Apartment Life #232

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 22 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 22 years here in a weekly blog post.

This week as a pretty quiet week. But I did see this guy who I am assuming is homeless, walking down the street. He was stumbling around down the street like he was either high or drunk and when he came to the cement slab there, he sat down and then slowly leaned over and went to sleep. About an hour later he got up and met up with a group of homeless people down the street.

Well, I signed a 12 month lease for my apartment so it looks like I'll be able to report any of the craziness that goes on around here.

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Review: Elemis Aha Glow Cleansing Butter

A while ago I bought a sample size of Elemis Superfood Aha Glow Cleansing Butter. It came with 2 samples, rose facial oil and Superfood Facial Wash.

I just wanted to say how good this all smells. The rose oil smells just like roses and the cleansing butter and face wash has its own scents but they are so nice. The face wash and cleansing butter leave my skin feeling so soft and it didn't break me out which was really nice.

I didn't realize how much I like the scent of rose until now but I'm definitely going to have to look out for more rose scented bath and body products. The face oil absorbs really quickly and doesn't interfere with the other products or makeup that I use. I've tried other Elemis products before and I've liked everything that I've tried so far.

Have you used any Elemis products?

Review: Walmart Beauty Box- November

This review should have been posted last month so it's coming to you a little late but I had a lot going on last month.

The Walmart Beauty box is a subscription box that comes out 4 times a year. You sign up for it and it comes automatically every 3 months. These boxes are free and you just pay $5 + tax for shipping, mine came to $5.42.

What was in the box?

Gold Bond lotion.
Batiste dry shampoo.
BLISS Rose Gold Moisture Cream.
NYX Professional Makeup Butter Gloss.
Earth to Skin Facial Cleanser.

I'm actually out of all the sample bottles of dry shampoo that I received over the past couple of years so I was happy to get another one. This one smells good and works good but does leave a white powder i your hair. I just have to brush it through really well to get rid of the powder.

I love the NYX brand of Makeup so I was happy to get something that I haven't tried before. It's a really good lip gloss.

I like the cleanser, it smells good and worked well on my skin and so did the moisturizer. I also like the Gold Bond lotion. I've actually tried this one before and already liked it.

So for the price, I think this was a really good box of beauty items.

Have you signed up for this box?

Happy Raturday!

"Today I'm going to teach you to bake cookies. First step, don't taste the grapefruit, it's much too sour."

"Second step, is start gathering your ingredients. If you make a mess, mom will clean it up."

"Make sure to measure everything. We don't want them to come out like last time."

"Be sure to take many snack breaks."

"It's ok to taste test the cookies before baking them."

"Arrange the cookies on a baking sheet. If you put paw prints on the cookies, all the better. The guests will love that. "

"Be sure to give mom the cute face when begging for cookies after they are done baking. It works every time."

Apartment Life #231

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 22 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 22 years here in a weekly blog post.

On Thursday night my daughter and I heard the police helicopter over our apartment complex and as we were headed outside to see what was going on, we heard sirens pulling up on our street. As we got outside, we saw 6 police cars pulling up on our street. The video shows the police walking around across the street looking for someone.

There were a lot of police cars on my street that night. Some of the police got out and were running around across the street but I didn't see them arrest anyone. I police helicopter left but the police stayed for about an hour before they left.

The police cars were even at the end of my street and when I walked down that way with the dog they seemed to be looking around the apartment complex across the street for someone. I don't know if they ever found the person they were looking for.

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Review: Built Bars- Protein Bars

I signed up for and received a free box of 6 Built Bars- Protein Bars. I don't usually like protein bars but I hadn't tried these and the reviews were really good for them so I thought, why not. I received 6 different flavors, Mint Brownie, Cookies and Cream, Peanut Butter, Coconut Almond, Cherry, and Salted Caramel.

I can't believe that I'm going to say this but they were good, really good. They tasted more like candy bars than protein bars. I never would have known these bars were protein bars if I hadn't read it on their website. They had an almost chewy, marshmallow texture to them but they tasted so good. The coconut and almond bar reminded me so much of an Almond Joy candy bar. The Whatever flavor I tried, the flavor was really prominent, the Mint Brownie bar tasted very much like a mint chocolate candy bar.

