This is a new weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 20 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 20 years here in a weekly blog post.
It was fairly quiet this week but a few homeless people have set up a tent right outside my courtyard and I had been walking on that sidewalk right there when I walk Falcor but they yell at you when you walk by so I've been going the other way. They keep going to the apartment at the end of my courtyard that I complained to the new manager about for probably selling drugs. They have so much traffic at their apartment and the people just stay for a few seconds and then leave. It's pretty obvious what's going on.
I took this picture from my door. You can see where the homeless tent is. I'm hoping they move on to somewhere else pretty soon. I wouldn't care at all if they weren't harassing people as they walk by. The one guy that is in there might have schizophrenia because twice he's come out of the tent really fast and shouted nonsense at me. Then starts waving his hands around and talks to himself. I'm a little afraid I or someone else is going to get attacked walking by the tent one of these nights. But I also don't want to make these people's lives harder by calling the police on them.

DeleteYou might well have to call the police if the manager won't do anything about the drug house. You have to look after yourself first!
ReplyDeleteI have on other apartments but unless I can say that I see them selling drugs and am willing to testify in court about it, the police won't do anything.
DeleteI hope the problem with the drug house can be resolved son, and the man can get help. I hate that you have to worry about your safety. Hugs,RO

DeleteYes, I would be concerned, too. You just don't know what people with mental illnesses might do. It's sad that the only option is to call the police.

DeleteI should think the police notifies the proper authorities if there's a mental illness involved. So, perhaps calling them might help the man.

DeleteThat is quite scary - especially because the situation (and the people) are so unpredictable. Hope it gets sorted out soon!

DeleteIt's good that you avoid that area. Hopefully something can be done. It's a shame people have to live in fear because of a few druggies.

DeleteIt's no fun having to contend with drug dealers and a crazy homeless person so close to home. I hope they move on soon so you'll feel safer.

DeleteThat's tough, Mary. So many homeless people are in that position due to drug use and mental illness so I get not wanting to make things harder. Stay safe!

Deleteyikes ): that sounds and looks terrible. Maybe the police is the way to go to have them removed. I'd probably feel unsafe, even if the situation is sad. I can't say I miss living in apartment complexes anymore.
ReplyDeleteThe police usually don't remove them and if they do they're back the same night.
DeleteI hope they're able to find some shelter elsewhere. The screaming at me would freak me out so much.

DeleteWhat about contacting the news? "The police won't help unless I will testify in court after I do their job by observing and reporting.... why don't you set up somewhere with your cameras and help?"

DeleteThat's a tough situation to be in. It'd make me so uncomfortable every time I left my home. Fingers crossed they move on soon.

ReplyDeleteIt is always sad to think that mental illness pushed people to be homeless. That is difficult for you too. Hopefully it will work itself out, so you don't have to call the cops on them.
