Apartment Life # 347

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that go on in and around my apartment complex in the past 25 years that we've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 25 years here in a weekly blog post.

The is where maintenance turns the water off for our building if they have to make a repair to a pipe or water heater. So our water was turned off for a little bit while the maintenance guy was repairing something. I was outside walking Falcor and the maintenance guy sees me and says, "Where's my little girlfriend?"

Me: "I don't know, who's your girlfriend?"

Maintenance Guy: "Your daughter. It's a joke between her and I."

Me: "Really? I hadn't heard about this. Is she aware of this joke because it's the first I'm hearing about it."

Maintenance Guy: o.O *Just stares at me.*

lol So I come back inside and tell my daughter and she is like nope, we have never joked about that. That man is like my age not my daughter's age and she's not interested in him. My daughter went outside later and he came up to her and said some stuff that had I been there, I would have told him off and then he asked to see her phone so he could put his phone number in it. She said she didn't have it on her and came home. She told me if he came to the door to tell him she wasn't home. Good thing he never came to the door. The nerve of this dude. I don't want to have to tell off another creepy old guy sniffing around my daughter, especially the maintenance guy that works here but I will if he doesn't drop it after this. Just wow.

Oh and he left the access to the water shut off valve like that when he was done that day. Someone else put the cover back on the next day. I mean he was right there to turn the water back on after he was done with the repair so why didn't he replace the cover while he was there?
----

6am on Wednesday morning we woke up to the sound of 6 gunshots. Had to get up and make sure my daughter and grandson were alright. I was going to call the police but I looked outside and saw two police cars on the street within a few minutes, they got out looked around and left.

About an hour later Falcor needed to go out so I took him and noticed bullet holes in the wall at the end of my building. That means it was an apartment just 5 doors away from mine, in the same building that got shot up.

The bullet holes are right into someone's bedroom so I called the police and told them.

A few minutes later 3 police cars showed up. It was 6 cops all together, I showed them the bullet holes and they started looking on the ground for bullet casings. I talked to them for a while and the one cop asked me if I had knocked on the guys door. I said no because I don't know what's going on in that apartment and that's why I called them. I mean I don't know if the gunshots came from inside or outside. Someone inside the apartment might have a gun. I'm not knocking on any doors.

The police had that end of my courtyard and the front of his apartment where the bullet holes are roped off with police tape. The guy that lives in that apartment was outside with the police and he unlocked his door to let the police in. They were yelling for anyone in the apartment to come out with their hands up. I don't think he was home when the shooting happened. But I didn't see anyone come out. Maybe they thought the gunshots came from inside the apartment? I don't know. Oh and this apartment is right next door to drug dealer's apartment. So who knows if they were shooting at him or this guy.

The front where I found the bullet holes are was taped off too. There's 4 police cars out there but you can't really see all of them. They were here for about 2 hours, the crime scene investigator came, took pictures and then everyone left.

The high this week was 69F/20C
The low this week was 42F/5C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

  1. Hi, Mary!

    Happy new year, dear friend!

You hinted that you'd have a lot to report in this edition of your Sunday series, and you were right. Just what you didn't need - another creepy old guy trying to get something started with your daughter! Yessum, it puts you in a bind, because he happens to be the maintenance man. It's hard enough getting him to respond when you put in a work order for repairs. If you tell him off for pursuing your daughter, he might never show up. Clearly, the guy doesn't have his mind on his work, because he did a shoddy job of repairing that pipe.

It is very alarming that shots were fired into a unit five doors down from you. If it was right next to the drug dealer's headquarters, it seems likely there's a connection. I think Morgan Brody and Nick Stokes should have a look around. I certainly hope investigators can get to the bottom of it and make an arrest. This is troubling.

Let's hope that 2023 is a quieter, more peaceful year for you and your family, including my good buddy Falcor. Happy new year, dear friend Mary!

    1. Happy new year, Shady.
We heard a lot of gunshots around here last night as well. Hopefully it will be a quieter year.

  2. Creepy - both accounts. I'd let management know about the repair guy.

  3. I had a dream about a shooting last night. I think he had something to do with the fact that earlier in the day, I was talking about this guy who I went to school with had gotten shot or was in a concussion or something because he had to have a fixator on his head.

  7. Well, your New Year started off with a bang, both literally and figuratively. What do creepy old broke assed guys, like drug dealer and maintenance man, think there is anything about them a young girl would want. Delusional.

  9. Happy New Year Mary!

Wow, just wow! I'm creeped out on your daughter's behalf. What's with creepy old guys hitting on young girls? ugh and he's your maintenance, that makes it so much worse. I hope he got the message and backs down.

And the gunshots! That's so scary! It's probably a mis-target and they were intended for the drug dealer's apartment. but how scary! Y'all be careful (not that you aren't already)!

    1. My daughter is 31 years old but she's still my baby and sometimes I feel like I need to do things on her behalf. But she let him know that she isn't interested.

We heard more gunshots last night as well. No bullet holes thankfully though. We will definitely try to be careful.

  14. Wow! There's a lot to unpack here! First of all what a creep (the maintenance guy)! Why do old guys always think that women, at any age, would be falling all over them? The guy needs to get a clue! As for the gunshots, thank goodness they didn't hurt you, your daughter or grandson! Stay safe!

  18. Oh my goodness Mary - what a way to end 2022! Glad your daughter has her head on straight and hopefully that dude won't bug her again. I feel like this has happened before, hasn't it? And WOW! Gunshots so close. I can't believe that the cops showed up and then left. But I guess if they don't see anything going on... Anyhow, I'm glad you and your family are safe. Here's to a less adventurous, more calm 2023!

    1. Oh yes, this has happened a couple of times in the past few years. it's been a few years but three apartments in my courtyard were all shot up on another New Year's Eve. Thankfully no one was hurt that time either.

  20. I hope the maintenance man doesn't make more of a menace of himself for yours and your daughter's sake. That's so creepy.

I guess it's good you noticed the bullet holes and called the police back. If you hadn't, I wonder if they would have bothered to investigate. I am glad it doesn't appear anyone was hurt. We get a lot of guns going off in our area this time of year. I always hope no one gets hurt. Even just shooting in the air is dangerous.

I hope you have a Happy New Year, Mary!

Shooting in the air is dangerous. Those bullets have to come down somewhere.

  23. Bullet holes?? Dear Lord, Mary. Creepy old guys, too? You sure gave him a piece of your mind.

Just stopping by to say Happy New Year. I know I'm late. Not been feeling great, is all. May 2023 be a better one than 2022. We gotta keep the faith, right?