If you already eat protein bars and don't like the taste or texture of most of the bars that are out there, you should really give these a try because they are the best protein bars I've ever tried and I don't eat them often but if I was, these are the ones that I would go back for. You can find them on their website

Disclosure: I was sent a free box of Built Bars but I was under no obligation to review. I received no money for my review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Freebie Friday!

Welcome to another weekly Freebie Friday post, where I tell you what free samples and full sized products I received in the mail and how you can get them too. Someone asked me why I do a "Freebie Friday" each week, so I'll tell you.

A while back I listed all the free samples and wins that I had received that previous year and so many people didn't believe that I could have gotten so many free things. So I decided to prove it by taking a picture every week and sharing the sites that I found the links to the freebies at. So now you too can get great free samples coming to your mailbox each week.

You can find links to great samples at Hey It's Free and Freebie Shark.

What I got:

I received a free box of Built Bars.

3 Samples of Sulwhasoo face creams.

$10 Amazon giftcard from Crowdtap.

The Built Bars are so good. I cannot even believe I am saying this but they taste like candy bars instead of protein bars. I will be reviewing them soon.

The face creams are nice. They made my skin soft and didn't break me out.

Review: Daily Goodie Box- December

The Daily Goodie Box has been around since about July of 2016. I signed up for an account right after I heard about them. They are 100% free, you don't even have to pay for shipping. And for a free box it's a nice sampler box of products.

What was in the box?

Hydralyte - Immune System Boost with Elderberry-  If you're dehydrated at all then this could help you. I liked the berry taste and the fact that it has some added vitamins in it.

GoodLight - Birthday Candles-  These birthday candles are vegan and paraffin free. If that's something you're looking for then these are the candles for you. I plan on using them on my grandson's birthday cake next month.

Bella Sun Luci - Sriracha Tomato Jerky-  Well, I never thought such a thing existed but it does. Is that a good thing? No. I tried them. My daughter tried them and so did my son in law and we all thought the same thing...yuck! Just because you can make something doesn't mean you should.

Toast! - Before You Drink Gummies- So these gummies stick so bad. The scent is very off-putting to say the least. But if you can get past the scent, they don't taste bad at all. I don't drink so I just tried one and let my daughter try them when she had a couple of drinks. She said she didn't feel any different the next day. They are supposed to make you feel ok the next day.

Eco Lips - Hemp Lip Balm-  The scent is a nice vanilla scent, and it's a good lip balm. It works pretty well for chapped lips.

Real Chemistry - Environmental Rescue Daily Serum-  This serum should be worn under moisturizer and makeup. Used daily it's supposed to help with fine lines, wrinkles and make your skin feel better. The serum is fine to wear under makeup and moisturizer. It didn't interfere with the other products I was wearing and it absorbed quickly into my skin.

Auromere - Ayurvedic Shampoo Bar-  This bar can be used as shampoo, hand soap and body wash. I thought it smelled good and worked well for washing my hair. But it leaves behind a sticky kind of feeling in your hair that I didn't like. I had to use a lot of conditioner to get my hair feeling soft again. But it works well as a body wash bar.

NOCCO - Carbonated Beverage with BCAAs-  It tastes like strawberry soda. Everyone in my household tried a little of it and we all liked it. It's sugar free, low calorie and has caffeine.

All they ask you to do is try the products and leave reviews for the products you got in order to be eligible for more Free Goodie Boxes. As you guys already know, I'm a fan of all these types of boxes. I love all the different subscription boxes and it's really nice to be able to try new to me products for free. This is a great box to try for.

Oh and one more thing, if you visit their FB Page, they give away Goodie Boxes to people who interact with their posts. So if you've tried before and weren't able to get a Goodie Box, there's even more ways to get one now.

Have you signed up? Have you received one of these boxes?

I'm a fan of subscription boxes and love trying new products for free so this was a huge hit with me. New products+free box = Fabulous!

Disclosure: I was given and free box in exchange for a review but all opinions are my own.

