The Red Star World Wear Scam

I recently saw a gift card in my Outside magazine, for $500 worth of free merchandise from Redstarworldwear.com

I looked over their site and soon realized that this merchandise which is mostly sunglasses and watches was not going to be free with this gift card. There is a 'service' [shipping and handling fee] of 9% per item. That's right 9% per item! So if I bought $500 worth of sunglasses from the site I would be paying about $50 just for shipping and handling. Don't waste your money on sunglasses that you could buy for $10 on the street or someplace else and get ripped off by shipping and handling fee's that cost you more than the glasses are actually worth.

If someone wants to offer you a free product, the shipping and handling will be free to. Or at the very least the 'gift card' they are supposedly giving you will also pay for the shipping and handling....which this one does NOT!

Bottom line...It's not free. Save your money and go to the drug store and buy a pair of sun glasses you can try on beforehand and make sure you like them. Don't get scammed by sites that are going to over charge you on the shipping and handling fee's for things that wouldn't never cost as much as they are charging.

  3. It really is a scam. I went to the contact page and it listed an email address. Honestly, if the company cannot list an actual address where they do business then I always consider it a scam.

  5. It is a scam, any place that makes you pay that much for shipping and handling for a pair of sun glasses is definitely ripping you off.

It is a scam, who in hell charges 9% for shipping cost? That's insane. I can see if they only charge 2 or 3 % but 9% wow. Get the hell outta here, I just got the magazine today & it did come with the $500 dollar gift card but then I decided to check online what ppl thought about this also & most thought the same thing I thought 100% scam

  7. I got the same card and if you read it, it says it right there on the card moron! So how can it be a scam if it tells you that from the begining?

  8. I bought sunglasses from this site. You are a moron. What makes you think these are $10 drugstore sunglasses? These are high quality sunglasses. Feel free to go look at YouTube as there are several videos that show these sunglasses are the real deal and not Wal mart brand

  9. It's not a scam. It's just a way to get paid from people that are too lazy to READ THE F*****G INSTRUCTIONS! Those are the mindless fools posting hate reviews because they got caught paying an insane amount of shipping fees and want to rant about it. RedStar seems like a Panama Jack Brand anyway...only on the internet.

DO NOT ORDER SUNGLASSES FROM RED STAR WORLD WEAR IT IS A SCAM!!!!

  11. You guys all seriously need to relax. Im a small business owner in Mukilteo, Washington, and I received the same thing. As a business owner, I can say that I would never send out completely FREE gift cards, I would never do it charging anything LESS than 9%. If all of us got these, that means they are willing to give out thousands and thousands of dollars, and they say in print that its not a scam. Even if this covers the cost of the product, try to help a new business out, theres nothing wrong with this picture. 9% of $500 is $45, be realistic people, why the hell do you think you are worthy of receiving 500 dollars worth of stuff for absolutely free?

    ReplyDelete
  12. For who says he is a small business owner to say he would never send out completely free gift cards, well too bad for you. You are missing out of getting people to come to your site to get their completely free item and maybe even get them to buy something else.

I get flyers with completely free gift cards all the time. Free panties, free bras, free t-shirts, free cups, mugs, hats, pens, food, ect...all free no tax, no shipping, no 9% BS.

If you say it's free, it better be free or it's a lie. Free plus shipping and handling my friend..is not free...it's called a scam.

    ReplyDelete
  13. It's not a lie if they tell you on the actual card what you have to pay moron. besides. If I buy 5 pairs of "100" dollar sunglasses, i pay 45 bucks. where are you going to get 5 pairs of sunglasses for 45 bucks anywhere else?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Anonymous10:41 AM

Yeah I got one of these in a skiing magazine, thought it was too good to be true at a 9% "service fee" isnt worth it.

  15. Its only a scam if the glasses never show up! Its not even snall print. They clearly state the fees. Its just like all the idiots that bought houses on sub prime loans and didnt read what they signed and said poor me. I dont feel sorry for people that can read but dont take the time to read.

