Apartment Life #294

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.

The police were across the street on Monday morning. They were walking up and down the street talking to people but I took this from my bedroom window so I wasn't outside for them to talk to me so I have no idea what they were asking people. They left after about an hour.

I took this picture about a month ago and didn't post anything about it because I wanted to see if maintenance was going to do anything about it. But of course they didn't and now it's been over a month. What you are seeing is raw sewage once again. If you've been around for a while you know we deal with a raw sewage problem at least a couple times a year. This is the clean out drain from the end of the apartment building across from me. Each building has one at each end of the building so when the plumbing gets backed up the plumber has a way to get his snake into the pipes.

The hole has a plug on it that tightens down with a screw type of thing. So it's supposed to stop the raw sewage from coming out the end and instead go down the pipes inside the walls like it's supposed to. But it looks like the water/sewage has eaten through the cap they put on this end and the water is coming out the end anyway. I've watched maintenance walk right by this mess several times and see it but they haven't done anything about it. I've emailed the office and gotten no response. I haven't said anything to the one maintenance guy I see around here most of the time, personally because he doesn't like me for some reason. I've said hi to him a few times and he just stares at me and I know he understands me because I've heard him speaking to other people.

I've also started spotting used needles again. The homeless traffic has gotten worse because there's a person across the street that is selling drugs from one of their windows. I'm going to try and get a video of people walking up to the window and knocking on it and exchanging money for something small (drugs). But I don't want them to see me filming them. You just never know who has a gun around here. But they are definitely dealing from their window across the street and that has brought a lot more druggies to my street.

----

My neighbor from last week who was watching porn was singing this week and saying rude, weird things really loudly. He did this for about an hour last Sunday.

The same guy who is singing in the video also left sushi in front of his door. He's also the guy who left the hotdogs in front of his door a few weeks ago. He lives two doors down from me, so I can hear him really clearly when he starts shouting.

I enlarged it so you could see it better. I don't know what is up with this guy, he might have mental problems. I can only hope he moves out soon.

The high this week was 81F/27C
The low this week was 39F/3C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

  1. Have you tried reporting the leaking sewage to the county health department or whatever it's called? That's a significant disease hazard.

It sounds like the porn singer sushi guy is habitually drunk or on drugs.

    1. Yes, the health department has been called several times. This place gets a fine and that's it. They would rather pay the fine I guess.

  2. Hi, Mary!

Seems every direction you turn, up and down your block, there's a disturbing sight, sound and/or smell. The maintenance man, I'll call him "Mr. Goodwrench," probably won't speak to you because he knows you regularly report problems, giving him unwanted, unsavory tasks to perform. I'm really sorry to know that more druggies are flocking to your neighborhood and scattering spent needles on the ground. It makes me sad that my buddy Falcor needs to navigate a dangerous mine field on his daily walks. So now I'm learning that the loud singing, rude talking, porn watching guy is the same guy who puts sushi and hotdogs in front of his door. I tend to agree that these are all signs, albeit subtle and barely detectable, that he might, just might, have mental problems.

I wish you a safe and happier week ahead, dear friend Mary!

    1. I am thinking he has mental problems too. He wasn't like this last year so I'm assuming he went off his meds.

  3. I concur with Shady as to why the maintenance man is mad dogging you. Hot dogs last time Sushi this time, glad to know that neighbor is eating better. Things are getting worse and more desperate insofar as homelessness. Drugs aren't helping, neither is the ever-increasing cost of rent. Something has to change for the better. Hang in there until it does.

  4. Sushi on the sidewalk. Disgusting, but not as bad as the sewage spilling out. Anyone you can call? Like the City Health Department? I'm sure they'd be interested.

  5. Yes, you’ve got to assume someone who puts sushi on a sidewalk is not all there upstairs!

    1. He's about to invent the world's least appetizing delicacy, sidewalk sewage sushi.....

    2. I tend to agree. I don't think he eats anything he puts out there. And the porter comes by and cleans it up.

  6. so weird that he keeps putting food on the sidewalk. I wonder what his thought process is with that.

  7. Maybe he thinks it'll cook faster, being Vegas and all that heat. Not sure what the temp is there now.

    1. It's still Winter here right now. I put the temps at the bottom of the post each week.

  8. Sometimes I think the world has gone crazy. Or has it always been crazy and I just didn't realize it?

  9. LOL, I'm sure the maintenance guy can hear you you just fine, and I agree with the other commenters - he's just trying to avoid the only (person?) who's urging him to do his job. The whole thing is a disgrace, what with the office playing deaf.

I wonder if the porn guy has family? Because putting his food out in the sun is a huge red flag...

    1. I don't know if he has family. I have only seen the visiting doctor and nurses at his place.

  22. Leaving sushi out? Sounds like the guy has mental issues. Hope they fix the sewage problem! Not healthy at all.

  23. A raw sewage overflow is no joke. You'd think someone could solve the problem permanently so it doesn't keep occurring.

  24. The raw sewage is definitely a problem. Yuck!
