Apartment Life #347

This is a weekly blog post that I'm calling Apartment Hell  Life. I've mentioned a few times some of the crazy things that have gone on in and around my apartment complex and in my neighborhood in the past 25 years that I've lived here and people keep telling me I should write a book. But instead of a book, I've decided to share the crazy things that have happened in and around my apartment complex in the last 26 years here in a weekly blog post.
---

I have new neighbors on one side of my apartment. On day one they have been playing their music really loudly, having loud screaming matches at 1AM with their door open. They have been pounding on something in the bedroom which I can hear all night long because our bedrooms are just separated by a thin wall. I've had to wear foam earplugs at night just to get some sleep.

So a few of us neighbors got together and wrote emails to the apartment office complaining about the new neighbors. Hopefully they will get a warning or something because this is ridiculous. Anymore loud fights and I'll be calling the police.
---

A couple of weeks ago a large pitbull came out of the courtyard in the last building of my apartment complex. He was off leash and came right at Falcor. Thankfully he wasn't aggressive but Falcor is not friendly to large dogs and that can set off another dog to be aggressive. It was 5AM and I was standing near the entrance of that courtyard screaming "Who's f*cking off leash dog is that" At the top of my lungs after I picked Falcor up to keep him away from the other dog. No one came outside. But I was pretty sure the dog belonged to the guy upstairs. The dog ran off so I left.

A few days later the same thing happened and the dog ran upstairs and right into that upstairs apartment that I thought he belonged to. Then this week at 10PM I see Animal Control going to that upstairs apartment. I was across the street and watched as the Animal Control lady was taking pictures of a metal dog crate right next to the guys door. The dog was in it and barking his head off. There were two neighbors standing outside and they told me they called because the dog has been in the metal crate outside barking for a couple of days. It's been cold here so why is he keeping the dog outside in a cage?

The Animal Control lady ended up getting yelled at by the guy and he kept slamming his door on her. I didn't see what happened as I had to get Falcor back inside because it was cold out. But I haven't heard the dog barking at all or seen him so I think Animal Control took the dog. He sure wasn't taking care of it.

The high this week was 61F/16C
The low this week was 35F/1C

So that's it for this week's Apartment Hell  Life! Be sure to come back next week for more.

  1. If you have a dog you take care of it. I hope Animal Control DID take his dog.

    1. I think they did because I haven't seen it or heard it since.

  2. It's too bad you and the neighbors couldn't ask the guy with the pit bull to have it attack the new noisy people next door to you.

  3. Hi, Mary!

Things have really taken a turn since those carefree weeks last summer when I visited you and found peace and tranquility on your block. It's the very worst of luck to have people move in next to you that argue loudly in the wee hours, preventing you from getting a good night's sleep. If it keeps up, you and other neighbors should continue to press the apartment management to issue warnings or, if necessary, take action to evict.

A loose pitbull is another big concern. I shudder to think what would happen if a dog turned aggressive toward you and Falcor. It's disgraceful that the owner kept the dog trapped in a cage in the cold for an extended period. If you haven't heard it barking lately, it's likely the pooch has been taken away by animal control.

I hope you can put all this unpleasantness behind you and enjoy the upcoming holidays. Merry Christmas and happy new year, dear friend Mary!

  4. I hope the noisy neighbours are given strong warnings to behave themselves and that they pay heed.
I hope, too, that the poor dog has been taken into care.

    1. The office said they would give her a noise warning. I think Animal Control took the dog since I haven't seen or heard it since.

  6. Seriously, is there at least ONE normal person/family around there (except you/yours of course)? Every asshole gets replaced by another one...That poor dog.

    1. There are two ladies in my courtyard that are normal. Everyone else seems odd. I think Animal Control took the dog since I haven't seen it since.

  7. Isn't that awful. I'm so sorry.
My son's in-laws in B.C. have a neighbour with huskies who jump the fence. They have a little terrier who gets terrorized. Crazy people.

  12. I'm sorry your new neighbors are being so loud and inconsiderate. And I feel bad for that pit bull. Dogs don't deserve crap owners like that.

  13. Your new neighbors sound like an episode of "Fear Your Neighbor". Not the type that will settle down, even with management intervention. Glad that dog was rescued from that uncaring dog owner.

  14. I hope something can be done about the disruptive neighbours. They sound like a right pain in the arse. Hopefully Animal Control took the dog away. Obviously they weren't taking proper care of it. I'm glad Falcor wasn't hurt.

    1. Thank you. Hopefully the dog will get a better owner. I hope the noise complaint will be enough to keep the neighbor from being so loud.

  15. I hope I never have to live in an apartment building again. I grew up in a New York City housing project and can identify with some of this-except for the aggressive dog because dogs weren’t allowed back then. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com

    1. There are soooo many dogs around here. There are 6 apartment complexes on my street and they all allow dogs so there are a lot of them. So many people around here let their dogs offleash and it drives me crazy.

  16. We don't have any pets now. But the ones we've had over the years have been part of the family. I can't imagine putting a dog in a cage and just... leaving it out. Why have a dog at all? Back in the early 80s we lived on a street full of 4 plex apartments. The people directly across from us had a big english sheepdog they let out every morning at 5 and the damn thing would run all over the neighborhood barking and waking everyone up. Pissed me off. LOL