Review: Boone by Diana Palmer

Book Description

Diana Palmer delivers a classic tale of cowboy love with Long, Tall Texans: Boone (originally published Heart of Stone in 2008)

Rancher Boone Sinclair is the ultimate Long, Tall Texan—reticent, noble and blessed with a Texas-size stubbornness. He’s always been beguiled by the lovely Keely Welsh, but he’s kept his distance to protect her innocence. Yet Keely’s no longer a girl who needs his protection. In fact, she’s a woman out to win his heart…

My Review

Keely was totally in love with Boone but since she was only 19 years old, he saw her as too young for him even though he was attracted to her. Keely had a hard life, first her parents got divorced and she lived with her father for a couple of years where she got hurt, both mentally and physically when she was a child. Her mother is a hateful drunk and doesn't like Keely all that much and lets her know it every chance she gets. Keely keeps to herself for the most part aside from her friends Winnie and Clark who are Boone's siblings. She has a few secrets that she's been keeping to herself.

Boone has seen war and when he came back he wasn't the same happy guy that left. He's broody, curt and downright intimidating. But he has secrets too.

When Keely's father and scumbag friend start calling Keely's mother for money, Keely can see some changes in her mother. Her mother is scared and even stops drinking so much and starts getting along with Keely better. But Keely's father isn't stopping and wants his ex to put their house up for sale and give him the money.

Keely tells the law in town what is going on with her father and they start looking for him. Her father has something he's holding over her mother and when she finds out what it is, it changes the way she see's her parents. When Boone finds out that Keely is in danger, it changes something in him and he starts looking out for her more even while she's faking a relationship with his brother. But nothing seems to get by Boone and he see's right through the ruse. Poor Clark is seeing a woman who just wants him for his money and Boone is going out with a woman that everyone can see is dating him for the same reason.

While law enforcement is trying to catch her her father and his cohort, Boone has some secrets he's keeping behind the scenes as well and it messes up any kind of relationship he could have with Keely. The woman he's seeing makes sure that Boone sees Keely in the worst light possible and he ends up believing what she shows him and takes it out on Keely. Of course it's all lies, not true at all but Boone is a hot head and doesn't see reason which causes Keely to get hurt and then Bone feels awful about it.

Keely is put in real danger from her father and the guys he's hanging around but Boone makes sure she's safe. I like that this ends well and there's a happy ending but I really disliked Boone for a while until the truth came to light as to what he was doing and why. I've liked Diana Palmer's books for a long time and this one was just as good as the others that I've read.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #230

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 22 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 22 years here in a weekly blog post.

This week there was another idiot setting fires around my apartment complex. On Monday night my daughter and I saw a homeless guy burning books in the community bbq in the pool courtyard. He's not the same guy that was arrested last week with the burning shopping cart. Totally different guy. We figured he was trying to stay warm since the low was 34F this week. So we didn't think much of it until the next day. Tuesday morning I saw a bunch of burned clothes and books in the rocks next to my apartment building. I didn't get a picture of it until too late. The porter had come by and picked up most of the burned trash but I did get a picture of the burnt ashes that were left over in the rocks. All that black you see in the rocks is the burnt remains. The man was turned in that day by a neighbor and he was arrested but he got out the next day.

The day after that guy got out out jail. He was only in jail for one night. I don't know if it's because they didn't catch him red handed or what but the next morning when I was walking Falcor, I spotted more burnt cardboard down the street. I do not like knowing that there's a couple of fire bugs in the neighborhood setting fire to books, clothing and cardboard.

Falcor just wanted to scuff his feet on the cardboard but I don't like that people are setting fires in the neighborhood. I've kept my eye open at night when I take Falcor for a walk. If I see any fires I'm calling 911. This is ridiculous.

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Review: Iron Master by Jennifer Ashley

Book Description

Stuart Reid is an Iron Master—a Dark Fae with a rare ability to make iron do his bidding. Exiled by the High Fae who fear him, he now lives in a simple house in Shiftertown outside Las Vegas, watching over Peigi, a bear Shifter woman, and the cubs she cares for.

Peigi, rescued from an evil Shifter and welcomed into the Vegas Shiftertown, knows Reid and the cubs have helped her survive and heal.

She also knows Reid is alone and lonely, a strong man coping with his exile. The bond she feels pulling her to him scares the crud out of her—she’s been down this road before.

When Reid’s people send him a desperate call for help, Peigi senses danger to him—too much of it. She finds she’ll do anything, even sacrifice herself and her happiness, to keep him safe.

My Review

Peigi and Stuart have been slowly getting closer throughout this series. She is very cautious because of her past and Stuart is too. But these two really like each other so it was really nice to see these two finally giving into their feelings.