Props to Red Star for creative marketing to sell $10.00 sun glasses. If one pair were $500.00 then they could be over priced but what pair of sun glasses isnt over priced. What about those name brand sun glasses that we buy for $400.00 that take $10.00 to make? Thats more of a scam then paying 9% delivery for something that has a functional purpose of blocking brighr light!

  16. its not a scam i have ordered several glasses from this site. honestly these glasses are really good glasses and the lenses are awesome. The glasses are from china which could be why they are cheap. In fact the girl from American guns has a pair also of these glasses. Anyways 9% includes shipping and lifetime warrenty of the glasses. so for 20 bucks for these glasses are awesome and def worth it,

    ReplyDelete
  17. If it was oakley sending out these gift cards with the same 9% s&h charges you would all be tripping over yourselves to get the gift card and paying the 9% with a huge grin on your face

  18. I read all of these comments and started to laugh out loud. All comments are valid, some more ridiculous than others, but at the end of the day I too feel that 9% of five hundred for 4 or 5 funky looking pair of glasses is okay with me. I went to Glasses Hut and saw some guy drop $350 for a pair of Maui Jim's and I looked at him like, DUDE REALLY! I could have bought my groceries and my kids some clothes for school and still went home with $50 or more in my pocket. Is it a scam? Could very well be, but I haven't seen Maxim or Red Star being sued by anybody over paying 9% for some cool shit that they could use in there everyday life and look damn good doing it. Get a life people, spend your money how you see fit. I'm ordering my stuff as we speak. Peace!

    ReplyDelete
  19. you people are idiots. yes, they charge a 9% service charge - but that's it. they are basically giving you a 91% discount. it may be a scam, but not by that logic.

    ReplyDelete
  20. it is kinda scam sayinfg free giftcard to trick dumb sheeple, then you find out theres shipping fees and you think they wont make any money that way? i could go tto a chinese wholesale site and buy 5 hundred pairs of sunglasses for 100 dollars, its merely a gimic to get you to buy from them aand its because if they were honest and said hey really cheap knock off sunglasses that by the way probably contain lead and other toxic chemicals that are probably waste from industry and made in to glasses for americans ha ha ha cus nobody would buy it to begin with and i could tell this as soon as i heard the idea i mean come on sheeple baaah

    ReplyDelete
  21. it pays to read the fine print but if you cant find any then you are sucked into going to theyre website, and its a pretty good hook if they only had american products or if us sheeple would only shop for them wed all be fine unless were morons

  22. Well, we got the gift card from Maxim, ordered a watch, and got it within about a week and a half. The watch only cost us 9.90 shipping and I have to say it was of decent quality. The deal is this: you have to agree to receive some of their "new test products" (watches or sunglasses) every couple of months or so, provide them with a review of the product. You have the option of returning it if you don't like it, but you will be charged shipping again- and good luck getting that back. I checked my bank statement and w the 19.90 on there about 2 wks ago...haven't received a thing. Then tried to sign onto my account and the website doesn't seem to recognize me anymore. Hmm, I would say this IS a scam at this point, and would be surprised if anything comes in the mail again. Beware.

  23. In business, there are costs to everything -- It is simply marketing in which they are trying to get you to spend $500 of retail to buy sunglasses, and still not take a loss on their product. Some people will think that they should have everything free, but those are the same people that believe Obama should pay their mortgage... IF you understand business, you'll understand that there is a cost to business and nothing in life is free... The first lesson learned in business school, "There's no such thing as a free lunch".

  24. not too many scams give you a watch every 3-4 glasses purchased tho where they are already giving you a 91% charge off to THEIR organization or shareholders .

had this in 7th grade if memory serves. folks buy these all the time and re-sell @ flee markets for a sizeable profit .

