Recipe: Home Made White Bread
Recipe
1 Cup cold water
1/4 Cup milk
2 TBSP sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2 1/2 tsp yeast
1/4 Cup butter- melted
3 1/2 Cups flour
Instructions
Heat water and milk in a microwave safe cup for 1 minute. Add yeast and let sit for 2 minutes. Then add sugar, salt and butter.
Slowly add flour to liquid and mix well. You will need to mix this with your hands. Using a mixer is not necessary. Kneed dough for 10 minutes, form into ball and spread a tiny amount of vegetable oil over the top of the dough. Put dough in a large bowl, cover and let rise at room temperature for 2 hours.
Punch the dough down and kneed for about a minute. Shape into loaf and add to a greased loaf pan. Add bread pan to oven but don't turn oven on. Add a boiling pan of water to the oven and let bread rise for 30 minutes or until bread has risen to just above the rim of the loaf pan. Take pan of water out, and turn oven on 350F while bread is in the oven. Let bake for 30-40 minutes or until bread is done.
There is no need to preheat the oven when making this bread.
This was the dough after the first rise. It doubled in size while rising. It made a really good loaf of bread. And it's easy to make. I didn't even use a mixer or anything. You can totally mix this by hand.
Have you made homemade bread before?

There is very little that smells better than home made bread baking. It is way too long since I have made it. Thanks for the recipe and the reminder.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome.
DeleteWe have a bread machine and I bet it would work just as well.
ReplyDeleteI have a bread machine too but the loaves are always so short from mine for some reason.
DeleteI used to have a bread machine and made it all the time. I do not have good luck with dough rising on my own, but the machine took up so much space that I never replaced it.
ReplyDeleteI have a bread machine too. But this was so easy to make so I just had to try it.
DeleteOh nice!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteCame out beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you, it tasted pretty good too.
DeleteMmmm, looks good 🙂
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharin' the recipe, Mary 👏🏻
You're welcome.
DeleteBack in the day, when my sensitive gut could process flour products, I made my own bread in a bread machine.
ReplyDeleteI have a bread machine but wanted to try this recipe.
DeleteLooks great, Mary. We make a lot of banana bread and some French bread but not white bread.
ReplyDeleteFrench bread would be good too.
DeleteI'll give this a go - thank you for the recipe.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome.
DeleteI haven't made bread in ages. Thanks for the easy recipe, Mary. Bet your home smelt delicious. :)
ReplyDeleteIt really did and this was quite easy to make.
DeleteI haven't made homemade bread in forever! My mom used to make it all the time when I was growing up. There's nothing like that smell...or eating a still-warm slice that melts the butter. Yum! :D
ReplyDeleteThat's the truth.
DeleteI often make bread but I haven't lately. It's now homemade soup and homemade bread season so it's time to start!
ReplyDeleteThis is a really easy recipe for it. I love homemade bread.
DeleteNot preheating the oven is an interesting trick to allow the yeast to continue to grow a little longer, making a rounder loaf of bread
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure about that but it worked.
DeleteLooks nom! I do ever so love me savoury pastries.
ReplyDeleteI do too. It came out really good.
DeleteVery interesting. I've never tried to make bread outside of banana bread, which I've only done twice. This doesn't look too hard, I might have to give it a try. Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome. I hope you do give it a try.
DeleteI have never made yeast bread before. I thought it looked too difficult. I'll have to try it now! Thanks for the recipe. I make beer bread that's good, and for Christmas dinner I "make" mini bread loaves with store bought pizza dough. 🍞
ReplyDeleteI hope it comes out well. Pizza loaf bread sounds interesting.
DeleteI have never made bread before. But- I love the smell and taste of bread. It may be something I need to try making this winter. :)