Stuart starts hearing from his people that they need his help even though he's been exiled and never thought he could go back home. Peigi has a feeling that he's in danger and asks the other shifters to help out and even though they don't actually trust Stuart because he's dark Fae, they do decide to help where they can.

The shifters are still in shifter towns and a lot of humans still don't like them. The one things about this series that I've always hated was how badly the shifters are treated by the humans. Shifters have to wear collars that shock them when they get angry and have to live in shifter towns. They don't have a lot of freedom or rights.

Stuart has been helpful to the shifters so they allow him to live in one of the shifter towns. He lives in a house with Peigi and her adopted cubs. He looks out for her and the cubs. When Stuart is called home to Faerie because he can manipulate iron and the dark Fae need him to help them before the light Fae kill them all I knew things were going to be complicated. There are a couple of twists that were interesting but I thought the story wrapped up nicely.

I really liked reading Peigi and Stuart's book. I've been waiting for them to finally see that they were meant for each other. I would definitely read this series in order to get a better understanding of what is going on from one book to another.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Review: The Protector by Abigail Owen

Book Description

The cousin of the High King, Lyndi Chandali has lived with the constant threat of being pawned off as a political prize. A rare, female-born dragon like Lyndi can’t truly mate—not in the way it counts. Which is why she's kept her distance from a certain sinfully delicious Beta. Instead, she's built a life for herself giving orphaned dragons in the Americas a home.

As Beta of his team of enforcers, Levi Rowtag is a fighter first, last, and always. His job is to protect—his team, the shifters in his territory, and the stubborn woman hell-bent on fighting with him at every turn. He knows from the moment they first meet what she’ll never accept—they are destined to be mated.

But with the kings at war, the enemy is now coming for Lyndi. Worse, he’s coming for her orphans, too. He’ll have no choice but to defy his king and go rogue if he has any hope of protecting them all...and finally claiming his mate.

My Review

Lyndi is a female dragon shifter and females are sterile so her mating would usually be political because she is a cousin of the High King. But the High King is a nice guy and hasn't made her mate anyone. As soon as Lyndi meets Levi though, she feels something for him right away but she misinterprets how he acts around her at first and pushes him away every chance she gets for 200 years.

Levi meets Lyndi when she and her brother comes to help his clan. He knows pretty much right away that she is his mate but because of the way he acts towards her, she thinks he doesn't like her when he's really just trying to hold his dragon in check.

Neither one has any idea that the other feels the same way about them and Lyndi being sterile and not being able to mate him the way a human female would makes her believe that she's not good enough for him anyway. It isn't until he gets called back to his clan and a male dragon shifter from another clan comes to claim Lyndi, that they both let their feelings show. At that point there was no way that they were letting each other go, but that's also when all sorts of things get in their way and it looks like there will be a war or at the very least a lot of trouble with other clans and maybe even Levi's gold clan leader.

I really liked the orphan dragon shifters that Lyndi has taken in and cares for and how much they care about her. There were a few surprises and a lot of great action scenes. So much has happened in this series and even more happens in this book. I cannot wait for Rune's book and it looks like his will be the next book in this series and I'm so looking forward to it. I always enjoy the books in this series and that's what keeps me coming back. All I can say is if you haven't started reading this and you like PNR, you really need to pick up the first book and start reading it.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Review: Inferno by Donna grant

Book Description

Inferno is the explosive, most anticipated, final book in Donna Grant's Dark Kings series featuring Con, the King of the Dragon Kings!

I knew what I wanted. And nothing was going to stop me.

King of Dragon Kings. Driven, ruthless, shrewd. The weight of survival for Constantine and his brethren has pushed him to set aside his own yearnings—for now. He’s the most powerful of all Dragon Kings, and Con will stop at nothing to destroy anyone who dares to threaten his existence.

For years, Con has hidden his pain—his desperation—for there is one smoldering beauty that he craves above all else, even if he feels he doesn’t deserve her. However, his enemies are at every corner. There is no one left to trust. But none of that matters anymore: There is only one thing that Con wants. With this one woman by his side, he can fight for the freedom of his fellow men-in-arms. All Con has to do is get her to surrender her heart…and be his for all time.