I bought glasses from here back in June and I love them! Everyone is complainging about the price, first off they're not cheap Walmart sunglasses, and if they were, big shit, you're still paying only $10 for polarized sunglasses! Plus they give you a free watch, granted it's no rolex, but $50 for 5/6 pairs of shades and a watch? Scam or not I'm happy, more sunglasses for me.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Idiots, it's a scam. They get you to pay $45 dollars for a product they probably bought for less than $10, (and somehow make you think you you got something worth $500 for free) The sunglasses are only "worth" $100 if they can sell them for that. And that can't; thus they use this scam

  28. $45 for $500 worth of stuff doesnt sound like a scam but a good way to get your startup clothing company off the ground. If its good enough for Tranworld to put in their mag then i stand behind Red Star. Their shades looked sick from what i saw. Your all just cheap ass haters!

    ReplyDelete
  29. what a bunch of shysting jews, they mark up garbage many times what it is worth and you think your getting a good deal cuz of the 500$ worth of credit. in the end after the addition of a 9% service fee and product delivery/handling expenses they are making a profit on a pair of sunglasses that cost them under 5$ to produce. these people are like the shady used car salesman that try to low ball you. to anybody considering to buy from this company a few words of advice. dont be so naive, nobody just passes out 500$ worth of credit, the people in this world arent that nice. if its too good to be true, then it probably is.

  30. This company is a joke. I decided to pick up a pair of sunglasses just to check out their quality...You can find these at your local 7-11, mall kiosk, or swap meet. These were made in China, so I'm sure most of you know what you're going to get. You can get a refund, but if they're free you're S**T OUT OF LUCK on the shipping and handling charges (they use first class mail, but take over a week to ship the item to you).

    ReplyDelete
  31. Def not a scam. This company was on West Coast Customs tv show. They are the new Oakly. Pay the 9% tax. It covers their cost to give YOU free glasses. I got the same card out of the same magazine. And I looked it over before placing an order. It sais right on the site there is a 9% service fee PER pair. I received my 5 pairs of glasses in a week or so. Then got the watch I paid $0.01 for, no shipping a week after I got the glasses. As a business owner, I agree with the charge. Since its a promational campaign, I just got 2 more glasses for free, and another $500 gift card. 6 more pair are on the way, plus another watch. Anf I will get two pair every two months. They send you the new run pair. Sure I paid a good fee for delivery. You will pay for delivery when you order other stuff off the net? And this is a scam 'cause they wont pay your shipping? Give an inch, take a mile! I will spread the word if this company till the end. Red Star Rocks!

I just received the 7 pairs of sunglasses and 2 watches I ordered with my gift card. The sunglasses seem decent and the watches are very nice. I hope they last a while. Time will tell. But in my opinion, 7 pairs sunglasses and a very attractive watches are well worth the 9 percent fee.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 1 small print on the gift card says 9% fee but does not say(on the card) off the original price!
2 why is it on sale? or more like.."
While the 9% Service Fee (minimum
$9.90) will be based on this model's
Proposed* price, only the gift card price will be deducted from your RedStar Gift Card or promo code credit"

  34. No legitimate brand in it for the long run would use a deceptive ploy like this. That said, like it or not, they got everyone of you talking about their Brand...they're marketing team did their job. If you believe you got a deal, good for you. As for me, I'll continue to put on my Maui Jim's.

  35. I have the card in my hand right now. The word FREE never even appears on the card!!!!!!! It states that it is a gift card for $500. If you READ the back, it never says FREE. Seriously people read the stupid card!! Pay attention and quit complaining because you didn't get something FREE. The word FREE does not appear on the card ANYWHERE. Unbelievable how you're foolish enough to not read it and then be pissed because it was not what you expected. You should be embarrassed!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Guys it is the old bait and switch. I'll give you $500 then charge you $50 to ship it and the product is worth about $25 bucks. They only sell on the internet because if you saw the merchandise in person you would not pay what they are asking for it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thanks for the post. I just found a redstar $500 'gift card' tucked in a magazine on a plane. My first thought was how careless that somebody left such a high dollar gift card behind! Then i thought about it a bit. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Dunno how old this post is....not very experienced with this site. I ran a race today and got the same gift card we are all talking about. Came here to see what everyone thought bout it. Turns out it is just a bitch fest for you all to call each other idiots and morons. I hope you are all still in high school, seeing as you all speak to one another in the same fashion. I'm 20 fuckin years old....hey adults: GROW THE FUCK UP. Everyone has different opinions. That doesn't make them a moron or an idiot. Misguided, maybe. But realize that for every person you think is an idiot, they probably think the same about you. Good luck trying to convince the world you are the smartest person EVER.

