Apartment Life #302

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 25 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 25 years here in a weekly blog post.

I was outside with Falcor and spotted the police across the street.

So I texted my daughter and asked to to snap a picture from my bedroom window since my phone doesn't take good photos at night. lol She got the pictures right before they left. I have no idea what they were there for. But since I didn't see anyone if handcuffs, I'm guessing it wasn't anything serious.
----

First thing in the morning on my first walk with Falcor on Monday, I spotted this mattress in our alley on the sidewalk where I would have normally walked. But I didn't want to walk right by the guy laying on the mattress so I walked on the other side of the fence. Several people have moved out of my courtyard recently so I'm guessing the mattress was pulled out of the trash.

The very next day the homeless people moved the mattress a few feet away to the other side of the wall of my alley. I saw several people sleeping on it for a few days. Then it got moved down the street. I haven't seen a lot of homeless around my neighborhood lately because most of them moved a few streets away with drug dealer when he and his wife moved out. But there are still a few people around.
---

The apartment right across from me that had the fire 2 years ago is almost remodeled and I'm sure someone will be moving in soon. One other neighbor moved out 2 weeks ago and my elderly neighbor moved out after losing her court case against this place. Her car was towed away last year and she thought she would win some big money. She didn't pay her rent for 5 months thinking she was going to win against them but she lost in court this month and was evicted. She moved on Wednesday and when her family got here to help her move, there was a big argument. You have to turn up the volume.

Another neighbor moved out on Thursday so that's 5 new neighbors that I'll have soon. I can only hope they aren't crazy, trouble makers, drug dealers or loud. Oh the joy of apartment life. There are 5 vacant apartments in my courtyard now so I'll have to keep an eye out for the homeless breaking into the apartments.

The high this week was 63F/17C
The low this week was 39F/3C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

  1. It is never dull round your area. I don't think we see the police in our street more than once or twice a year - and less now that one of our neighbours has evicted her son.

    1. That sounds like a nice quiet neighborhood. I see them over here at least weekly.

  2. Those people in the video seem to have a somewhat impoverished vocabulary. It sounded like 50% of what they said consisted of "f*ck" and "b*tch".

Hope you get decent neighbors in those five apartments. I know how anxious the wait to find out can be.

    1. Yes that was pretty much all I could make out with the yelling too. Hopefully they are quiet people that move in.

  3. Yikes I hope the new neighbors aren't crazies. So that lady lost her case, huh?

  4. Two years to remodel after a fire? Those guys aren't winning any contract jobs.

    1. For the first year it just sat there boarded up.

  5. The guy on the mattress seems comfy.

  6. The frequent moving in and out of neighbors must be quite depressive.

  7. Hi, Mary!

Last time I was here, your screaming neighbor woman alerted police that a man in a nearby apartment had shot and killed her little dog when it wandered into his apartment. At least there were no apparent shootings or killings this past week, but the situation remains tense. It's a sad spectacle to see people sleeping outdoors on a mattress in winter, and with so many vacancies opening up near you, you have every reason to be apprehensive, fearing that transients will break into them or that rough and rowdy renters or drug dealers will move into those units. Let's hope that management screens applicants more carefully before accepting just anyone into the community.

I heard the "F" word so many times on that video I lost count. It would make a good drinking game.

Please take good care of yourself and my buddy Falcor, dear friend Mary. Don't forget to check out the Obliterated series on Netflix if you can. It's good for some laughs. I'll see you a few weeks from now!

    1. The daughter in the video was so mad I think that's the only word she could think of. Thankfully there were no gunshots this week. I am hoping for a quiet week but I doubt it.

  8. Five new neighbors is definitely going to be a crap shoot.

  9. it's amazing that so many people have found use of that mattress. Resources will be resources I guess. I remember thinking a lot about resources as a kid growing up in Minnesota and surviving the cold, I would literally create scenes with my Legos of how to to survive.

    1. It lasted out there until the rain came and then it was discarded.

So many things that can go wrong...I'm praying they don't. So the car lady got evicted? I can't muster any sympathy for her.

    1. I can't either. The funny thing is we are friends on Tiktok and she's been sending me videos since she moved out.

  12. “I texted my daughter” to take the photo, ROFLMAO! You two are a good team LOL. I couldn’t make out the argument, so who was arguing and over what? I did hear Falcor when he decided to put his two cents into the argument, 😄. Sounds like a mass exodus going on. Those signs management posted outside are having an adverse effect … people moving out rather than in.

    1. My daughter is always taking pictures for me especially at night when my tablet and phone won't take as good of pictures as her phone. The daughter was the one upset in the video over something. I really couldn't understand much other than F*ch and B*tch. She kept saying F*ck all of ya'll. I don't know what she was mad about.

  15. Well, you didn't have a mostly quiet week this week!

  16. I hope that you get good neighbors, Mary! When we moved a few years ago, a big reason was because of how bad our next door neighbor was.

    1. There are 16 apartments in my courtyard so there's always at least a few chances that some will be bad neighbors.

  18. I hope you get some decent, working neighbors that don't cause trouble or bring drugs into your area. That lady... at least her family came to help her move, but she didn't really get it, did she?

    1. Her family is just awful. It doesn't surprise me that I hardly ever saw that at her place.

  20. I hope your new neighbours are fairly civilised and not veteran trouble makers.

  21. Yeah, I'm wary these days when a neighbor moves out. I got lucky with one out of three, but now that the couple across the street separated and aren't fighting, I guess its two now. :)

Wow, that mattress is getting a whole new second life after being tossed. Does this count as recycling? ;)

  23. Fingers crossed for decent neighbors moving in! Then again, the crazies give you unlimited blog material, so maybe you'll get one or 2 out of the 5 to keep the stories coming LOL
