This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.
It's been getting colder at night so the police and people from the homeless shelter have been around early in the morning trying to round up the homeless people and take them to the shelters. There were 2 people living on the left hand side here where the officer if walking. There's a electrical box near the sidewalk where they had made a bed and cover. The electrical boxes have some heat coming from them and that's why the homeless make their shelters around them this time of year. The police were over there asking them if they wanted to go to the shelter but they didn't go. They just packed up their stuff and walked away. The shelter van came by soon after and the police and van moved down the street.
The police and shelter van had moved down the street a little ways to where more homeless were by another electrical box. There were at least 6 people down by this one and several of the people got in the shelter van to go to the homeless shelter.
A lot of the homeless that get in the van I see show back up around here within a week or two. They aren't allowed to do drugs at the shelter and most of the homeless that have been around here for years I see at drug dealer's apartment all the time. I think that's why most of them stay around here because they have access to drugs at drug dealer's apartment and they also feed them sometimes.
----
I walked outside and saw two female crackheads on the ground hitting each other Wednesday night.
I felt like screaming, "Let's get ready to Rumble!" lol
But they got up and walked away.
At the same time that was happening there were street 3 fire engines, an ambulance and I saw a red truck I am assuming is the fire chief's truck. One of the fire trucks had the ladder on it. Haven't seen that in a while. I didn't spot any fires so I don't know what kind of call would call for 3 fire engines.
----
My daughter was sitting outside at 1am Thursday morning when she got a short video of police at drug dealer's apartment. No idea why they were there.
The high this week was 59F/15C
The low this week was 32F/0 C
So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.
It is a wonder to me that the police don't shut that drug dealer down. Permanently.
ReplyDeleteLots of our homeless have trouble with the shelters too - not least because they can't take their pets.
The police have been at his apartment so many time that they have to know what goes on there.
DeleteWow, your weather has been similar to ours. I didn’t know the electric boxes gave off any heat. It’s nice that the shelters run vans to try to transport those who want it, but yeah, most don’t.
ReplyDeleteI saw a phone company van by one of the boxes so their might be different boxes over there. Not sure now. But yeah, you can feel a little heat coming from underneath them.
DeleteHi, Mary!
ReplyDeleteHappy day after, dear friend! I hope you, your daughter and my good buddy Falcor had a peaceful and joyful Christmas.
It's sad that the regulars among the homeless would rather endure the cold than be distanced from their source of drugs for even a short time. I can hardly imagine what it's like to huddle near an electrical box for warmth as they sleep on the street. It's shameful that drug dealing is one business that continues to thrive in any economy.
I just made up new lyrics that seem to describe the "Twelve Days of Christmas" in your neighborhood:
Five hel-i-cop-ters
Four cops a knocking
Three fy-er engines
Two crackheads fighting
And a partridge in a pear tree
Have a safe and happy final week of 2021, dear friend Mary!
Thank you, we had a nice day. I hope you did too.
DeleteThe twelve days of Christmas remix is too funny.
Business as usual
ReplyDeleteYep, seems like it always will be.
DeleteHey, it was a quiet week, all things considered. At least no one threatened you with a baseball bat LOL.
ReplyDeleteLOL That's true.
DeleteIts nice of the police to round up the homeless. they don't really do that in Minnesota unless there's an emergency and send them to detox, which is a nice stay out of the cold.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I wish it was a better place for them to go to.
Delete"Let's get ready to rumble" ROFLMAO. Had you said that, they'd have probably both jumped on you. That IS nice that the police care about the homeless during this cold spell.
ReplyDeleteThey probably would have jumped on me. I was thinking it in my head though.
DeleteNot sure why my previous comment didn’t take! Your temps sound like ours right now! It’s nice that the shelters use a van to try to transport people, but as you know, most don’t want to go.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice and cold here now. I love it.
DeleteSo a quiet week for you. ;D
ReplyDeleteYeah, pretty much.
DeleteI cannot imagine the radiation coming off those electrical boxes is any good for them either.
ReplyDeleteYeah I hadn't thought of that.
DeleteSuch a shame about the drugs- what a scourge for people already down.
ReplyDeleteThe cops would probably love to bust drug dealer if they could...
Oh I'm sure they would love to. They should rent the vacant apartment right across from him and do surveilance.
DeleteThere are no holidays for the druggies or the down and outers just another day. Very sad.
ReplyDeleteYeah it is.
DeleteVery sad. I am glad where I live is low drama. I wish you a safe and happy holiday season.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Books of My Heart
Thank you.
DeleteI guess the hardest thing for me to understand is why the drug sellers remain in business.
ReplyDeleteI don't get it either.
DeleteI just can't imagine, you've got your own episode of COPS every night. Be safe!
ReplyDeletePretty much every night.
DeleteIt sad how many homeless people in united states.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Yeah, it really is.
DeleteIt has been cooling down here as well. We've been enjoying the rain. I hear the call for more homeless shelters all the time around here, but that is not really the problem. It's that those on drugs would prefer to stay on the street than go somewhere where they cannot use.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a nice Christmas, Mary. Take care!
That's very true.
DeleteI don't understand why they wouldn't want to go to a shelter when it's been so cold out. Hope you had a lovely Christmas, Mary!
ReplyDeleteBecause a lot of them are drug users and they can't use drugs in the shelter plus the drug dealer lives here.
DeleteThat is so heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteIt is.
DeleteI think homeless people issue is world's issue. Especially in winters, here you can see many Homeless in bus-stops, infront of banks, undergrounds etc. Time will be 2022 but If we call the police, they try to help them.
ReplyDeleteThe police don't do much here for the homeless unless they ask to go to a shelter which they hardly ever do.
DeleteInteresting that the homeless people cluster round the electrical boxes because they emit heat. The electric boxes round here (Belfast) don't emit heat and so don't attract the homeless.
ReplyDeleteI think some of the boxes are phone boxes too. I saw the phone company at one the other day.
DeleteHomelessness is such a problem as is drug addiction. Stay safe, Mary!
ReplyDeleteI will try.