  39. Its not a "scam". It clearly says that you will have to pay a 9% service fee. So you know in advance what the terms are. A "scam" would be if that was disclosed only after you placed your order, or if there are other undisclosed conditions to the offer. You are free to take or leave the 9% fee - that is your choice.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Nowhere on the card does it say you get 'Free Stuff'. It simply says you can spend up to $500 dollars in merchandise before you start spending your own money. In return for that GIFT, they will charge 9% Service Fee. If you only spend $100, you only pay $9.00

Look at the sales tax you pay on anything else you purchase in a regular store. Most states it is 7.0 to 8.5%. Then consider that shipping is involved. Where is 9% so ridiculous given that the 'money' spent on the merchandise is not out of your own pocket?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yes, I am aware that the gift cards no longer say, "Free Merchandise", but when I wrote this article the gift cards did say "Free Merchandise" like I wrote they did. but because of articles like mine, they changed the wording on most of the gift cards.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anonymous12:25 PM

People, You are all missing the point... THIS IS A SCAM because the card is telling people that they are getting a $500 gift card so they can spread the word about the company. It reality the they are selling you a $5 pair of sunglasses for $9 bucks and lying about how much it's worth.

This is like having a dollar store giving out a $100 gift card and then marking everything up to $10 and then charging you $1 for every item you purchase. Its dishonest to the consumer and therefor a scam!

    ReplyDelete
  43. i have gone through this company 3 times now and each time i've gotten about 5-6 pairs of sunglasses for roughly 75 dollars total. this is not a scam and anybody who says it is has either not ordered anything from them or only ordered the cheapest ones they had. there is no way these sunglasses are as cheap as dollar store or gas station sunglasses. i have gotten a few cheaper ones from them and agree that they arent the best quality but if you look you can find amazing quality sunglasses. i have several pairs that are fog proof and scratch resistant and easily worth at least 75$ a piece. yes you have to pay "shipping" which is crappy because its a free gift card but if you pick they right pairs its still a pretty amazing deal. i know its hard to know what to believe with these marketing schemes but because of the amount of people questioning their products they have become quite popular... which is what they probably wanted. they make their money off the "shipping" which isnt alot but they are still getting their name out there. and if you see some that you like on their site dont be afraid to order them because they arent doing anything sketchy... just trying to promote their up and coming business

    ReplyDelete
  44. Just burn it. Yes try to find these people for a

In America. Good Luck to all & I have to get. back to the North Pole!

  45. It isn't really a scam, Me and my family bought a couple pair of glasses. It was misleading when the gift card came (we received the same type of gift card) and said $500 gift card. So we ordered a bunch and then realized the 9% shipping fee. The price came out to like $1,095. So we fixed that and ordered four glasses for what ended up to be $50 dollars. So we got our glasses, some of us like them and some didn't. So a month later we got some more mail from them. This was a thank you for buying letter and 2 pairs of complimentary sunglasses! And then a month after that, The same thing! So from buying 4 pairs of glasses, and now they have sent us 4 more of their glasses for us to either "Give away" Or "Keep because we like them". Oh and two more $500 gift cards.

NOT A SCAM! Just a new business trying to get started.

  46. RECEIVED MY WATCH AND POLARIZED GLASSES IN THE MAIL TODAY. i ENDED UP PAYING $80 IN ALL WHILE USING THE GIFT CARD. IT TOOK A WEEK FOR ME TO RECEIVE MY STUFF AND I LIKE EVERYTHING. THE GLASSES ARE COMFORTABLE AND SEEM TO BE OF HIGH QUALITY. THE SAME GOES FOR THE WATCH. SO IT IS NOT A SCAM. THIS COMPANY IS JUST TRYING TO START OUT AND COMPETE IN A VERY COMPETITIVE FIELD, SO THEY WANT PEOPLE TO TRY THEIR PRODUCTS TO GET THE WORD OUT.

