and pack drama is going on, there's also a really hot romance between Maddie and Aidan that I really liked. These two are so great together and I liked watching Aidan change his mind about humans and open his heart to Maddie.

There was so much action towards the end of this book and so much backstory and world building in the beginning of this book that it really kept my attention front beginning to end.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Review: Unleashed by Caitlin Crews

Book Description

Notorious seducer Thor Ragnarsson runs the scandalous Hotel Viking in Reykjavik, where tourists go to fulfill their wildest fantasies. When straitlaced American professor Margot Cavendish gets snowed in while studying Icelandic sex culture, Thor challenges her inhibitions with some very hands-on research—soon she’s exploring every inch of his delicious body. It’s only one night of passion, but when the snowstorm clears they’re left aching for more…

My Review

I knew I had to read this as soon as I saw the heroes name was thor and he ran Hotel Viking.

Margot wanted to interview Thor but all of her calls to speak to him had been denied so she decides to just show up and see if he'll talk to her. She didn't expect to find herself snowed in at the hotel though. While all she wants to do at first is talk, interview him about his thoughts on sex, he has other plans. He wants to show her in person why he owns a sex hotel as she calls it. At first she says no, but he's persistent and soon she's following him back to a room.

Since they're at a sex hotel, I thought that it would be more exciting than it was. The sex between these two is mundane at best. It was nice for both of them but I wouldn't call it earth shattering. I was really thinking these two would blow the top off the building and leave me breathless but is was more luke warm if you ask me. 99% of the book is the one night they shared in his room and all the conversing back and forth they did.

I really like the idea of a pleasure hotel where people go to live out their fantasies. This place sounds like a lot of fun. These two not so much. The book was entertaining to read if you're looking for two strangers having sex for the first time and a lot of conversation. But if you're looking for a deep dark fantasy with lots of kink, look elsewhere because it's not here.

I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.
