This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 24 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 24 years here in a weekly blog post.
These two people were sitting on the sidewalk right outside my window smoking on the crack pipe Monday evening. The dude passed out but she kept still hitting the crack pipe. I should say they were smoking from a glass pipe that is a lot of times used for meth and crack but as someone pointed out to me that other drugs can be smoked from the glass pipes as well. Since the guy passed out and meth and crack are both stimulants, it stands to reason that they were either smoking some other drug or he overdosed and it had the opposite effect on him.
I looked outside about an hour later to see if they were still there and she had left but he was still there passed out on the sidewalk. It was about 105F/40c at that time and he had on a jacket so I was a little worried about him. I called 911 and had medics come check him out. Just wanted to make sure he wasn't dead or overdosed on drugs. They woke him up, checked him out and let him go. I would have felt bad if I did nothing and he was dead or sick or something.

So if you look really hard you might be able to make out the tire and small amount of the police car on the right side of this palm tree. LOL
The tree was in the way when I was trying to take a picture from my window. But the police showed up in my courtyard when my neighbors daughter and son in law were at her apartment and they started fighting. The police said it was mutual combat but neither of them wanted to press charges on the other and the police left. I'm really surprised they didn't both go to jail for mutual combat because I've seen that happen a few times around here.

There was a woman in the pool courtyard where the bank of mailboxes are that came out and started yelling at my daughter. She said for her to tell her mother (me) to stop breaking into the pool with all the drug addicts and let her dogs go swimming.
I promise you it wasn't me. LOL
So my daughter asked her what the lady looked like and it turned out she was talking about drug dealer's wife! LOL
So my daughter told her it wasn't me and told her what I look like. So it turns out that the lock on the swimming pool is broken and drug dealer's wife has been taking her houseful of druggies out to the pool mostly at night when maintenance is gone after 5pm and she's letting the 3 dogs that are also living in her place in the pool too and it's pissing off the people in the pool courtyard.
The high this week was 108F/42C
The low this week was 78F/25C

DeleteSuch degradation, to be doing drugs out in public and finally pass out on a random sidewalk, dependent on the concern of a stranger to make sure you don't die. How do people sink to this? On a certain level, perhaps they hope to die.

ReplyDeleteI see that things are really heating up in your neighborhood, dear friend - the temp and the number of wild and crazy incidents. No one should have to see what you saw when you looked out your window. You certainly did the right thing by calling for assistance when that man wearing a coat was passed out on the sidewalk in 105 degree heat. It's telling that medical responders simply woke him up, checked him out and sent him on his way. The system is obviously overloaded. The same can be said about police making zero arrests following a domestic altercation in your neighbor's apartment. On your block, it seems to take a heck of a lot to actually get arrested.
The craziest story of all is the drug dealer's wife breaking the lock and routinely taking her customers and dogs for a midnight swim in the community pool. Hot as it is there, I don't think I'd be hopping into that pool any time soon but, if you do... please - please - don't drink the water!

People have to consent to going to the ER. There's nothing the fire dept, or paramedics can do if you don't want to go get help. Unless you are unconscious, you can say no to going.

DeleteYou did the right thing calling for medics. With the amount of fentanyl pouring over our borders right now, don't be surprised if it thins out the druggie population.

ReplyDeleteMany people think of the homeless and druggies as not quite human any more, and not worthy of the same level of concern as a "real person". Even some 911 operators probably react that way.

DeleteWow, I'm surprised there is a pool area where you live for some reason. Pools are great. I went swimming this week and its so relaxing. I'm glad you called for help for that guy.
ReplyDeleteWe have a pool and it's cleaned every week only so that the health dept. doesn't shut it down and they can use that as an amenity in their ads as a selling point in the renters websites. But it's been closed to us being able to use it for 3 years.
DeleteYou did the right thing to have that guy checked out. I bet that woman complaining about the pool won't have the guts to yell at drug dealer's wife.

DeletePool parties, druggies and dogs welcomed. Don't think I would want to swim in that pool. Good that you called for that druggie to be checked on. I'm thinking with all that heat and he has a heavy coat on, he must be fried. :)

Your neighbors sound like they would be a joy to hang out with...lol. I am glad that you were able to get someone out to make sure that guy was okay.

DeleteYou were right to ask the medics to check on the man lying on the pavement. I would also have felt bad doing nothing while he may have been dying.

ReplyDeleteI thought it was weird for him to be laying there all that time. I had to have him checked out. The pool drama was funny to me.

I think for many it's easy to turn a blind eye to the homeless and drug addicted. I'm glad you weren't one of them and had someone come check him out.

I just wanted to make sure he was ok. I'm not worried about the dogs being in the pool, more the other people who are out there.