  48. I was going to buy a lot using this card and was not bothered by 9%...the scam/no scame thing is not an issue as it says on the card. This shows how people are though, the same people crying about 9% are probably the same people "occupying"!! I am not going to get these products bc they are made IN CHINA! we dont need to be supporting a country we already owe billions to...think about it people!

    ReplyDelete
  49. If you read on the card, it tells you about the 9% service fee so you didn't need to go on to their website to learn this. And paying $50for $500 worth of sunglasses seems like a great deal to me. Paying $50 for one pair of polarized sunglasses is a good deal. Unless you have any facts proving that this is a scam, shut the fuck up, no one wants to hear about what you have to say you dumb fucking cunt. :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Scam? If you can read, (which most Americans have proven they cannot since everyone is in debt or foreclosed on for borrowing money in one way or another) no where does the card say FREE. All the info, that anyone that can comprehend English, is stated on the card. And to the idiots that say yer boycotting China, well yer either a hypocrite or living in a card board box. Wait, that box is probably made in China too...

    ReplyDelete
  51. LOL at everyone saying "They were made in China"

Where do you think Ray Bans and most of Oakleys are made? Not to mention tons of other brands.

Look up the Italian company Luxottica, then see where in China all their stuff is made.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I wish all of you calling this $500 gift card a scam would shut the fuck up and go sit the fuck down. How is it a scam when you are paying a small amount of money and receiving a product? So the product is made is China....AND? So it may have only cost $5.00 to make....most of the things we buy cost less to make than what we pay for them! It's called MAKING A PROFIT! Even if there was no 9% service fee, people would still be crying foul because some of you bastards are just NEVER SATISFIED!!! It were totally free, it's be too good to be true. There's a service charge and now it's considered a scam. Here's what needs to be done: Those who feel it's a scam, or not worth the service fee should throw the card away and stay off the blogs claiming it's a scam. Those of us who feel this is fair deal should order to our heart's content and give honest reviews of our experiences with this up and coming company.

    ReplyDelete
  53. achinalyAs for paying 9$ for glasses that only cost a few bucks to make, how much do you think it costs to make a pair of 200$ Oakley glasses? And if you don't want to buy anything made outside the USA then you should go through your house and start throwing almost everthing out and stop shopping at Walmart!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Just received the glasses I ordered and this is no scam. It cost 60 bucks and 'yes' it took a little longer than it should have to get them shipped, but these are definitely worth more than $10 each. My girl got 2 pairs and 3 went to me and they all fit great. They are a mixture of polarized and scratch/fog resistant. Guys, almost nothing in this world is ever free, but this comes as close to it as one can hope for.

    ReplyDelete
  55. The scam is not that they are asking you to pay 9% because they are telling you that in the beginning. It is a ridiculous amount of money to pay for shipping and handling of such a small light item but they are upfront about it so it is not a scam. What IS a scam is that they are trying to tell you the items "retail" for FAR more than you could buy them in any Wal-mart, K-mart, Target, or even gas station across the country.

    ReplyDelete
  56. The people who are defending this company by saying that "you need to read" the offer to understand it make me laugh. It is obvious that THEY are incapable of reading!

If you go to the "service fee legal disclosure" link on their web site, you will find the following:

"There is a 9% Service Fee (per item) that pays for all expenses that RedStar incurs to get the product into your hands. This 9% service fee includes: USPS First Class delivery, processing and handling, and general overhead which includes; customer service, order processing, warehousing, labor, cost of goods and materials, profit, and marketing."

Think about that - the "fee" includes labor, cost of goods and materials, and profit. That means that "fee" covers the costs to make the products, and a profit on top of that! In other words, you are paying for the value of the product, and the company is also making money! So, the products are not a deal; Red Star is getting what they are worth, plus a profit!

This isn't a scam, technically. But Red Star is using deceptive advertising to get you to pay the fair market value for their products. You are buying cheap crap, no matter what the suckers who say otherwise want to believe.

    P.T. Barnum would be proud.

