Apartment Life #278
This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.
I noticed that a vacant apartment's windows were boarded up. I guess that's just what they do now to keep the apartment's from being broken into over the weekends. The vacant apartments used to get broken into over the weekends all the time but it hasn't been as big a problem in a while.
----
Wednesday night I was woken up from the flashing lights from this police car right across the street from my bedroom window. It was 2am and he did shut his flashing lights off after a minute but I was already awake by that time. So I got a blurry picture of the police car. All the bright lights from the freeway do help with taking pictures at night but they still come out blurry but at least you can see it's a police car.
I watched the police going into one of the downstairs apartments across the street and were talking to people over there.
And then 2 more police cars showed up and an ambulance (I didn't get a picture of that) drove behind the building into the alley. The bright lights in this picture are of another police car that had their flashing lights on and they were blocking off the street with their headlights pointed towards me so it was really bright.
I saw someone be taken out of that courtyard across the street on a stretcher and taken to the hospital in the ambulance. No idea what happened but the police were there for over an hour when I decided to go back to bed. I have no idea when they left.
The high this week was 81F/27C
The low this week was 52F/11C
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

Police (and ambulances) are a rarity in our street. I hope the person taken to hospital is ok.
ReplyDeleteI hope so too.
DeleteMaybe someone ODed? 😟 Anyhow, I hope you don't need much sleep to function, because it seems like you never get any around there...
ReplyDeleteI get some. But Falcor wakes me up in the middle of the night to go out sometimes as well. lol
DeleteLet's hope the person on the stretcher is alive and well.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I hope so.
DeleteThat's some wakeup call. Did the ambulance leave with sirens on or off, if you recall?
ReplyDeleteNo, no sirens but they rarely leave with sirens on.
DeleteOh my, who knows what happened over there. 🤷♂️
ReplyDeleteWhat a mess. Scary, too! 😏
Yeah, who knows.
DeleteHi, Mary!
ReplyDeleteYessum, boarding up the windows of vacant apartments in your neighborhood keeps unwanted intruders out, and I just thought of another benefit. Those units will be in good shape the next time a hurricane strikes Vegas. :)
More nocturnal excitement on your block, and right across from your bedroom window! Like you, I am a light sleeper. Flashing lights are enough to wake me up, no sirens necessary. If that many vehicles responded to the scene, it was either a slow night for the police or foul play was somehow involved. I hope you learn more about what happened that night and give an update on the patient's condition.
Have a safe and happy week, dear friend Mary!
It seems like a lot happens right across from my bedroom window.
DeleteA Las Vegas hurricane? lol Now that would be something.
You know it's bad when they are boarding up just to keep people out of empty apartments. I wonder how many occupied apartments have been broken into?
ReplyDeleteA few years ago a lot of them were broken into over the weekends so the druggies and homeless people would have somewhere to stay over the weekends.
DeleteYes, its an annoyance when the EMTs show up. I am one to call the police and even accidently alert the police as there is a button on the UBER app that does this as well. Opps!
ReplyDeletelol oops.
DeleteMaybe this is a dumb question, but how do people know an apartment is vacant? Couldn’t the leasing office just have the curtains shut?
ReplyDeleteThe druggies and homeless either see that they move out, they see maintenance going in and changing the locks or like this one, they saw the family moving his things out.
DeleteIt is always eventful in your neighborhood. We thankfully haven't had much action near us, but we have had our share of wild police presence in the past.
ReplyDeleteSomething happens at least weekly. I probably miss some stuff that goes on out in the street.
DeleteI rarely sleep more than 4 hours a night. So I would be checking it all out too but really grumpy. I usually sleep to about three or four. I would be annoyed by losing that hour.
ReplyDeleteLast night it was a big ash cat fight in the garage that woke me.
I don't sleep much either and with the window open, I see a lot.
DeleteThose new-style headlights and emergency lights really are bright. They strobe on my bedroom ceiling sometimes when the police or fire are going by or pull someone over in front of our neighbor's.
ReplyDeleteOh not good about the person on the stretcher. Hope the person survived. Some of those domestic disturbances can get deadly.
The lights are very bright. I hope the person is ok too.
DeleteSo just another typical week. ;D
ReplyDeletePretty much.
DeleteIt might be interesting to have mic, to hear with.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
I'm sure it would be.
DeleteI am glad you stay indoors where you're, if not *safe* at least safer than you would be outdoors.
ReplyDeleteI watched Lisa Ling the other night, hubby recorded it months ago. It was about squatters and being homeless in Las Vegas. There were many homes/apartments that had people living in them who did not belong there. Lisa is compassionate and did a good job of explaining how people get to that point.
I was a little pissed off at one family who was evicted by the police... they packed their stuff into the trunk of their MERCEDES and were angry as they left.
It left me confused.
There are a lot of homeless people here that break into houses and apartments.
DeleteOh boy, you guys have to deal a lot with the police by you. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteI will try to.
DeleteThe lights must be annoying, they would keep me awake.
ReplyDeleteThey are at times.
DeleteYou must have many a sleepless night with all that activity going on!
ReplyDeleteSometimes. A lot of stuff happens during the day too so it's not all at night.
DeleteSo scary there. Who knows what was happening there.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I have no clue.
DeleteThat would be so tough to sleep at times when the cops are showing up left and right!
ReplyDeleteIt is at times.
DeleteIt's sad they have to board up the windows to protect it, but it's good they do. Sorry the night was so rough, but hoping the person is okay.
ReplyDeleteI hope they are too.
DeleteI hope that person is okay.....
ReplyDeleteI hope so too.
DeleteA real wake up call for sure
ReplyDeleteYeah it was.
DeleteHope the person is doing ok.
ReplyDeleteI hope so too.
DeleteIt sounds like a good thing they're boarding up the windows. Hope that person is okay. Sorry to hear your sleep was interrupted. It's hard to go back to sleep once you're wide awake.
ReplyDeleteIt is. I have that problem too.
DeleteThere are derelict buildings round here with their windows boarded up to keep out "undesirables". A shame they have to be protected like that.
ReplyDeleteYeah it is.
DeleteGlad the boarded-up windows is helping a bit!

I am too.
DeleteI hate when I see ambulances. I always worry about the person they are there for. When you don't know the person you never find out if everything turned out okay. 😐
ReplyDeleteThat's true. Sometimes I find out later what happened but not always.