My Review

Constantine had found Rhi, the woman that he loved, his mate. But because his friends, the other dragons kings hadn't found their mates, Con left Rhi to focus more of his attention on the war that came and to make sure his friends found their mates. But its now been many, many years and he's tired of watching the other dragon kings get their mates and be happy. It's now his time to make his mate realize that they belong together and try to forgive him for all the years they lost because he walked away.

Rhi is now the Queen of the light fae but an old enemy (Usaeil) comes back when everyone thought she was dead, claiming to be the true queen of all the fae. So there's a fight between Usaeil and Rhi because Usaeil needs more magic than she has in order to win the fight which puts Rhi in a lot of danger.

I've been reading this series since the first book and I have watched Con and Rhi as their hearts broke over and over again. I knew Rhi was strong but even she couldn't hold out when Con turned up the charm once he set his sites on getting her back.

There's a mysterious book, lots of secrets revealed and a couple of twists that I loved. This is the last book in the series but I've heard that there will be a spin off series and a lot of the characters from this series will appear there as well so it's not really over. This was a great way to end the series though, I really enjoyed this book.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Apartment Life #229

This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 22 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 22 years here in a weekly blog post.

This is the first video that I've uploaded from my computer rather than Youtube so I hope it works. This week my daughter and a neighbor were sitting outside at 9pm and watched as a man walked down the walking path next to our apartment complex pushing a shopping cart. Inside the cart were cardboard boxes he had set on fire and he just kept walking down the street and in and around another apartment complex as pieces of the boxes were dropping out of the bottom of the cart and setting all the grass, weeds, and trash on fire wherever he walked. So my daughter and the neighbor called 911 because they were afraid the fires would get to the apartment buildings. The video is of the police and fire truck getting here.

My daughter snapped a picture of the shopping cart when it was on fire. The man that was pushing it was standing behind it but you probably can't see him. Other people started coming out of their apartments and started filming him too.

The police got here really fast and took voluntary statements from my neighbor that my daughter was talking to and from a guy across the street that saw it also.

The fire truck got here fast and had to put out several small fires along the pathway where trash, grass, and dried up weeds had caught fire when this guy pushed the shopping cart over that area. The man was arrested at least and the police told my daughter they were charging him with arson so he probably wouldn't be getting out anytime soon.

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Review: Wyoming Brave by Diana Palmer

Book Description

The Wyoming men are back! In their quest for true love on the range, are these ranchers bold enough to open their hearts to the women under their protection?

Ren Colter may own an enormous ranch in Wyoming, but he scorns his wealth. He's closed himself off since his fiancée left him months ago, so he's shocked when he allows Meredith Grayling to stay with him. He tells himself it's only to protect the blonde beauty from a stalker, but Ren's alpha instincts soon kick in.

The last thing Merrie wants is a devastatingly handsome man like Ren lurking around her. He's too experienced, too appealing for her already shot nerves. What she needs is just to get away from it all: the man haunting her waking dreams and the one hunting her like an animal. But no woman escapes this Colter cowboy!

My Review

Merrie's friend Randall brought her to stay and his and his brother's ranch. Randall's brother, Ren is also there and he really doesn't like Merrie being there because he hates women. Ren is bitter after he is cheated on by his ex fiance who just wanted him for his money so now he sees all women in the same light.

Merrie has had a really hard life because her father used to beat she and her sister. It isn't until Merrie freaks out when Ren takes his belt off to adjust it that Ren finally sees past his hate and realizes that Merrie isn't an awful person. The fact that Merrie is able to get close to a horse that was beaten and had hurt any of the cowboys that came close to it is just another reason Ren is seeing her differently.

Ren didn't know it at first but Merrie was hiding from a dangerous man who was out to kill her and it isn't until she uses her credit card to buy something that someone is able to track her down. But just as Ren and Merrie are getting closer, a misunderstanding comes between them and she leaves his ranch to go back home with her sister. Ren knows he made a mistake but doesn't think that there's anything he can do about it until Merrie is hurt and he decides to come see her and her family.

Ren realizes how much he cares for her and can only hope that she'll be ok and maybe forgive him for being so dumb. Merrie forms an unlikely friendship with someone that ultimately is the reason the threat to her goes away.

I like how this one ended and if you've been reading my reviews, you already know that I love Diana Palmer.

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