I don't trust this company. After ordering some sunglasses from them my credit card started getting strange charges on it that I didn't make. I don't think it was a coincidence. buyer beware.

  58. These are not cheap sunglasses. I ordered mine a few days ago, and I got them in the mail today. I would recommend these to anyone, I love them! My friend paid $250 for a pair of Oakley's and these are of the same or even better quality. Oakley's are produce for the same amount of money, all your really paying for with them is the brand. And the 9% fee covers all of their costs and shipping. Any company Isn't gonna make something for $5 and sell it for $5. If you think they're going to, your retarded. Redstar is a new company trying to get started, that's why they're giving people the $500 card. Its called marketing. If you saw a pair of Oakley's or Spy's in a case next to a brand of equal quality that you've never heard of and cost less, I will bet that all of you would buy the Oakley's or Spy's just because everyone else has them. This is why it is so hard for new companies to get started. And if your not gonna buy them because they're not made in the US, then you might as well not buy anything because 99% of everything sold in the US is made in other countries. American cars aren't even made here! I'm tired of reading all of the comments about how they're made in china, and that they're low quality, and that its a scam. The people saying these things are the people who have never gone through this company. Listen to someone who has actually bought they're products, instead of the fucking retards who like to complain about something they know nothing about. Buy them!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Anonymous4:16 PM

I'd be willing to bet most of the positive comments left here are from members of the company. Not only did I have the problem with credit card fraud, but the cheap sunglasses broke within two weeks.

  60. I was apprehensive before ordering these but figured I would try. I received 7 pairs of glasses and 2 watches for less than $100. Gave them out as Christmas presents and my family loved them. The quality and variety are great, I received them within a short time and even exchanged 2 pair with no hassle.
I have since cracked the lens on my pair and you can still see through them perfectly which would not be the case with some cheap glasses from the gas station. I was impressed with redstar.

    ReplyDelete
  61. The sad part is they actually lie about the 9% charge too, an order I made was worth $438 which should have been $39.42 but the actual service charge was $71.10. That is about a 16.23% service charge! I tried over and over to figure out how this would be a 9% charge but the fact of the matter is that there is no way it is 9%! My opinion, find a different site or suck it up and buy the items you want for the service charge.

  67. In my opinion, this is not a scam. However, it is the definition of what is wrong with our society today. It is frustrating to see a company like this (and MANY MANY other companies) take advantage of people who think they are getting something for free. It is obviously a lower quality product that they have chosen to sell for only the "shipping and handling" fee, but make it look like you are getting a GREAT deal because of the gift card. For all those saying you are getting $500 for $45, how do you know the product cost that much? It obviously didn't or else the company would not be in business. And here is where my point is. Capitalism is single handidly ruining our society. Why do you think the banking and real estate market crashed? Greedy greedy people. Think about it. And please talk about this with someone else because it will not stop until people become educated about it. Thank you for reading this.

  68. **YOU MUST READ THIS BEFORE YOU ORDER***

I DID ORDER FROM REDSTAR. AGREE THERE WAS A SHIPING CHARGE, A LITTLE ON THE HIGH SIDE BUT, I FIGURED THE PRODUCT ITSELF WAS FREE SO WHAT THE HECK, IT WOULD ALL WASH OUT IN THE END... I PLACED MY ORDER BACK IN AUGUST OF 2011. REC'D ALL OF MY PRODUCTS, SPENT ABOUT $60, 2 WATCHES AND 3 PAIR OF SUNGLASSES. THE GLASSES WHERE O.K. NOTHING GREAT. THE WATCHES ON THE OTHER HAND WERE JUNK..BUT HERE IS THE SCAMMMM PART...HERE IT IS APRIL 2012, 8 MONTHS AFTER PLACING MY ONE AND ONLY ORDER AND I REC'D AN UNEXPECTED PACKAGE FROM REDSTAR TODAY CONTAINING 2 PAIR OF SUNGLASSES. A CARD WAS ENCLOSED SAYIN "ENCLOSED ARE YOUR COMPLIMENTRY* SUNGLASSES" "THANKS FOR HAVING HELPED US WITH THIS BRAND AWARENESS CAMPAIGN, SHARE THEM WITH YOUR FRIENDS" NOTICE THE * AFTER COMPLIMENTRY. AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CARD IT SAYS *you have already paid the service fee. I CHECKED MY BANK ACCOUNT AND SURE ENOUGH THEY CHARGED MY ACCOUNT $19.80. WAITING TO SEE IF I WILL BE GIVEN A CREDIT. SO YES, THIS IS A SCAM. I WAS AWARE OF THE SHIPING FEES AN AGREED HOWEVER, I WAS NEVER INFORMED OF THAT THEY WOULD CONTINUE TO SHIP COMPLIMENTARY STUFF AND THEN CHARGE ME. Up to this point I was satisfied with Redstar.hmmmmm. Are they that hard up for sales?

  69. I fell victim to this marketing. I do have a few things to say. This is not a scam; they will send you sunglasses. However, they do charge an amount that is about double of their 9% and it gets greater the more you order! They will respond to you via email, but they will not support you - that is, customer service. I ordered a certain pair, they sent me the wrong item, admitted to it, asked that I send the pair back and would charge me a restocking fee (25%), charge me for the correct pair and bill me again!

The glasses are typical department store quality - there is nothing special. So, if you think you are getting a quality pair for not much money, be prepared to pay more than they say, accept what they send you, and where average sunglasses!

  70. This reminds me of the $1000 online shopping spree a local car dealer was giving away a couple of years ago with every test drive. Trouble was, you ended up paying more for the shipping and handling than the same item would have cost on Amazon.com. I didn't bite on that one either.

Personally, I do not need the hassle. Great marketing trick because you know they will get plenty of orders.

  71. Red Star is not a scam. I have ordered high quality sunglasses from them, and have been pleased. In fact I was wearing a pair of their aviator glasses while having some expensive Rudy Project cycling glasses repaired, the technician asked me if my sunglasses were from Rudy Project. I told him no, he cheked the quality and indicated they sell similar sunglasses for $80.00, I only paid the shipping.

  72. I got one of these cards together with other gift cards (real) as a thank you and had no idea that this one was "working" this way. What points towards a scam is that I can't log-out, cancel my account, unsubscribe. I don't know who is behind this company, where it's located at, etc etc. At least I didn't place the order.

  73. Not a scam. I've ordered from here in the past, had no problems at all, AND it says RIGHT ON THE WEBSITE that you will be charged this 9% service fee! Now, we all know that these glasses aren't really $180, $200, $250, etc., but, you can still pay between 10 and 20 bucks for a nice pair of shades here. I just bought a pretty decent watch from here for $12 as well. So, just READ people!

  74. When i was in Iraq in 2010 this Company was pretty much just starting, It says on their page and even the gift cards they send out themselves that you have to pay the service fee. Unless an ad says you don't pay i shipping and handling plan on paying that at the least. I bought a total of 13 items totaling only $15 max. It's not a scam

  75. I got one of those cards after signing up for a race. I thought it was too good to be true but I figured I would at least look into it. I picked the shades from their website and I paid the ridiculous S&H fees. When the products arrived, they were not REDSTAR sunglasses. They were some brand called EXILE and it had a red X as its logo. Needless to say, not what I had selected. I am sending these back and hope I get my money back. I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy from this website

  77. It clearly states in the offer that you pay shipping. My daughter used to play the violin. It cost me $30 month rental fees for the violin she used. I found a brand new one on eBay, with case, bow, and extra strings and rosin. The catch? The violin cost $1, but the shipping was $25. So, $26 for a brand new student violin...hmmmm. You do the math. $50 for $500 worth of merchandise...you must be a fool to think you are being ripped off.

  79. Ok everyone it does state that you have to pay shipping and handling and I have bought from them a few time b/c these glasses are actually fairly durable. I have 3 young kids who got a hold of them and the withstood that beating. The lenses are close to being scratch resistant. It's not a horrible deal. Nothing is ever totally free. For what I intended them for they actually exceeded my expectations.
